Not everyone that has gone to jail or is in jail are bad. Some of the people have made small mistakes that have got them in trouble and thus locked up, and then there are some who were falsely accused and are in jail for a crime they did not commit. I think that to a certain extent Jail can make you more corrupt and a worse person then you were outside of jail. I also think that because of this, there is also a chance of boredom and that is why some start fights. Those who start fights and kill, I am not sure about but I feel that their must also be something that they have done to cause them to be in the jail, so I would say these are the truly bad people.

Ah I did not notice you also mentioned that. I apologize. As for it being a need, I can only say that I have a religious answer to that question, lol.

I do believe there are some innocent people in jail - but they are few and far between. I think some inmates try to lay low and do their time. I believe that prison is a very dangerous place. You have people who are not new to or adverse to committing crimes - serious crimes. People who place no value on life. When you put those types of personalities in a confined space unpleasant outcomes are bound to happen. I just think prisoners have too many luxuries and don't really pay their debt to society. But I guess that is a whole other topic.

I agree with you Wlee. Jail is a dangerous place but you can also consider this a place where people are given the chance to contemplate and discern about their lives and how to become good and better person or maintain being bad. They are in jail but to some extent they are enjoying lots of privileges like being free from debts, accountabilities and responsibilities outside.

Hi there Acie! Not really. I have been to a city jail twice and they were just like ordinary people although there are some scary ones by the entrance begging for money but once inside, it wasn't that scary anymore. I guess it varies. I've only been on one so I can't say for the others.

Nope I don't think so, these people in jails in real life are still seeking freedom so logically these people will stay away from troubles as much as possible if they still want to get freed but ofcourse there will be some isolated cases where fights between factions will not be avoided.

Jail is not that bad, no prison on the other hand is awful.

now prison on the other hand I mean. Jail aint that bad, lots of good people who made mistakes go there, but prison is not full of good people, anyone who is there was involved in some way in something, maybe just being around the wrong people at the wrong time.

Every jail is different. In some jails there is hardly no fights and no one gets harassed because they don't want any trouble. In some other jails there are always fights, rapes, and corruption. There are jails that are in between where they are sometimes fights but just not all the time. If the jail is over crowded then the chances of violence occurring increases. But with a jail with a low population then there is a lower chance of violence. Fights in jail can always happen if you press someone's berserk button.

No, I don't think jail is really as scary as the way it is portrayed on the television. My father worked in a federal prison when he was alive and for the most part he said it wasn't too bad. When he worked in one of the high security prisons, he said that he did one time have a scalpel pulled on him by a prisoner in the operating room (he was a physician's assistant). Then once he moved to Lexington, he said that it wasn't that bad. However, that one experience was the only one that he ever had of violence while he was working in the prison.

I think that they are just people who have made some bad choices. Things that have happend in their past, who they were surrounded by contributed to how they came to be fellons, yes they have done some terrible and unforgivable things, but i think that they do feel some regret. I have never been to jail but alot of friends i trusted and also family of mine have gone to jail, i feel sorry for the people they have wronged. What you see in movies with all the violence in the prisons i can't really say, but im gonna say yes to all the movies that are documented and based around going to prison!...sorry im not much help.

I don't think so. They are people like us. they have minds to know what is right and wrong. And I heard that most of them their make new friends and consider it as a family. they try to share their part of the story of life. I do not think everyone in their are bad people. maybe they made mistake bad they have their own reasons of doing that thing which most of us do not understand.

i think that jail is a school for criminals, i dont say that they are all guilty but 90% are, and when they come out they will know much more how to do crimes and probably will commit several of them until they are caught again

I think convicts fight for power and to survive inside the jail. You'll find mix of people there. Some did really bad, some are there for petty crimes and some are innocents just framed up or just poor to bail out. It's not the worst place for me. A lot of offenders do convert and are really remorseful and they become good. It's a nice place actually for those who deserve to be there so they'd understand what it means to be good.

Perhaps they are a menace. Perhaps they often fight and torture other prisoners, the same situation described in the movie. Perhaps I watched a lot of movies about violence when I was child, I felt scared. I think jail is not a good place. In fact there are no so much violence in society. I consider them as a entertainment when I watch movies now.

Well those behind the bars are a rowdy lot no doubt about that but I don’t think they are always fighting amongst themselves and after each others blood all the time. There is some sort of discipline to be followed and then many are set free on parole due to good behaviour or have their sentences reduced. In India, many prisoners are also released on some special occasions because of their repentance and good conduct…so that’s an example for the other prisoners to follow. Also many jails these days offer courses in vocational training so that the inmates can go back to mainstream after their release…these vocational trainings I believe has a positive impact on the minds of the prisoners to temper their propensity towards crime. So all in all, not everybody is fighting though there will always be bullies everywhere who’ll instigate people and take advantage of the situation.

I never been or visited jails, so I'm not sure, but I don't believe that everyone in jail are bad people. I used to watch prisoners documentary about their life inside and riots normally happen because of the gangs/brotherhood inside. I don't think riots/fights happen often, because all the prison guards are aware of this and they try to keep each groups of the gangs away from each other except when they are out of their cell, I think!

Well, I have never been in prison so I can only imagine what it must be like. I've seen a lot of movies that show what it might be like in prison but I'm thinking that the majority of them are fiction. The best prison move that I've seen is 'The Shawshank Redemption', that was a terrific movie. All said and done I don't think that being cooped up in prison would be a pleasant experience. I'm sure that there's a rule there that only the strong survive. You have to be strong mentally and learn to adapt to this hostile environment. Once you have been in prison for so many years I guess you start to become institutionalised! You then may find it very hard to adapt to society once you are out of prison. I would not want to end up in prison as my life would truly be over, I would not be able to survive. Andrew

I don't think people in jails always fight and they are having a difficult part of their life. Indian movies show jail as a hard place to stay. But, I have seen in Engilsh movies that jails in western countries are very well maintained. They have television and internet connection in rooms. You live in jail for free and government pays for all your expenses. So, I thinik life in jail is fine even though I don't prefer it.

No they don't always fight there. I know, cause i've been there...kiddin! i've never been to jail. I think they just exaggerated it in movies, that there is always a fight there. Here in our country the jails are overcrowded that it is impossible to start a fight and jails abroad have strict punishment to prisoners who gets into fight.

I don't think they always fight because I have visited jail for our study and it turns out that they are keeping their self to be good. I think they are much better in jail because they can't make troubles compare outside.
