What do you do in the office if not busy?

I feel like my mind is idle if I am not doing work in the office, but how can you work if you don't have anymore schedule (work) to be done on that day? Sometimes I think better not to finish the job ahead of schedule, at least to allocate some for the coming days.
I am usually on field work also, if no field work I just stay in the office which is really boring and makes me sleepy. Sometimes I just go out, go here and there just to kill time.
Boredom is really unhealthy when it comes to work especially if you are not busy... How do you deal with this kind of work type?

Unlike yours, I have a lot of tasks to do everyday. It comes to a point where I could barely get up and have lunch. Then I realized, sometimes it took me long to finish one task because I was too tired to do it. A friend suggested that every now and then I should relax by walking or diverting my attention into something else (non-work). =P SO I started Facebook and Mylot.

Working too much is unhealthy for the body and for the mind as well as being idle for in the office the whole day. Try to give some break (if you are working too much). Good start I think that you do facebook and mylot for social conversations online.

Hello!
If I am not busy with office work, I do research on the internet for my two books I am writing right now. I spend a lot of time in the internet than doing office work, I am easily bored with paperworks, so I surf the net almost whole day doing research and spending more time here in mylot.

whenever its free time. i usually open my facebook account. playing different applications there. haha..i started playing farmville, farmtown, pet society, cafe world, restaurant city and a whole lot more!! facebook and mylot gives me enjoyment here on web. aside from using internet, i usually chat with my co workers. we used to chat shows such as big brother and etc. That's what i usually do during free time or not busy.

I also play farmville in facebook, but not that frequent since I just use my wife's FB account just to play her farmville also. And I don't want myself get addicted or used to playing online games at work even I am not busy. At least mylot keeps your head thinking for answer to topics or trying to open up a new discussion thread.

To be honest - it's a long time ago that I haven't been busy. I always seem to have another mountain of work to do.
If you really run out of work, maybe you could help colleagues who are behind?
Or you could take some books with you that can help you progress in your career - e.g. an Excel book so it looks as if you are busy and you use the time well?
Or if it happens often you could ask your manager to expand your role, give you more work, responsibility and money?
If you really struggle you can use the time to think of new questions for mylot!

Hello taraelocin! How I wish I can do that to ask my manager or boss to expand my role in the company. However, our company is just new (about 7 months) and comprises of few staffs only. I am trying to sort other way that I can make myself busy. Mylot is one that helps me kill time in the office.

lol..I've never worked at a place where I get a moment of free time. It's probably just me and even during my break I'm either doing or thinking of what I need to do next. I've also been known to bring work home...so I've never known what it is to be bored at the workplace...I've always had work to do every single moment.

If I am not busy, I would usually walk around the campus. It is one of my ways to exercise. Or, if the internet connection is fast, I would do my usual myLot activities. Or, if I have a longer break and I am not really busy, then I would take a power nap.

When I was working as a radio operator in one of the regional office of civil defense. If not busy I was calling all station nation wide and do some conversation about anything...But when I worked as assistant to the electrical engineer. I have free time to talk, always busy...Have a nice day!

I don't really have this problem as I have not worked in an office in a long time, but the best thing is to find something to do. Straighten your desk or something like that so that you are not sitting idle.

i always do like to finish the work as soon as possible when i have them. because after i finish them, then i will have my free time to do what i want. such as on mylot, or other online earning sites. or read some articles, or chat with friends, etc. but cant watch movies,

If it is not busy in office, i usually try to catch up on some reading and updating myself. Sometimes i just go for a short walk, when it gets extremely boring.

well, where i used to work, i always finish my due and report in early afternoon, the rest fo the day, im also idle and bored, if i feel doing the next day work, i would normally do it, and just edit it the next day id something changed but if not, i'll go outside, minggle a little to other employees. sometimes i deal with my boredom at work by doing some of my co-work mate due and reports, sometime i helped them or do it all by myself, they dont know much in computer so its taking them forever to finish.

I rarely have time to be idle in the office because where I work there's almost always something to do. Idle time equals to lost profit so the higher-ups strongly discourages idle time in the work place so they devise a way to make our hours productive. Like if there were no longer files to be copyedited (I'm a copyeditor by the way) then they cross-train us to another project. Which for me is fine since I get bored easily.

Well I find when I'm bored it really make the time go by slowly so I try to do something. When it's slow and there's nothing to do I'll file, surf the net for a bit, maybe read my emails, check my voice mail and return calls, maybe go and chat with a coworker or two, take a coffee break, maybe take the stairs down to the lobby and walk back up. When I have work that I know won't take me long to do I'll really try to procrastinate doing it, or just do it really slowly so that I have something to do.

I hardly ever had a spare time... but whenever I have free time, I just browse the net, read my perosnal email try to make myself busy. Edit pictures in photoshop... what ever I can do to kill time.

Playing simple games on the computer ,chat with the workmates.
Everyone should have a schedule for their life and work. Otherwise,you are wasting time. Does it make any sense waiting for night/Joy coming? I love to be busy,cause i would forget time when i am working.Although tired,but it's interesting.
