It's been a busy morning around here, and the phone's been ringing off the hook and I finally couldn't take it anymore and answered it. BIG mistake!
Caller: (sound of a foghorn blowing) Good Morning, this is your Captain speaking....
Me: Not interested...
Caller: But ma'am we have a wonderful, sunfilled, funfilled offer for you on one of our cruise ships............
Me: I repeat. I am not interested.........(now I'm pissed at myself, so decide to salvage my irritation and have some fun, so I don't hang up and let the fool babble on....)
Caller: Ma'am I assure you that once you hear our offer you will be packing your bags to take advantage of.......
Me: I want a first class cabin then and a place at the Captains table.
Caller: But ma'am our offer only includes..........
Me: How badly do you want my money?
Caller: MA'AM, WE ARE MAKING THE OFFER HERE!
Me: Ah, so what I want doesn't count eh?
Caller: Ma'am if you would just let me explain.................
Me: Listen buddy, a first class cabin and a seat at the Captain's table or the deal's off.
Caller: Ma'am that's not the way it works.............
Me: Then hang up.
Caller: But..........
Me: Deal's off. Good-bye "Captain".
Caller: Wait.......wait...............
Click.
In a way I kinda feel sorry for the poor guy. He's got a quota to fill after all, but man, they should learn that no means no and just move on to the next name on their list.
When was the last time you had a phone call you could have fun with? Does it make you feel bad to play with people's heads when they are so SERIOUS? LOL

well i have a couple of times especially since for a while that was my daughters job to sell siding and people would get mad and say hey we were sitting down to dinner or i work nights and just got to sleep and she'd get cussed out and everything but she said you learn to just deal with it. no ones job is easy.
so i've done it a couple times, but it was different. i've gotten them on the phone and talked about gossip and even made up gossip etc. i got a laugh but they got to wanting off the phone. you know like "do you know josey? shes been sleeping with the mailman when he comes while her husbands at work. i get tired of waiting on my mail and so and so has been doing this and that...yada.yada.yada"!!

Don't blame you. I nearly fell over when I first saw them thinking about the balancing act a person would have to do to stay upright..................so I'm guessing you're not a ballerina at heart as these shoes would really only be good for them. lol

I know how that is...I get atleast 5-6 calls a year wanting me to donate money or join something. I tell them right now money is tight and I don't even have all my bills paid but still they go on..and on..even as you still tell them repeatedly not interested,no money sorry...I donated money to one foundation for Cystic Fibrosis and now I get calls from others as I said 5-6 times a year. And they won't let you just donate $5..they have to have more..their lowest is $15...
I know it is there job to be that way which I call it the Bulldog way since they get on it and don't wanna let go..I wish I could Donate money to every Cancer,Diabetic,Police,Firefighters,Womans Shelter,Fighting against Global Warming, and the Christmas funds..that help kids that calls, But I just can't If I had it to spare they'd have it.But when it comes down to bills, toilet paper, dishsoap or spending/giving money I don't have ..my toilet paper wins I am softhearted and they know that...

And Xmas is coming so the calls are going to become more frequent not to mention the mail solicitations! Bummer. I support waaaaaaaay to many causes right now myself because I'm soft hearted too. So that's another reason it's fun to play with the heads of the ones that are total nonsense.............

I hate those calls which generally come at dinner time! My husband answered the phone one night and listened to the well rehearsed script then he said no thanks but obviously the guy on the phone continued on so my husband clearly irritated said, “Give me your home number and I’ll call you back” To this the confused chap at the call centre explained that he was not going to give my hubby his home phone number and to this my husband replied, “Why not? You have mine! Are you working tomorrow at this time?” The guy said no. “Okay then, “ My husband retorted, “Give me your home number and I’ll call just as you are ready to sit down to dinner and I will talk crap with you for twenty minutes as I ignore your refusal all while your meal is getting cold! How is that? Do you we have a deal?” No reply, just dial tone...

LOL...thats funny....
I usually dont answer the phone unless i recognize the number (I HATE the phone!!)
but occasionally when i do get caughte like that i just hang up...
My husband on the other hand LOVES to mess with them....
he will let them think he is buying ANYTHING they are selling for the longest time...sometimes he never tells them he just lets them think they have made a sale...
I think thats mean...but its funny to listen to.

More power to your hubs pixeltwistr. I figure if the powers that be in the telemarketing world have not yet figured out that the hard sell is NOT the way to go when people say no right off the bat, then being played with is their just due for being so annoying. lol

Hi sparky,
ome people just can't take no for an answer, I had a double glazing sales man on the phone once an he will not go away although I was trying to tell him my house was all double glazed, so in the I give up and and said yes then I told him this was a fish and chip shope, then put the phone, I haven't them call back again. Love and hugs.

with stuff to say like that! I usually just get to pissed off
and say that "I'm not interested" and hang up! I think your way
was alot more fun! And you made the guy work which is even better!
You just made him keep working all the way unil the end! Nice going!

Hi spark of insanity: we all know how are these calls for offers you simply don't want to know but at the same time i feel a little bit sad for this poor man, let's admit at least this, that's his job. It's horrible and we hate that people call us and ask this kind of **** you know what i mean, but they have no option. In my case i simply answer no thank you as many times it's necesary to finish the conversation. I don't know how to say no specially because i feel pity for them

I know what you mean and I agree, but when an adult can't take no and no and no for an answer, then in my book they deserve to be played with! LOL

hi sparkofinsanity I had one who insisted I had a timeshare to sell, after I had said several times that I did not own a time share,he talked right over me. So I decided to pretend I did
and wanted to sell but only if paid a whole lot. He quoted a price and I kept uping it,,and finally he said, but I am working for blahblah and we can only pay blah, so I said well with that dinky payment I should get at least a big gift beside the money you offer. Oh we can't do that. So I said, okay deals off. bye and hung it. I have no sympathy with these telemarketers at all. no sympathy.

I have a lot of sympathy for those cold callers, I know that they are just trying to make a living so I don't tease or play with them that waste their time from what might be a live wire on the next call. We have a way to get out of receiving most of those types of calls Thank God.

I understand they are just trying to make a living too, but I wouldn't let my kids off the hook if they weren't hearing what I was saying to them, and as these callers are adults, they really should know better.........

LOL that's a funny story. I have never got to have "fun" like you describe it, I will simply refuse and hang up. Other times, I just get a robot talking to me, so when I try to interrupt it they will keep on talking:
He just kept talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had the chance to interrupt him . . . But really quite hypnotic . . .
When I think they are doing this, I will say mean words to the robot and hang up, since no one is really listening to me.
