Why not discover a cure for something first?

I have been seeing that NASA went to the moon to find water on the moon, instead of looking for water on the moon why not look for a cure for cancer, aids, how to improve someones health instead of looking for water on the moon? I just can't understand man kind instead of looking for stupid stuff why not look for things that will make life easier here on earth?

Firstly, welcome to myLot. I'm sure you will spend many happy hours here.
I hear what you are saying, and those thoughts are shared with many others. Certainly a great deal of money has been spent on space exploration, but we also need to look at the flip side. Hundreds, if not thousands, of inventions and improvements are enjoyed by us today because of the work of NASA. Technology would not have increased to the extent it has if it had not been for space exploration. I have seen a long list of benefits we enjoy because of their work.

I understand what you are saying and I'm sure everyone agrees with you. I certainly would like to see more spent on medical research, but I think funds could come from other sources. Enormous amounts of money are spent on things that bring NO good results. Grants are given for petty, even ridiculous things. We know the Government will always find money for things they want to fund. That money just needs to be more wisely spent.

I agree with you cloudwatcher, I think that there is a lot of stupid grants given for things that should be the last thing the government gives out money. I think that they should really be looking for things that really matter. If they can't work on medical research then they should be spending money on getting people off the streets and into homes and feeding the people. There is so much that would really help people, but I see all kinds of stuff that could be fixed and not cost near as much as it does to train monkeys to fly the shuttle to the moon.....LOL

Discovery of any kind is good. Do you know what would happen if you suddenly cured all known diseases on earth? New diseases would show up for our next lessons in discovery. If you think NASA wastes money, you should look at the money wasted for wars and killing.

I don't think wars are unnecessary I believe that God would want people to stand up and not take anything from anyone. Here in the USA when 9/11 happened I am proud that our government sent our troops over there to let them know that they were messing around with the wrong people. I think going to the moon for water is kind of dumb though.

Well I think NASA's field is on studying and discovering things on the outer space and anything that flies. As for looking for the cure on cancer, aids and TB, that would be the field of Bio-Chemists now, wouldn't it? As far as I am concerned, people are still in the middle of finding a cure for these particular incurable diseases. Though already some says that they had already had found the cure for cancer, what I'm meaning to say is that men have their own fields where they are good at and where they are useful. Mankind does not focus on the outer space alone...maybe that reason that you think that way is because of the way the media focused on that kind of story. We can't blame them for wanting to get a high rating since that's what gives them money...
Just to leave something behind, "Prevention is better than cure". This saying works fine for me.I've had remained healthy despite the flu my classmates had during the time Swine Flue was rampant...^^

Thanks SinfulRose. I figure man has found a cure for a lot of things but don't want to use that cure cause then they wouldn't be getting the money they are getting from all the sick people in the world. My thoughts anyway. Man is so greedy they can't think of anything but themselves and what they need!
