For my job, once i had to remain away from my familyfor 1 year. That was the toughest period of my life. I have missed my wife and my daughter so much, i cannot express. My wife used to call me everyday and used to update me everything. That 1 year, was the ugliest 1 year. Have you ever been away from your family?

What? My goodness, away from your family for 1 whole year! Fortunately with today's technology you can chat and see them using a webcam and application such as windows live messenger or yahoo. I was once away from home (Malaysia) for 3 weeks in Germany and England but during those times technology was not so advanced as of today. I called every night from the hotel room and it cost me more than 500 German Marks just for 4 nights. So I ended up cutting down the time to call home.

Friend, i stayed in such a place where i had to wait for month plus for arranging internet connectivity. It happened in 2001-2002. Once authority fixed the VSAT, then we could get the net. It was in sierra leone and far away from the capital city freetown. Arround 200 km away. I worked as an UN Peace Keeper there. Yes, at the end the earning was quite high. But the days were really very tough for being away from family.

I've been away with my family for 8 months only. It's sad but not that bad. We have daily contacts and if I really to go home it's possible. I'm not that far from them. I do understand how you feel. Maybe someday I will face a situation like yours. I just hope I would be able to bring my family with me. shadow41

In my case i had been away from them for my office assignment. It was also not much possible for me to bring them to my service area. Yes, daily contacts had been there, but you can feel how tough these situations are!

I agree with you. It's really tough. That's why I'm saving money now cause I'm planning to start a business in my place so that I won't need to go somewhere else to work and leave my family. I don't know if it will work cause my girlfriend wants to go abroad and live there. Wohoh. shadow41

It is tough for both husband and wife. Love, affection are proportionate to close staying. Though many say that once you are away, you will truely realize the love and affection.

for my college time, I'm away form my family .Each year i saw my parents twice, and it's hard time to me, but I also enjoy that time, i have most friends that time, and learn more knowledge, how to take care of myself.... that's treasure for me.

Despite you are accompanied by your friends, i think you miss your family. By this you have become a self dependent, i believe. Thank you.

The longest period that I have been away with my family is a year and half because I am looking for work and searching for my own identity without being with my family.I want to motivate myself and try to be independent after I graduated. It is very advantage to my part because I gain so much learning.

You are struggling alone for your life? Dont you think that it would be possible while staying with family? Yes, i admit that you are learning from life being alone. As you had been away from family for a better job and life style, have you got that ultimately?

Strange school, strange classmates, strange teachers, distasteful foods,....... Everything is strange. Really tough!!! When i was alone I missed my family very much. But now, hard time is gone. I am already a junior.....hahaha..... Happy mylotting......

When I was 20 years old I went off traveling around the world. I was without my family for just over one year. I wrote letters to them and was able to phone them from Australia. When I came home much had changed. It was lovely to see my family again and find out all the news.

Four years !?! Oh God, and only one week with family in a year. For girls, life is a bit different. All along they are groomed up with parents. After marriage, shifting to another family, staying with husband. Bondage grows up ergonomically. Own parents, husband and kids.., quite an omnidirectional bondage.

You had one advantage that your mother could visit you. Besides. hostel life is not that bad. Due to many new friends, passing time gets easy.
