Always a pleasure to hear from the FBI.

It's always a pleasure to hear from the American FBI, but I'm rather shocked at the sort of people they seem to be recruiting these days, as I can't see them being very good at catching criminals when they can't even construct a grammatical sentence, and now appear to be working harmoniously with the Financial Crime Commission in Nigeria. The latest cheery offering from the J. Edgar Hoover building itself wishes to 'intimate' me of important information. I'm confused, do they wish to intimidate me or get up close and personal? I've always believed though that Government bodies should really keep religion separate from the main business in hand so was discouraged to see them advising me on dealing with a Nigerian representative to 'abide His instructions as he is a Godly woman'. So do you agree that the FBI is possibly going down hill?

People do actually believe in these scams. A Canadian friend of mine whom I consider to be quite of a high intelligence got quite excited when she told me that she had won a lottery in Nigeria. And this was after our government had implored the citizens not to be so gullible. She came into my office, quite bushy tailed to go online and was quite prepared to give them her phone number and send the 'processing ' fee. She just would not listen to me. So I told her to ask them to deduct that amount from her winnings, and send her the rest. Of course she never heard from them again.

hi cynthiann, nice to see you again. Now my reaction to this is NEVER. People actually do send money. I've never read all through one to know that sending money was involved, I presumed on the whole by dialling a number one would pay about $60 dollars a second for making the call. So fess up, how much did they scam your friend for?

Nothing. Honestly. She sent them an email that I dictated and did not hear from them. Police are hunting down scammers in one section of the Island who are persuading senior citizens in the States and Europe that they have won free holidays and lotteries. It is horrible and also crazy that people are so trusting. Still not getting postings from my friends from Mylot. It is such a pain to have to look them up to see if they have posted. I have reported it 3 times and have not even received a response from Mylot acknowledging my complaint. Am bu***red if I know what to do next. Cannot stay long on Mylot - work gets in the way!

Or perhaps the intelligence of internet scammers is going downhill?

Maybe not, there were just enough gullible people that it didn't have to be...

Makes me wonder if they are up for being gullible a second time. I don't think there's been a good Greek scammer yet. Does one need to be particulary computer literate to do it?

Maybe the spelling mistakes is the loophole,we are looking forto get started ourselves, is why there is so much.I do hope the real bad ones get caught sooner than later. The older folks, who can be taken by a friendly visitor or writer .I feel great compassion forWhen they lend, buy or sign unknowingly.

Hi Capsi, I know there's just some scam mail that I have to read as it's so funny - I can't believe they go to so much effort (I presume) to set these scams up and then ruin them with simple spelling mistakes and mixed up genders. The others with 46 million won are just too tacky to start with, if they had a more realistic figure like 150,000 they might get a bit more attention.

I'm not suprised, they'd be a laughing stock if people signed up to a scam by the supposed FBI and they knew nothing at all about it. Are they still at the J Edgar building, the only current address I have will be from the imposters.

Hi Zed, which case are you referring to, there are just so many cases on my plate. Tracking down and exposing bad spellers in the FBI or my search for the murderous mylotters. Or perchance you are referring to my suitcase which I don't actually have as it broke which means I just have a weekend bag now and don't sit on it all to close it in case I squash the toothpaste. Or are you referring in fact to the case of the Nigerian scammers?

I could do with a chauffeur right now, it's pitch black, torrential rain, and I have to go out and drive through a mud lake to get to the supermarket which I should have gone to hours ago. It will just be too late though by the time you get here. Never mind I'm looking forward to a night off in my hunt for serial killers.

as far as i know FBI has always had its foot-in-the-mouth situations. what you mention here is perhaps on the lighter side and worth a laugh. but sometimes mistakes by agencies like FBI itself can be dangerous. however they always seem to get away with it....btw - have you been offered a position by them..??..

And just what do you mean by that last bit Sunny, I shall presume you think they would search me out for my brilliant skills at finding serial killers, but you may be thinking that lots of typos add up to bad spelling. There are stories indeed of the FBI being both dangerous and inept and forever fighting with police departments instead of working together. You did realise though that this was from a scammer though didn't you, although there's no ruling out that it wasn't one who works for the FBI.

Alack and alas Sunny it was too late when I discovered what my dream career would have been. No not as a serial killer, but as a psychological profiler for the FBI, if I'd only known and studied in the right areas of criminology and pshycholgy I could have had so much fun. And of course the scammer could be ex FBI, or even more likely an FBI want to be who got rejected because of his bad spelling and grammar.

maybe the scammer was ex-FBI. you never know what kind of people they hire..... also you don't know what expertise would interest them...and you did show an inclination towards the dark side....

Hi Aunty, it was from a scam email purportedly from the FBI. The spelling mistakes were the giveaway that it wasn't really. I'm hoping it keeps fine for tomorrow for the parade day.

Thanks Aunty. He's leading the March one, and I'm just hoping it's not to grey and miserable tomorrow as there's an awful lot of standing around while the poems are recited. IF we get good weather the whole thing will be really good.

Isn't spam nice? I really hate those types of email but, why have those people figured out that we are on to the whole "Nigerian" anything contacting us?? Geeze what's it been 10 years or longer since that all started?

Hi Zeph, if they don't need opening I usually give a glance at the more amusing ones and thought the FBI was a nice touch, but I have no time at all for the lottery millions ones.

I think the FBI has been "diluted". Our government is the reason. I don't agree that any agency should be run without government oversight and tight control. But the FBI and CIA must have enough leeway to do their jobs. We continue to make new laws and put in new rules and we are so worried that we are going to offend someone that these types of agencies are being crippled in their ability to be effective. I think that they are reaching out for other ways to complete their jobs. I think that if you got information from the FBI with grammatical errors that I would be concerned that it wasn't really from the FBI. I would contact the nearest field office and find out. That just doesn't sound like something they would put out.

Hi wlee, of course it wasn't from the FBI, it was a spammer scammer, but an amusing one I thought, and if they must infest our computers in this way then let us at least achieve the odd laugh. I presume when you say the FBI has been diluted you mean in numbers of active agents, or is it rather like the police in the UK where the manpower may well still be there but it is too busy filling in mindless paperwork to actually go out and detect something?

Gosh, 7 a day from the FBI, you'll be on their 10 most wanted list next, I wonder why they show such an interest in you. Actually are you sure you don't possibly work for them, I've noticed when you pop up and say more than just a few words you seem to have found a new way of spelling certain words.
