OK so this may not carry across international waters but I am curious. Here in the UK we have a spread called Marmite which is made from yeast extract (similar to vegemite). Its a very dark sticky spread. I have to say its the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. But my best friend adores it and eats it all the time. So do you love it or hate it?

I absolutely love Marmite, always have and always will, it's delicious on hot buttered toast, devine added to a cheese (or banana) sandwich and it is pretty cool as a cooking ingredient too. They recently released MXO, which is matured longer and has a lot more taste to it. I won a jar of it!

There must be a marmite gene. If you've not got the gene, you can't stand the stuff..

well actually marmite is one of the things from my childhood that i miss very much. i used to love eating toasted bread with butter and marmite. but now here in the Philippines we dont have marmite here. and in my family im the only one who loves it. they are all disgusted with it too. too bad though.

Hi carmelbg, I'm with you on this one, it really is disgusting and it is totally amazing how many ex pats here are desperate for it and miss it and are totally suprised that I don't miss it too, in fact one of the supermarkets in town has now started stocking it for these foreigners who feel that they would have to move back to the UK without their marmite fix.
