The relentless cacophony that is life in the 21st century can make settling in with a book difficult even for lifelong readers and those who are paid to do it.Sometime late last year, exactly,i noticede i was having trouble sitting down to read. How about you?

Hi Lichee. Thankfully, I still always have a novel I'm reading close at hand. I've loved reading since I was a kid, and love it still. Most of my friends and family do, too. We trade and exchange books with one another all the time. It's a wonderful escape, a beautiful way to get lost in a great story when life becomes hectic. Like you, I need relative quiet to focus on what I'm reading...soft music doesn't bother it, but TV?? Off it goes. Karen

Hi...I think no one, even a child, likes to be "forced" to do something! It can make them not like to do it, even as an adult. My name, Karen, is English and means "pure or purity." My father picked it out when I was born and my mother liked it, too :)

Hi lichee, I actually use my books to "tune out" the hustle and bustle of my everyday life. There is something about settling in with a good book that relaxes and refreshes me. I could not go one single day without reading, even if the reading time has to be late at night.

Being a book lover myself, reading books never cease to amaze me. It's like transporting oneself to another world and having a chance to interact with different people represented by the author. There are days that I feel I am not in the mood to read for various reasons but I don't exactly lose my interest in reading. I may put it off for a while but get back to it in no time. I understand your point though, and it does happen to some people. cheers!

lichee china I love to read, and have loved books all my long life. I just do not think books are going anyway. but if you can tune out the noisy clatter of life in the 21st century then settle down and just ear plugs if necessary but do enjoy that book. I am retired so am not a fair example. but I have done less reading since I got on the internet, I blame some of it on my love affair with mylot. But I have been making a concentrated effort to settle down for an hour each night after' mylotting of course with a good book. such lovely company and it can take me anywhere. like a magic carpet.

Maybe you are right, but it's impossible that the ebooks replace books,at least now.
