Do you check your spelling?

How many of you care if you misspell a word on these discussions? I know type-os happen all the time, but do you make an effort to check? I am not making a statement about spelling mistakes I have seen, I am sure I make some myself. And for those who have english as a second language, I wouldnt expect perfect writing. I am just curious if anyone is making an effort to get all their words correct. I try my best to keep all my words spelled right, but I find that some of the words I use in speach, I have never written down and dont have any idea how to spell them. Further the double letter words usually mess me up.

Hi rodsdman Well i understand, i do try to check my spellings as well, i usually make a lot of mistakes, but then my browser warns by showing a red underlining and so i rectify it, it just makes it easier for me to check for my errors while spelling, yeah but even if that feature had not been present in this mozilla i would have still made some attempt to be careful with spelling errors, i would not want to make any, and i try to be as fluent as i can be, you see am not a native speaker of English myself.

hi again rodsdman, well i use the older mozilla version, the 2 point series, i guess the 3 point series don't have the spell check, oh yeah they don't have, my friend uses and he hasn't got the spell check in his browser... i don't like the 3 point version so i use this older one... Hindi is my first language, I am from India, i write a ok ok types i guess , but then i think i can't talk this well hmm.

you say mozilla has a built in spell check in the browser, I will have to check that out. Based on this paragraph I would not have guessed that english is your second language, it is fluent no nouns and verbs reversed. what is you native language?

I usually check my spelling. Can't say the same for my grammar though. Anyways, I do try to spell my works correctly unless it is some non English word or something else. Whenever I get that red squiggly line underneath the word that I typed up, I always go back to make sure it's right. I'm not a perfect speller or anything but it makes reading things easier if the spelling is correct.

I always try to check my spelling also. It seems the older I get the worse I spell. I use spell check if I send a e-mail or something. I haven't figured out how to check my spelling on My Lot. It would be nice if I could. I am a new My Lotter and there's still a lot of things I don't know. How do you get that red line under your comments? I spelled something wrong on purpose and I didn't get it. Let me know how that works. I'd be very interested.

You know, I think it's automatic. Most of the time when I spell something wrong or type my words together the line thing just appears. It's like in the Microsoft Word program. There's those red underlines for wrong spelling and green for grammar or something like that.

I normally check my spelling before finally posting my discussions but inspite of my careful review, I still notice some misspelt words in the final post but there's just no way to get back to them. I think this is true with some other users like me where English is not our mother tonque. Yes, it pays to check our spellings and it is a learning process too especially for us.

ya, I hate it when I do that. they should have some sort of edit button so you can go back and make a quick change to your comment. I guess its because they give you a second chance with the preview button.

wow, out of nearly 30 responses you were the only one to say that you dont care. I figured this question would draw out more contrary answers than it did, thanks for writing

I don't actually. But some are just simple mistakes like the letters got mixed up because of my typing. I really don't check or preview my responses before I post it.

It really depends on how I feel at the time. If I'm saying something important than yes if I don't care than no!

I dont usually check my spelling because I am a good speller. The only thing that happens to me are typos. I do have many typos and they happen all the time. I guess that there are issues with me trying to type too fast. I like typing on my lot and will often do that, but I dont like it if my discussions are painfully full of typos though. It makes them hard to read.

i care lol. uhhuh i did make an effort to check. i have english as my second languange, therefore i still need lots to learn. And that is also the reason why i joined lots of english discussion, so that i will get used to it, spoken and written english. I'm suck in spoken english, i'm always stuttering and maybe my friends couldn't understand what i was talking about lol..we talked in yahoo messanger btw. But gladly, they're really understanding with my english since it's not my native languange. I love to correct my own spelling words, sometimes i do need a dictionary to know the right spelling, that's how i learn. nice topic rodsdman =D happy mylotting

I care a lot about spellings myself and so when ever I start a discussion or make a response I take my time to see that whether I have any spelling or grammatical mistake or not. I correct the error and then keep on writing. Making spelling mistakes and not correcting it is a bad thing and we should avoid it.

Yes, I do check spelling of words in my discussions. If I am not sure of the spelling of a word I look in my dictionary to fine it. If I can not I will think of another word I can use in its place that I know how to spell or can fine in my dictionary.

I try to keep track of my spelling as I am writing. If I'm not sure about something, spell checkers on the computer are very useful. Sometimes i get in a hurry and spelling errors get by me. When it happens at mylot, I don't realize the typo until I have already posted my response or comment. I cringe when I see the mistake, but I go on. What else can I do?

I try my best to keep my spellings correct. It's not good to make wrong spellings all the time. In fact, English is not my mother tongue and therefore I might make some mistakes once a while. Fortunately, the web browse that I am using, FireFox, is having the spelling checker function. It really helps me a lot, because I found that I normally typed wrongly, especially when I was in hurry. However, there are times I encountered the conflicts of British and United States spelling. But I will usually stay with British spellings because it's our default here.

I don't know what others feel about misspellings, but I manage to keep every word spelled right for I fear that misspellings may cause problems and even confuse others when they read. At least this is what I feel. I've met many such cases and honestly I do not like misspellings. To me, it shows that the person who misspelled a word can't be competent in doing other things, especially in handling delicate matters. But as you said, many mylotters here are not native English speakes, and it is inevitable for them to make mistakes in spelling. Be that as it may, I still think that everyone should make every attempt to avoid misspellings, which is also a way of making mylot a better place for communicating. Just imagine a mylot where many words are misspelled and we can't make out the exact meaning of a discussion. It is an entirely mess. I'm sure none of us want that to happen in mylot. So we should give it a try and check our spellings every time we post.

I usually try to, even in IM. But I'll admit, lately I've been to lazy to care. I'm trying to change that though, because I feel dumb if words are misspelled.

Oh I do. Not only I check my spelling but also the entire comment or response I'm about to post. I check it thoroughly by proofreading it. But sometimes when I'm on a hurry, I don't bother anymore to proofread my comment and it can't be avoided that my spelling are wrong and so as my words. They're jumbled. And I don't like that. It's embarrassing. shadow41

I can't agree with you anymore. Every time, before I post a new response, I will chech whether I have misspelled a word in the discussion. I often make some mistakes for English is not the first language in my country. In fact, for most people, I guess they may make a mistake sometimes even if English is their monther tougue. So, it is very necessary to correct our spelling errors. Happy myLotting!

I try and go back and proofread what I write but sometimes I don't see my mistakes or simply I don't know they are mistakes. English isn't my native language so sometimes I learn new things writing on here!
