I'm not generally all gung-ho about celebrities, but Lou Holtz doesn't exactly fit into that category. Although he's now on ESPN as an announcer for college football, he has a far longer career as a head coach of schools like William and Mary and Notre Dame.
I wrote about this yesterday, I get to meet Lou Holtz tonight!!! but to recap, he was in Richmond Va in support of Bob McDonnell running for governor. Lou Holtz is known as a great motivational speaker so it was great to see him in action, and he really is amazing. We ended up getting to spend a fair amount of time with him after speaking and since my boyfriend was pretty much just in awe of his presence, I got to speak to Mr. Holtz for about 15 minutes.
They were handing out footballs there that Mr. Holtz had signed and my boyfriend got one. They also had extras that were unsigned(I imagine he just ran out of time before he had to go speak). My boyfriend mentioned that he was going to give the ball he had to his father for Christmas this year since his father is a huge ND fan as well. I thought that was so sweet, given how much he likes Lou Holtz himself so I decided I would try and get one for my boyfriend. I got one of the unsigned balls and got Mr. Holtz to sign it for me. He even included one or two of his one-liners that he is famous for. He's such a great guy!Anyway, I managed to sneak the ball back out to the car and get back to the party under the guise of getting another drink for my boyfriend and I and I now have an awesome Christmas present for my boyfriend. Yay!After talking to him for about 15 minutes(and taking numerous pictures for god knows who), he asked for a hug. I'm praying there won't be a massive picture of me hugging him in the paper today since I'm actually a democrat, but oh well. My boyfriend kept hugging me the rest of the night and while he kept saying that he thought it was cool that I not only found this event, but went to it and had fun, I knew it was just because I had gotten to hug Lou Holtz.
While I found it amusing at how quiet my boyfriend became around him, I think I'm going to keep my mouth shut for the most part. If Coach K from Duke ever speaks in Richmond, I'll definitely be as awe-struck as he was last night.
Such an awesome night!
