There are lot of pirated CDs and there are lot of movies one can download through torrent. Do you think it's okay to do that?
What do you think of xeroxing the whole book? Is that okay according to you?

it is not good to buy pirated cds or download movies but for those who cant afford original for them to a limit it is okay... but some who can afford and still dont buy original cds or movies then it is not good morally and also not good for the movie company .......

It hurts the movie company in some way. But these movie stars are getting in term of millions. Of course their loss is also in term of million but I wonder if the loss of these companies or the actors is comparable to the gain of these poor customer. What's your view of photocopying books for personal use?
Thanks for responding. I have rated your post since there is sincerity in your post. I am not sure if other guys will agree with you though!

Pirated CDs and copying books is the same as stealing the original from a store. Theft is theft no matter how you obtain the product. Stealing is against the law, and therefore it can never be okay to do it, no matter how easy it might be to get away with it.

You are right in saying that theft is against the law. But what do you say of photocopying a book? Some say that if one is not using the pirated material for making money then it's ok. Well, I find it difficult it to justify, but I can understand who needed the material so much yet can't really buy it. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Rated your comment.

I am not that interested in music so I don't download songs. Moreover whichever songs I want to listen I can do that through youtube. However, I love watching movies so it's hard not to download movies at all. But I never knew that some people got caught and they got into trouble. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

actually , everything is illegal ...downloading via torrents, buying pirated cd's and xeroxing the whole book...
but the real cost of originals in my country is very high, so it is difficult for the people to buy the originals, but in foreign nations, the cost of originals are affordable and the people buy only the original, they buy original DVD's , original books and every software as original..
i will tell u an example, suppose a book in america costs $7 dollars, so the people in their country can afford it very easily and buy that book, but in my country $7= RS.350(approx) the median is high, so we go for xerox...
everything in the black is illegal, but it is ok for us, because we can afford only which we can give..so this all will vanish only if the median price come down..

I understand what you are saying. But I am not so sure if the situation of the user provides sufficient excuse from the power of legal binding. Okay nobody will arrest you for doing so, but does that make it legal? Once we grant that such thing is legal then whole lot of issues emerge. We can similar thing for lot of other things too by giving such excuse. Do you think society will be able to function well even if we say that some cheapers thing are okay to be duplicated? What is cheap for some may not be so for others. So where do you set the standard? These are my questions too.

What is this median price? And how much do you think should be the median price of Window in India? Well, I appreciate your view and thanks for the interesting discussion.

our country is not rich, we have many people suffering without food...
i say that the median price should be brought down...our country's standard price are affordable by the people, for example, i can buy a moser baer DVD, its affordable, every body can buy it obviously, but i can't go for a movie james Bond's Casino Royale it is RS.1000, original DVD from united states($ 20 dollars)
so , my point of view is not standardization, it is to bring down the median price between the country, $ 1 = Rs. 47...so if they bring down the median price, everybody can afford to buy the original Products...
well in United States, Windows 7 Ultimate costs $ 320, where in my country it costs RS.15,000...you see, i'm a student and i come from a middle class, how would i afford to buy that???
so bringing down the median price is the only way to standardize and stabilize the situation...

That was bad. How will they pay such a huge amount of fine? But in a way, he might be caught because he was trying to generate money through pirated CDs. After if one is a DJ one must be making money out of those pirated CDs. What do you think of photocopying books?
Rated your post; and thanks a lot for sharing your view.

It certainly is not okay to buy pirated movies or songs. Most of the time the songs found on pirated albums are copies of the original in case of songs that is which are sung by different people and not by the original singer. You have to carefully listen to find that the original song was not the one you are listening to. In case of videos and DVDs, the quality is poor compared to the original and often comes dubbed in a language you do not understand. So keeping away from these is a wise move.

But we also get lot of movies from the internet with good quality. I was wondering about them. There are CDs which are just the same as the original one in term of quality, but can be pirated. I think even here many people might be using Windox which is pirated. I wonder how many can afford original stuffs. Thanks for your comment anyway.
