Hi Friends, Is the world is going to end in 2012 according to mayan calendar????? Now a days Every news channel is showing every week that the world is going to end in 2012 according maya calender. What is maya culture. When did it happen. Is it really true that all of us will die in 2012? I think all of these are rubbish. What's your view on this issue.

I like to think that there is going to be a huge awakening of the people in 2012. I think a major change is on the horizon and the world as we know it is going to end. I do not however think it is not going to exist at all. I have been witnessing people in my own life "waking up" a little bit more over the last year. I do not know much about the Mayan calander but I have heard some and also think that is rubbish!

This is true that the world will end as we know it not that it is not going to be anymore just hype to freak people out much as the 1989 one that was hyped on by the Jehovah witness. Then in 1999 when the world was ending be cause of it becoming 2000 all hype but people fell for it and went and stormed the stores stocking up and trying to make things for the dreaded day to help them survive but survive we did. I think there will be a change but not the end to the world in a whole. Maybe to how we live like crime, hate, violence and starvation hopefully. I think we all will learn that family and helping one another might actually become known again where we have gotten away from it so much and have made our world what it is today. I think we might begin to take back our world and make it a good place to live once more.

Since the date 2012 is from the Mayan Calendar, and is how it got it's start as the whole end of the world thing, why do you think that is rubbish, but you still think it'll be some extra special year?

Good question...perhaps we should look to the Mayans for the answer? A couple of weeks ago, Yahoo! ran an article concerning this with the input of a real Mayan descendant, with a great knowledge of Mayan history and culture. According to the Mayans, 2012 is ONLY the end of a time period. No such doomsday is even hinted according to the Mayan calendar. The doomsday philosophy came to birth when us westerners got wind of this calendar, which is amazingly accurate. When it ends in 2012, of course the nominal question is this: what happens next? Popular western belief of a coming doomsday seemed to fit this storyline pretty well, so it was merged into the ending of the Mayan calendar as THE result of the ending of this time period, when, in fact, no such message comes from the Mayans themselves. Just another story to talk about and spread panic and paranoia. I encourage you not to get sucked into worrying about this...concentrate instead on things that matter...

Myth, hype, misinterpretation, sensationalism and horridly bad science. The Mayan calender doesn't end, it rolls over, like ours do every year, there is no "planet x" as such a planet's existence defies all laws of physics and planetary motion, we cross the galactic plane something like every 25 million years, and did so about 7 million years ago, there is no indication that solar activity in 2012 is going to be any worse than any other peak solar year, the earthc crust cannot "flip" or slide down (absolutely impossible) and our magnetic field changes gradualy and has done so several times while humans were on earth (and we're all still here). I think that pertty much covers most of the current 2012 myths.

yes my friend you are right. It is only media hype. All news channel are 24*7, they need some thing to show for whole day. There is no indication that solar activity in 2012 is going to be any worse.

Like you said. Rubbish. Every dozen years, there is some group that pops up claiming the world is going to end. It happened in the 90s, the 70s, the 60s, the 40s, all the way back to 1920, and every few years before. There is always some group somewhere claiming they know when the world is going to end. This specific one is even more lame than normal. Why? Because the Mayan Calendar doesn't even say the world is going to end. People invented that part. All the Mayan Calendar does, is recycle. The Mayan Calendar has a specific way of counting days. In 2012, the way of counting will reach the highest number it can reach. What happens then? Well... in most numeric counting, what happens when you reach the highest number? It starts over. Think of the distance-meter (odometer) on a car. If the mileage (kilometers) meter only has 5 digits, like old cars used to, what happens when it reaches 99,999 (km) miles? It goes back to 00,000. The car doesn't stop driving simply because the distance-meter reached the last number. It just starts over. If the Mayan civilization was still around today, and they still used the Mayan Calendar, what would happen if the Calendar reached the last number? It would just start over. They'd be at year 0 in 2013. That's it. So, it does not even say the world will end. It just said the counting system will start over. It's just a group running around getting in the papers.

hmmm.., you are right my friend. The earth will not end in 2012. But there is a other way of thinking, the way we use the resource of earth, and global warming can affect the earth, sooner or later it will happen. If we use as resource as much we really need that help us.

Actually that is a myth too. The idea that human action could possibly cause the world to over heat and kill everyone, is crazy talk. The science behind it is faulty and misleading. CO2, or Carbon Dioxide, does not drive temperature change. Never has in the past, isn't now, and won't be in the future. Modern examinations of CO2 levels in the past and today, show that CO2 levels *FOLLOW* temperature change. In history, temps have been much higher, and much lower, than they are today. Further, CO2 levels have been both lower and higher than they are today. The temperature of the Earth naturally increases and decreases over time through changes in both our Sun's out put of energy, and our distance from it. So why has it been getting warmer? Well it hasn't. The Earth has actually been getting cooler the last few years, even though CO2 levels have still increased. But over the long term, the temperature has gone up, but not because of humans, but because the last ice age just ended.

Hello abhishek. I don't believe it is true because it does not have any sign that our planet will vanish or what, but there is one thing that is foremost, which is, we humans should take better care of our earth without polluting it to worsen it. It is high time we did something to make our planet a better one. Otherwise, it is hard to say what will happen to our earth without our caring for it.

I don't believe it. The Mayans did from what I understand predict the future and had calendars that go all the way up until 2012 and then just stop. Some people have assumed that that means that the world will end simply because the calendar ends then. Guess we won't know until 2012.

I'll take your word on this. My knowledge on the topic is very limited and I haven't taken the time to look it up. Not even sure where I first heard about this. Bottom line is....I do not believe it.

It's just like the other guy here said, the calender doesn't end, you just got to flip it to the next page. The Mayans actually said the world will end about 14 trillion years into the future, which is far further ahead the scientists think the sun will live for.

I've heard a lot about the year 2012, well we have the Olympics coming up in London, that's something to look forward to I suppose! There have been end of world predictions for many years and I think that Nostradamus himself mentioned something about this year. I'm thinking that when we eventually arrive at the year 2012 everything will continue on as normal. We will continue to pay our bills! We will continue to order pizzas and visit KFC restaurants and watch bugs bunny, something I like to do from time to time!. On a realistic note though there's always the constant threat of an asteroid hitting the Earth and we don't as yet have the technology to destroy an incoming asteroid, god help us all! Andrew

Hi abhishek. Well, of course all of this are rubbish. We can even tell what will happens in the next seconds. All of this is not under our authorization. Sometime people always want to take charge everything. They always acts like they know everything in this world. They tries to rule the world but in the end they can't even rule themselves.

Of course, it is all hype and nothing else. These things are hyped up by the eyeball hungry News channels. But, what I feel is that probably, something of a BIG disaster may happen., maybe something like the Tsunami, Floods, Drought, Earthquake., which will shake the foundations of the Humanity but NOT wiping out the entire civilization. But, on a lighter note, I hope 2012 will disrupt the Banking records and my Credit Card EMI will show NIL Balance!!!!!

I think we couldn't predict the future! It was actually on the YEAR 2000, that our world would end but it was just a FALLACY. Many bad news at that time and it's not a fact. So until now, I don't believe that the world is going to end. Only the people would end in this world but the world wont.lol. Just be prepared at all times. God only knows of what would happen to this world. I haven't heard yet about this 'MAYAN' Calendar.

I loooong ago wanted to awnser that question. Yes, the mayans predicted it to the 22 of december in 2012. And some scientist are founding changes in the space. But let me get my point clearly, THE MYTH/LEGEND SAID: "THE WORLD IS GOING TO CHANGE AS WE NOW IT" it never said that it was going to end. Why people keep on thinking and seeng a Final Day when they only said that the world was going to change dramaticaly??? Please, read the terms of reference for one time.

Honestly, we don't know what's going to happen on Dec. 22, 2012. We will just have to wait and see if the world ends, or what not. I don't think the world will end, I think someone already explained that because the Mayan Calender stops on that date, that it doesn't end, it just starts all over again. There is supposely Scientific proof that what is going to happen on this date has happened before. Supposely the Earth didn't rotate the way it does now at one point in time. On this date, the Earth will start rotating the other way, it's original way. Depending on how fast it does it, will determine what will happen. I joke with my oldest that, we could have snow in July and heat waves in December. Even if the world does end on this date, so what, it's not like we can stop it from happening. Just like a lot of Nature's events, we are not in control of it. So, people needs to stop focusing on this date and just focus on today.

It certainly seems that this may be true according to the evidence surrounding the theory!

what kind of evidence? The Mayan calender is the only thing, and it doesn't end in 2012, it just goes onto the next chunk. It's like flipping a page to the next month on a regular calender.

Many times during my life I have heard such predictions and always found them wrong. And even if it is right how are you going to change your life? If there are changes you want to make, make them now. This is the only time in life you are guaranteed. The past is done and the future may or may not come. Live in the Now. Blessings

I have never read the Mayan calendar [ I wish I had] so I don't really know what is there. But now we are in 2009 so 2012 is only 3 years away right? so we can see changes happening at a very fast pace and yes the world we know today may end, but it won't be the end of the world, that would take a long time to happen unless there is an unforseen catastrophy that our scientist [ in their great wisdom and study] did not detect in time well we will never know do we?

People have been predicting the end of the world for a very long time. Someday someone will be right, but I think it will be more of a lottery thing than them actually knowing something the rest of us don't. The problem is that even though this might spur some people to become better people, when it doesn't happen they often just go back to the way they were only more skeptical.

I agree with you. People can't know what will happen in the future, but they can get some clues from the present situation, and then have some tendency or tend about the development of the earth.
