Have you ever been in love with another?

My SUV - I'm in love with my new (but used) SUV!

I'm in love with another and my husband isn't even jealous! Now, before you get the wrong idea, it isn't a man, but a machine. LOL To be more specific a vehicle! For those of you that have seen my discussion a few weeks ago about having to buy a used vehicle, my husband and I finally got one tonight! OMG, I'm totally in love with it! My husband and I were able to sell his old truck and my broken down Ford to get the money. We also sold his baby (his motorcycle) that he's had for a few years now. I hated to see it go, but we needed to buy something reliable for the family to get around in. For the past week or so, we've had to rely on a friend of the family so that my husband could get to and from work and to the grocery store once or twice as well. Before that my husband was driving his old truck the way it was. I even took it up once to the bank. That was fun, especially when it started overheating and I didn't even make it there. Anyway, the past few days have been really stressful on us. I've been busy looking at vehicles for sale online. We found a few, but some of them were through dealers and they wouldn't take the amount we had in full. To make matters worse, just when we thought we found a vehicle we liked though a private party, they got weird and starting giving us all these conditions. My husband was really discouraged, but I was determined to find something immediately so that he wouldn't have to rely on getting a ride anymore. I found another that I liked, again through a private seller. The only problem was they were asking $300 more than what we had. When my husband saw the amount they were asking he got discouraged again, but then I pointed out these three little letters O-B-O. I ended up calling the seller but had to leave a message. Long story short, my husband ended up getting it! And the best part is it's a Nissan. Not just a Nissan though, but a 2000 Pathfinder! OMG, I drove it around after the previous owner and his dad had delivered it to us, and I have to say that I am in love! So, have you ever been in love with another that wasn't your spouse/significant other? How did they feel about it? Were they jealous or did they not care at all?

Congratulations! Great you were able to find a car you loved. Sure was nice of your friend to take your husband to and from work and the grocery store as needed. Enjoy that new car. I was smitten over a Camaro I bought in 2001. It was new and a real hotrod. Loved it and the best thing about it, two of our kids couldn't drive a stick shift..lol It was all mine. My husband can drive a stick but he had no interest in driving the car. Was also totally excited when we had our grandkids. I was beyond smitten with all of them. They are all healthy and darling. I am a lucky lady.

I kept the car for about 7 years and traded it for an suv. Love this suv and might not buy another passenger car in my lifetime unless I get too old to lift my leg to get into an suv...lol I would not sell the Camaro to a kid. Had too much power and I was so concerned a youngster would buy it and have a potential problem. So I traded it and lost money but I could live with myself.

Trade-ins suck. The customer always looses out. But at least you were doing what you thought was best! So, what kind of SUV do you have?

Thanks Carol. I agree, it sure was nice of him. He's a great guy to help out as much as he did. My husband and I are very lucky to know someone like him. Wow, so you got the car to yourself, huh? Aren't you lucky! I don't know how to drive a stick. At least the Pathfinder is an automatic, or else I'd have to force myself to learn as I couldn't imagine not ever driving it! You sound like you are very blessed. Happy mylotting!

Congratulations for getting a brand new car that you love, it's a beauty! My love affair began about a year ago when I got my new laptop and, although we didn’t hit it off immediately due to a few issues that we had to work through called Vista, we eventually fell in love and we spend many hours together every single day. We meet here at MyLot and that is where our rendezvous usually start. My husband suspects something is going on but has not caught on yet...No doubt he will and I will have to make a choice...Oh, dear what is a girl to do?

Thanks Paula. It's hardly new. It's 9 years old! LOL But it is new to my family and I. And best of all it looks new, even if it is not. And it drives just as good as it looks, if not better. I couldn't ask for a better car. I just wish my husband didn't have to use it for work! I want it for myself! LOL Wow, a mylot love affair? It sounds intriguing! I'm no good in the affair department. The last time I mentioned one my parents got divorced! LOL Good luck, whatever you decide. Happy mylotting!

LMAO! I wasn't sure if you were talking about your laptop. That was the first impression I got as I was reading your response. But when I read this sentence "We meet here at MyLot and that is where our rendezvous usually start" it threw me for a loop! LOL I guess I should have went with that instead of thinking what I thought. It's also what I get for responding while I'm half asleep! LOL Sorry about that Paula! And here I thought maybe there was some sort of secret naughty side to you! LOL Happy mylotting!

I just realized how my response came across! It's not a man I'm in love with, it's my laptop I was referrring to! I was trying to be humourous but didn't quite pull it off! Oh dear...If my husband was to read this he may not see the funny side at all! Truth is I'm in love with my laptop!

Yes I can relate...mine was a car as well. I had been thinking about another car...the one I was driving would stall every now and then when I stopped. The first time it happened I opened the hood and looked and found a loose connection. I wriggled it and the car started. From then on, every once in a while I would have to jump out of the car and wriggle the wire...lol. I was driving to work one day and noticed this very snazzy looking sports job in the dealers lot. I called in on the way home and the combination of sunroof, mag wheels, stripes and pop-up headlights got me in and I bought it. It was a Nissan (lol) EXA turbo and very fast and a dream to drive. Another car I loved was a Range Rover my partner and I bought. I did a 13 hour drive from Sydney to Brisbane, stopping once to go to the bank and once for coffee. When I arrived home I climbed out and felt great, no stiffness, not tired. That car was so comfy and easy to drive.

Your old car sounded like fun. LOL When it comes to cars I like to be able to just hop in and drive. Wiggling wires to make it work or having to pull over to let it cool off so I can add water to it is not my idea of fun. And having either of the kids with me only makes it harder when something goes wrong. My husband is glad that everything happened the way it did. Because it forced us to sell what we had and get another vehicle. Happy mylotting! PS that sounds like quite a trip you had. Having something comfy and easy to drive makes all the difference in the world, I'm sure.

I read your earlier thread. You got a Pathfinder for $4000!?!?!? That is a steal! Even for a second hand, we would have to fork out at least ten times that amount! Maybe even more! That is one sweet ride! Wow!

Thanks ahgong! No, it actually cost a little more. $5500, to be exact. Really? Even with it being 9 years old? OBO means Or Best Offer. Happy mylotting!

Hey sacmom. Congrats btw on your car purchase, yes I definitely know how exciting that can be. Nothing quite like getting the car of your dreams and "owning" it. Have I ever been in love with something other than my husband? Well, I don't think so though if you were to ask him he'd say the gym!!! Seriously , when we were first married he was sooo jealous of the amount of time I would spend working out in the gym. He knew beforehand before we got married that I liked to work out and take care of my body. As I've told him many times, you've got to work at your body if you want to maintain it!! What made it even more insufferable was when my mother in law told him not to worry that once I have a baby, I won't have any time for that gym nonsense! OMG I felt like I was going to shoot somebody when I heard that!! :(But yeah it was just ridiculous how much grief I got over going to the gym? Here was me working out at the gym 5x/week and there he was hanging out with his brother 2 nights a week at the pub?

Hi there! First of all congratulations with your new car. Im glad that you fell inlove with it and not a man LOL! Anyway your husband is a great man because she understands you. In some relationships, partners tend to get jealous if there partner where addicted in some things.

My Cat..my husband said I treat it like a baby..lol But I know what you mean..My mom had a Lincoln and it was a smooth drive I loved it..and drove it all over New Mexico when I was visiting..Drove like a dream..but money got tight and my dad made my mom sell her car..and only have one his..which wasn't much.. I was so mad she sold her car..for less then it was worth even I guess when in need of money people do drastic things to sell stuff faster. Well I am glad you finally got you another vehicle and hope it is as reliable as it is a dream to drive..

Thanks mtdew. Me too! That's true, though it doesn't always work. Because if it is being sold for too low of a price people get suspicious as to why it is so cheap. LOL Sometimes it another reason entirely. I remember when my mom sold the house I grew up in for cheap. It wasn't because she was in need of the money, but rather because she just wanted to get away from the memories that were there. She later regretted it though. Because the memories followed her wherever she went... Happy mylotting!

I don't think so. I might have but don't remember it right now. that's nice you got something you need. and yes some things have to be sacrificed. it's ok though when the economy recovers completely you will be able to get some of these things back.

lol =D I think most guys tend to be treating their vehicles, be it motorbike, or cars, as their 2nd wife.. hehe ^_^ Because they have spent alot of money on them, as well as alot of time together with it.. lol =D But in your case, this 'new' vehicle seems to be your 2nd hubby instead, and your hubby has lost his 2nd wife.. lol =D I have not experience anything like this before, except for my last gf, whom had a pet, and it's natural she showered more love on it, as both of them are living together, while not me.. haha =D It's pointless to be jealous about such things.. hehe

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your new car! I had to sit here and think about if my husband has been jealous of anything else like that before. I couldn't think of anything. The only thing that I could think of was our boys. He became jealous of the time and love that I lavished (and still do) on our boys. It's taken me awhile to figure out how to spread the love equally. LOL

Hmm.. I think it's different when you're inlove with a material thing than how you'd be in love with someone else. You see, the material thing cannot 'posses' you but a person can truly steal your heart away. There will be jealousy, but I guess he doesn't see the point of expressing it because it's not really something one should dwell on. How sure are you he's no in love with that car as well? And besides, both of you bought it, so I guess he likes knowing you approved of what you guys bought.

Hi Laydee. I'm fully aware of that. If you noticed I never said whether or not my husband is in love with it. But just for the record, he love it too! By the way, you never answered my question. Have you ever been in love with another? And if so, who (or what) was it? Happy mylotting!

I'm so glad to hear that you got a good vehicle! It's almost impossible these days to get around without a car, as everything is so far apart. When I was a girl, everything we needed was within walking distance but that was in the 50's and now we have shopping malls and centers, all spread out, and neighborhood houses are built in huge spaces miles in diameter with no facilities within walking distance. It's even better when you love your car, isn't it? Congratulations!

Thanks dragon! It's even harder since I live out in the country. I can't even catch the city bus here! And it is too dangerous to ride a bike. Maybe I should have just gotten a horse instead. LOL But then where would my husband put his tools that he needs for work? He's got a ton. LOL Yep, my family and I definitely needed a car to get around in. I never expected it to be an SUV though! I couldn't be happier! Happy mylotting!
