how do I make friends online?

hi mr, well to be frank for guys making online friends is very difficult atleast here in India because they tell me that there is hardly any girl in chat room and if you message 100 girls only one or two answer and that too it is not easy to keep conversation going and to try this out i went to chat room once and everyone in chat room msged me and it was impossible for me to talk to anyone as most of them were buzzing and i had over 30 windows open so i went out of it.. so i guess best way to make friends is social networks like facebook, myspace and orkut and all the social networks have chat inside them so it shouldnt be any problem
