T.I.P, = To Insure Promptness. I tip according to the service rendered. For excellent service, I tip well. For mediocre or ordinary service I tip according to scale or just below scale. For poor service, I determine if I will return to the establishment. If I plan to return, I tip poorly, but not so little as to be insulting. For me, tipping extends to anyone who provides a service. Service oriented jobs tend to be low in pay, yet require the most labor as well as people skills.

Hi Nowieh and welcome to my lot. I tip according to the service I get. If the waiter/waitress is good at the service then I tip very well. But say the waiter/waitress comes over and acts like I owe them I get up when I am done and leave a penny upside down that is to say you know what you can do with your service. It meant something really bad when I was a server. So I learned to be good at what ever I do. I try to treat people like they treat me. So the tip is according to the service if the service is good then the tip is good, if the service is bad then the tip is bad.

I had to laugh at your reference to the upside down penny. I remember one time when a group of my co-workers went to a coffee shop late one night. We had individual tabs. The waitress was terrible. She was rude and slow. A couple of people left the penny tip and left. The rest of us continued to sit and talk. The waitress came to clear the table and saw the pennies. She had the most puzzled look on her face. She asked "Did they not like the service?" All of us struggled to keep a straight face. We could not believe this woman did not realize how she had treated us earlier. However, after that, she was much better. She earned a decent tip from the rest of us.

I wonder why people like that don't understand when you are a water service that even when you have a bad day when you go to work you leave your personal life at home. When you have had a bad day and work with the public it is best to say that you are sorry for the service and just say I have had a bad day today. I have tipped water service when they explained to me about having a bad day. I am glad she realized she was being unfair to you and your party. I am glad that she changed her tune.
