Sewing machine help...

I have been wanting to get into sewing so a few years back I went ahead and bought a brand new machine. It is a singer and I have maybe used it a handful of times and within those handful of times I have never actually been able to make or do much of anything with it although I really wanted to but it seemed like every time I went up and tried to do much with it I would get so far and then the bobbin thread underneath would get all wound up underneath and the machine would stop sewing so I would have to open it all up and fix it like every 30 stitches or so so I haven't been doing much with it because I get tired of fixing it. Well I have talked to a few people that I think might know a little bit about sewing machine and they have given me a few ideas like getting better thread and cleaning which I had done and still up to just three days ago when I was up there and tried it it was still getting bound up in the bobbin area. I want to getting into some sewing and have a few things that could use a good sewing but is too much to do by hand, so I was hoping that some one might be able to give me some tips. Are there any sewing experts that might have an idea as to why my underneath bobbin thread might be getting bound up every time I go to sew?

sounds like a tension problem, I have that ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!! I wish I could help you, but while I can go more than 30 stitches, I'm always doing it too.

I agree with the prior poster. It won't cost much to have a professional look at it. Before you do, though, you might want to try to adjust the tension. It sounds like it may be too loose, so that the thread isn't being taken up and loops around the bobbin. Look in your owner's manual or on the internet to see if you can find out how to adjust the bobbin tension.

I still have the book even after all of these years I guess that is because I haven't had the chance to do much with it...I will try to mess around with the tension and see if that helps. I was up there last night and couldn't even get the bobbin to stay in right. I got frustrated and left it sit and figured after a few days I will go back in there and try again. Thank you for your response =)

I used to sew a lot, and my machine was also a Singer. From what you've described, I am thinking it might be a fault in the machine itself. Have a repair shot check it out for you. It's a shame you can't enjoy it. The fee, should it need a repair, shouldn't be much. Karen

I have thought about taking it to a professional but because I live in a small town I would have to travels over 60 miles one way to have someone look at it so I was hoping someone could help before I went that far =) I am hoping I can get it fixed so I can enjoy it as well...Thank you for your response.

Sudden stopping after sewing at a good clip will almost always tangle your bobbin. This used to happen to me. My mother told me and showed me, and now this is no longer a problem.

That may be the problem as well I do do a lot of stopping because of just starting to learn. I will have to try and not do all of the stopping and see if that helps. Thank you for your response.
