Have you tasted or eaten okra or other call it lady finger? This green and slimy when cooked edible yummy and nutritious vegetable is good for those who have digestion problem. My aunt said it has lots of antioxidants. I just boil it or steam it and dip in soy sauce and it's good. My dad grows okra in the garden and the neighbors sometimes just get them without asking for permission. LOL. Anyways, the plants are old now and the remaining okra had turned to brown and seeds to be harvested. It grows well just anywhere. So okra anyone?

Your dad should start extra seeds and give each of the neighbors their own plants so they will not take his okra. I have never heard it referred to as "lady finger" before. Okra is very popular where I live thouh I don't like it because it is slimy.

The neighbors also ask for other vegetables as well. LOL. My dad sometimes gives the seeds but they say that they don't have space for planting.

They don't need space. They can grow in flower pots, buckets and other containers. They can make a hanging garden as well as long as there is a little sun. My mother grew a fig tree in a large garbage can.

On it's own, no. But in fried form...HELL YEAH!!! Fried okra was one of my favorite Sunday foods that I always looked forward to eating. I even eat that at all-you-can-eat restaurants like Ryan's or Golden Corral. Because of the crunchy crispiness and saltiness on the outside, flavorness and juiciness and on the inside, I can't get enough of the stuff on Sunday! I just gobble it all up while savoring every crunch of it!

I live in the southern part of the United States and okra is a very popular vegetable here. There are even a few festivals for the okra. it is often deep fried after coating with corn meal. I have made pickles with them in the past. They are also often added to a dish called gumbo.

That's nice having an okra festival. There's nothing like that here.

Yes, of course, i do and i love okra. I love it steamed and just like you, we usually eat it dipped in soy sauce with kalamansi. But i like to share something i learned about okra from my step-daughter. There was a time in her high school days that they were asked to do or cook something as their project. They sliced okra into two, then remove the seeds in it. Then they put some corned beef on and they fried it. Yummy. And that's another way to cook and eat okra. You can then dip it in catsup or gravvy.

hi agv. I also love okra in pinakbet. And also in pork sinigang or shrimp sinigang. But may I ask you about "laswa", what is this dish made of? Is it a specialty in a certain place? You know, I just heard about this from you.

I used to not eat it when I was small because it was yucky but then I slowly liked it when I grew up. But bitter gourd I still don't like the smell of it makes me vomit and I cook bitter gourd for the rest of the family but with a mask LOL

You're right, Sandymay, it is pretty yucky and slimy, but when cooked properly, the slimyness (spelling?) can be hidden and the taste enjoyed. My favorite recipe is to fry okra along with coconut grating. My mom also used to prepare an okra curry - I still haven't figured out how it was made, but I do know it was quite delicious. I guess in this case, appearances can literally be deceptive, huh?

I don't recall them being called ladyfingers before. We do eat them but we buy them frozen and breaded then we bake them and eat as is or with whatever condiment suits our fancy.

I know most children don't like it because it's slimy. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it.

I know ladies finger. I am not a fan of it. My mom makes a dish of it in coconut milk and I like it. My favorite ladies finger dish is stuffed ladies finger. I had it once from a resturant and it was very good. I downloaded the recipe of it from internet, got all the ingredients including corn flour, and tried making it, but it was a big flop. One of my colleagues wife makes it very well.

i like to make okra stew, okra fry, bhendi(okra)kurkure, and stuffed bhendi in my indian style and i also add okra in my sambhar recipe also . i like this vegetable more than other vegetables . my mom makes gravy curry with adding yogurt in okra curry. i have heard of okra and prawns curry(jhinga bindi fry),but didnt had it. and also i heard that bhindi and rajma(red kidney beans)can be used in a curry. i should try it. for digestion it is good and also our brain power can increase when we take okra and it is low in calories ,but have rich source of fiber, minerals and vitamins.it is recommanded for weight reduction.

lady finger - chopped lady finger
Yes, I have tried eating lady finger and it was quite good. I only tasted it when it was steamed, with soy sauce as a sauce. I think it was really good, but it still depends on the lady finger. I love the baby ones. I did not like the older lady fingers, which was quite hard to eat. Lady fingers are quite slimy, and some have worms, so it's not my favorite.

I have been eating okra all my life but have never heard it called lady finger. that's interesting to know. If u will put a little vinegar in the water where u boil it , it will keep it from being so slimy.
