Why Do People Hate Metal?

It seems to me that a lot of people hate on metal music. A lot of my friends dislike rap and that genre of music but we dont voice our opinions out loud. All i seem to hear is that metal is just screaming and it doesnt make any sense. If you dont like it, then dont listen to it and dont spend your time ranting about it. Any ideas why people are like this?

Ha ha!Maybe there are many reports state that it has a concern with crime! However,it's too noisy for child and adult, and some youth may also think that! For my part, I like light misic more, because the live is too whiny, I need the peace of mind, do you think the metal could give you the peace of mind? No!

I actually find metal music to be relaxing, it really depends on the sub genre. I like listening to Iron Maiden just as much as i like listening to Cannibul Corpse.

"Whiny" -- now that's the best word to describe metal. Ha ha! It's too whiny that it can awaken sleeping babies. xD

I'm a music lover but I'm not a fan of metal. Metal music is such a nuisance, not only in the ears but also in the mind. Whenever I get a chance to listen to a few metal songs, my mind is really messed up and I get to think of war, blood and all the sinful things in the world. What I'm saying is, metal is manipulative, depressive and disruptive. Probably the lyrics doesn't make any sense but it does. And we won't know it unless we listen closely to the lyrics and read between the lines. I say something's in it.. xD

People are intolerant to things they don't like. As a big metal/post-hardcore/hardcore/etc fan I love it all. What are some bands you dig dude?

haha i pretty much love everybody in the genre, but their are times when i feel like they scream to a degree that they are trying to hard (like some of Dying Fetus's songs). For the most part i love just about everything metal, especially classic metal. i also ike some screamo like Devil Wears Prada

i love metal and most other rock and even some emo cause im a dork like that but i do truely despise rap but mainly because i think alot of it sends bad images and such but also because i get a pounding headache whenever im stuck listening to it like if im in one of my rap loving friends cars. but im not goin out harassing the masses i just listen to my stuff and they listen to thiers and i think its unfair that anyone should blame a specific tipe of music or anything like that to crime because people who listen to everything commit crimes its just a way to try to black sheepify people and divert people away from real problems that the world is facing.

you are so right. For school i was reading a book about a school shooting and the authorities blamed it partially on the music he was listening to, and the video games he was playing. Its neither of these, it was how society works and how he was treated his whole life. thanks for your input.

I wanted to respond in this discussion, thinking all the while that what you wrote about was real metal. Uh, you know, gold, mercury and other stuff Silly me! Anyways, I am not a fan of hiphop. As for Metal (music, yeah, now I know hahaha), I am not an avid fan of it too. I usually can't understand the lyrics and it's too screechy for my taste. I am also bothered at times by the themes of the songs, so I don't really dig metal. As for those who keep ranting about why they don't like metal, I think they're still entitled to their own opinion. I do agree with you that they should not listen to it! Hahaha.. I certainly avoid listening to metal as it gives me a headache. But constant repetition of a topic is annoying. Come to think of it, I think we all have our right to have our own likes and dislikes. And it's up to the reader if he or she agrees with whatever is commented or discussed here. Happy myLotting! Good discussion here by the way

Hmm.. You do have a point. Every genre has its own audience, it's own appeal, and it does not dictate to people that it should be loved or trashed. It's up to the people if they would welcome such genre. But if you ask me, I'd rather listen to metal than rap songs. We all have different tastes after all. One thing might be pleasant for one person, but might not be as pleasant to another.

The main reason why i started it is because i hear a lot more people hating on metal then i do other genres. I dont want people to like it, i just want people to respect it or at lewast not rant about it or bash it.

Well I do like some, but it's fair to say I don't like who Metal Bands an Fans associate themselves with, I just consider it a different lifestyle an yes you can say the same about hardcore rap.

At least you keep an open mind and seem unbiased. I wish more people were like that.

if your a night owl like me its good to listen to metal music at night as that loud music makes it seem more like day time although its not. i like the sounds and beats to the music more than the words themselves. you sound like your talking about the grandpa type who insult metal music, lol.

You know as the saying goes,' it takes all sorts to make the world go around'.Everybody has their likes and dislikes as everyone in this world has a different nature and a different make-up.There are people who are self-opinionated and like to voice their opinions regardless of whether the person to whom they are talking to gets hurt or not.The more you try to convince them the more louder thay become.I too am not fond of metal or rap, but i always keep my counsel to myself and do not like to impose my opinions on anybody. If somebody is ranting and raving then i keep quiet or change the subject abruptly. If the person is not thick skinned then he will take the hint and shut up. If he is thick skinned and still goes on ranting then the best thing to say is that you have another appointment and leave the scene.Try it.

I would seem like the last person on Earth to love heavy metal music as I'm a huge fan of classical music and I find it very relaxing. However, there have been times in the past when I have felt really rebelious and I listened to a heavy metal cd! Yes, I do actually have several heavy metal music cds! I don't have the long hair to do any kind of head banging! I think it's ok to listen to this from time to time but you really have to be in the mood. I will only listen to it when I am feeling angry and I want to release all that built up frustration. Andrew

I love metal music. But I guess the general perspective is that they make a lot of sound and so people refer to it as a nuisance. They think there is no lyrics and the singers are just screaming. But there is a lot of meaning and thought in a metal song.
