Be watchful when eating out...

I don't know why some people who work in the Food & Beverage outlet would do something bad to somebody's food if the person is complaining about the food, maybe because of wrong order or too salty or whatever the reason is. I heard mostly from those working in the kitchen, some of them would not hesitate to spit on that food or mess with it before they serve it 'nicely' back to the customer who complains. Why can't they just take it professionally??!! I don't mean all of them though, but it's happening... even in the posh restaurants. There was one time when one of my friends specifically mentioned not to put any chili on his fried rice to the waiter, but the order came otherwise. So, he was a bit annoyed and asked for a new one. However, my other friends and I told the waiter that we would still pay for it because we loved spicy food and we wouldn't want to waste it. Once his food has arrived, my friend who was so hungry by then happily eats his fried rice, but somehow something just caught my eyes!! It was a strand of hair!!! The four of us examined the food further and to our disgusts, there was not only one, but the whole rice was mixed with hair!!! They were cut very, very short. We didn't make any official complain to the respective health and food department because we knew the owner, she's a friend but turned out that she didn't take our complains seriously. So, what we did we have boycotted the eating place and told everyone in the building not to eat at the disgusting place ever!!! Anyway, if you are eating out and not satisfied with your food, do you usually ask for a 'new' order?? Hubby and I seldom do that instead we would simply cancel the order because of the reasons above unless they have an opened kitchen where everybody can see what they are doing. Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks in advance!

Eww, that is so gross!! Disgusting. It's really sad that they take out their frustration on food that they serve the customer. After all, the customer does pay for the food. To be quite honest, I prefer open kitchens myself. Luckily, in my years of dining out, I have never had an experience where I have had to ask for a 'new' order. But reading your discussion details, I will be moving to another food joint for sure.LOL

You're right. Even though how bad the complain is, still the one who is paying their 'salary' is the customer. They should take it as something to improve their services, but not as a pay back time to the customer. Actually, there were few times that my hubby and I encountered about not satisfied with our food. Sometimes, when it has no taste, we ask for the salt instead of making a new order or we clearly stated that we were not going to pay for it. Hey, make sure you move to those with opened kitchens.

That’s awful! Friend or no friend I would have reported the place. I have not sent food back before and I admit that it does cross my mind to be nice to the wait staff in case the kitchen staff decide to do something nasty to my meal. It’s a shame that’s the staff’s attitude but I’ve heard of many incidents where food has been tampered with because the customer was not liked. I tend to go for open kitchen places but it is not always possible so I am nice to the staff and don’t think about what they may be doing to the food!

Ha, yes, because of only one complain, if customer goes to the same restaurant again, the staff will notice him and does something nasty to his or her food. Not everybody will do it, but it happens. I heard about it before and there was a case that I knew of about the General Manager in the hotel. He was not likable, but he seldom treated the kitchen staff badly when he went to dine at the restaurant, still they 'played' with his food. Maybe because they felt they were powerful than him after seeing him eating their stupid 'creations'. Well, just be nice and polite...

I heard about this incidences too. That is the reason I normally advised my husband not to complain. We will complain when we are leaving just to inform them so that they did not repeat the mistakes in the future for their own good. My brother had a friend who has worked part time in a restaurant. He told my brother that he had spit on the food and serve to the 'complaint' customer. This is really unprofessional...human has its weakness of 'revenge' attitude! Therefore, it is advisable not to revisit the same restaurant if you had complaint about it, avoid being '[i]poisoned[/i'] unhealthily.

See, there are quite a few of them who would brag that they have spit or do something nasty to the customer's food. Besides canceling the order, I also think that it's best to complain only when we are leaving. In that way, we would not give them a chance to mess with our food, and you are right, try to avoid eating at the same place in future especially when the 'culprit' is still around. Take care!

that is really disgusting!! you could have let them know you will never eat there again because of that. and one thing i could not understand was you are even a friend of the owner maybe by being a regular customer there. the owner should have treated you as important loyal customers but not! you did the right decision not to eat there again and even announce to everybody on that place haha! screw the owner! so far, i haven't experience such thing yet..but surely i would be very very upset. i can't really understand too why people take revenge on food. they don't even think it may happen to them when they too eat in another restaurants with their family...hhhmmm! keep cool my friend and have a nice day (or sweet night)

When you mentioned that it may happen to them, yes, it's very true! Don't they deserve it, but the one who has to bear the expenses are their family, the innocence. Seriously, I don't think it is a proper way to handle this kind of things. I think it's common when somebody is angry, he or she can say whatever they want to do with that food, but shouldn't really do it. That shows how their mentalities are. In the incident above, the owner was not around, so, my friend did try to contact her cell phone. She said she would see into it, but when she got back, I think she couldn't think straight because the cook and the person-in-charge at that time were her relatives. We actually tried to capture a pic of that food as a prove using our cell phones, but it was blurry and there was no way one could see those hairs. And yea, we did announce that we would never eat there again as we walked passed by them!! They just gave us those faces pretended not to know anything. Well, 'some' relatives who ruined her business!!! Anyway, don't worry. I'm cool.

Ugh! I bet I haven't received some of the notifications as well!! Anyway, you were right, Lucky, but she should be strict enough as they have taken advantage on her and if she cared about her customers' well being and the cleanliness of the place, she should take the matter seriously. Well, this incident actually happened some time ago and she did hire new staff. A few months after that, they have moved to another place or state if I am not mistaken. They have many businesses, so, I think that's why they did not care so much about it.

didn't receive notification on this i felt sorry to the owner then but i hope having less customers soon will get those cooks/crooks fired lol i'm not used to have grudges with people but i hate those endangering one's health especially through food. you could have come stomach problem if you have continued eating it..i mean you friend. there are really many things that we don't know behind the kitchen but this mostly happen on small or family restaurants as they have nothing to lose.

Hello friend.. This is happening every where in the world.People have gone from bad to worse,no sincerity at all. They just work for money. I had faced something like this......I went to eat a fried noodles to a place I knew well.and that day there was a new guy as a supervisor or manger, and as he came to me,and he is new I ask the guy to add little more chillies in my noodles than they normally put. This guy went in and after sometime my order was placed infront of me and when I tasted it,it seems that there was no chilies at all so I asked the guy what had happened to the chilies. So this guy looked at my face and took it back and came back with it after few minutes......so I took a mouth full...It was like eating fire it was so hot immediately tears came from my eyes and my whole mouth and lips started burning, that guy put so much chilies and the whole night I was turning around like a mad goat.......after that incident I stopped going there...till that guy leaves...

Hi! Yes, I agree. It's happening every where in the world. Even those who went for proper training will abuse other people's trust in them who pay for the food and not eat for free to handle and serve their food. Poor you, you mean that you still ate up all the fried noodles?? You should have left the place without paying it. Is the guy still working there?? It was their fault and yet they took it out on you. Like what happened to my friend.

I guess the more you write, the more I can understand the incident, and the more you write, the more you will earn he he... So, just keep on writing no matter how long your post is because if it has quality it will surely boost up your earnings. Anyway, the guy left for only a few days of work?? Most probably, other customers have been complaining about him as well. Do you still go to the restaurant, then??

Hi, Minnie! It's always smart on being polite. I remember one of the staff at one of my past employment at a 5*hotel. She used to dine at the hotel coffee house, and she was so rude and 'always' complaining. She's too demanding and one difficult customer even to her own colleagues, the coffee house's staff. So, you could imagine what they did to her food every time she went and having her meals there!!

I do not enjoy eating out. I have seen so many sickening things, it turns me off. I have found bugs, worms, and hair in my food. I have seen them pick up food off the floor or counter, and put it back to serve. I have seen them handle food with their hands, with cuts, and answer the phone and back to the food. Yuk, I don't enjoy it at all. But,this doesn't bother my husbaned. He loves to eat anywhere. I am a bit more fussy.

That's good for you, Margie. Despite all this, I still enjoy eating out especially with my hubby and family, but of course, once there is something wrong with the order or food, we would just cancel it and no more new order. We are paying for the food and services, but too bad, some people just take it lightly and misuse their positions in this industry. They are in control of our food and they just do whatever they like. So bad. That is so gross, handling food with cuts... ewww!!

Yes, I often meet this situation that we are eating out and not satisfied with my food. Often i would not ask for a new order. But i will not have a dinner there again..So I often choose a place that suit to me and make familiar with their manager and employee..Then i will become a frequente customer and they also treat me very well. cook also clear what kind of food or order that we would like to.... So the food and Beverage alway to our taste...

Hi, Shengixu! Yes, there are some places where the people are nicer, when you make friends with the Captain or Manager, they will treat you very well indeed. You will notice how they want to give you better services each time you dine at their places. Sometimes, they even give you discounts and everyone will be so friendly and welcome you. I like this kind of people and eating places like this. I hope those who always think of getting revenge with the customers will adapt to this kind of services and not only think that the customers are burdening them or think that they are right where in fact it is their duty to serve and impress the customers to come back again.

hello corry, that is not good customer service, that is suck food service because they didn't tend to your needs and wants in the restaurant. I don't even care if that owner is my friend, i'd rather go to other restaurant, rather than complained that would cause a scandal. maybe let others complain, that would make it less painful to him..

Hi, LK! Oh yea, that was sucks indeed and no customer service at all!! As a customer, we pay for what we are eating, so, they should not in the first place think that we are troubling them if what they serve is not up to the standards they offer and in my friend's case the order was already wrong. So, instead of apologizing or trying to impress the customer they took it as revenge. Well, we never owed anything to that 'friend', so, we just complained to her so that she could expect why we would never go there again because if she just chose to warn the staff, it could happen again and worst because they're the same staff!! I guess there were still those 'innocent' staff who did wonder why and we told them without concealing anything.

It is really disgusting. Spitting in food proves their uncivilized manner, and putting hair strands, shows their crookedness. such people should be taken for a ride and exposed in public. you should have showed the food to other customers like you in that food outlet so that they in turn, will not only avoid coming to this place again but caution their near and near ones too who also will boycott. Fortunately I have not encountered such problems, but once when i went to such place the plate in which food is served was not washed properly and I called the manager and showed him and he immediately got it cleaned. In another place, the served did not set properly and mucous like thing was coming out of it, again i called the manager, and he got it replaced with a good one. Nice discussion. Thank you

Hi, Vathsala! I agree with you. Those people have no service and very narrow minded. They see things at one area only and not the whole picture. They are not sincere and as if we force them to do the work, but actually we do pay for their services. I don't think I would bring around the food to show to other customers because it would be unfair to other workers who have nothing to do about it. Words travel fast by mouth, so, they would see the cause of their own actions. That's great that you haven't encountered such situations, just be careful as this type of people is every where except that in this industry they have advantage because they are the ones who handle our food. Thanks and have great weekends!!

Those waiters can really get back to a customer without the customer knowing it. I have a friend who claimed that they do it all the time to customers who find fault in just about anything. He told me that a fellow waiter of his accidentally pour juice on a celebrity, so the normal reactions of that celebrity was get annoyed but decided to let it pass since it was accident however the companion of that celebrity who also happens to be a celebrity was the one raising hell about it so what he did was spit on the water on that celebrity and put a lot of ice cubes on it. They even watched that celebrity drank the whole glass of water. Sounds disgusting but that's what he told me. So I make sure that I treat those waiters kindly whenever I dine out. Cheers!

That was quite an unprofessional of the waiter. A customer pays for their services and they expect the customer to treat them like the customer owes them to work and serve for him or her. In this case, it was his friend who was careless and the guests have the right to show some dissatisfaction. It was embarrassing indeed when you were scolded or shouted at in front of many people, but that should be expected, right?! So, why not just improve the skills and services. Well, after drinking the 'juices', yuck, the celebrity is still a celebrity and he is still a waiter. Yea, just be nice to everybody... it is always a smarter choice.

wow````such as case i had experience before by myself. That is my period of part-time job in a Chinese and Western restaurants when i was in school.i'm the waiter. A few days later,i knew the inside environment is not very good in the restaurants although the surface looks good, the chef do the food inside and the customer outside don't know the food how to do.It made me think of the dining in restaurants before let me worry about if the food i have eat is unhealthy````

Hi, Judy! Welcome to myLot!! So, you worked in a restaurant before?? Yes, most of the staff I know did say that they would just pick up the food from the floor and pretended nobody saw it. Did the staff ever do something nasty with the customers' food at where you worked before? Do share with us. Thanks!
