How does it feels like to have leukemia

Few days ago, I found out that one of our friends has leukemia and in its terminal stage. It was a weird feeling knowing that I can't do anything to help him except pray that God extends his life so he can spend more time with his family. I cried the first time I heard about it. After some time, I can't seem to get the curiosity out of my system. I am just wondering how it feels like to be sick with leukemia. What do these patients usually think when they first hear the bad news and after it sinks in? How do they deal with it?
