are you gonna wear a mask for the trick or treaters? not a fun one,but a medical? i was thinking about this last night,as they've said the schools here are "rife" with it.of course a lot of it is probably hysteria..just a sneeze from a common cold would scare them.but as i have a frail biddy here,i'm not taking chances,i don't want even an offchance of her coming in contact with it (and neither do i want it). it would stand to reason if they're sick keep them home, but you know how well that works on halloween with a kid sick with anything (i'm better mom, really! )

Actually, there was a report on the news that the H1N1 virus is not new, but it has been around for years. They said that there was a major outbreak earlier in the 1900's, and anybody born before the 1950s is not recommended to get the flu vaccine, as they should have natural antibodies against it. In addition, when my little one got the vaccine for both the regular flu and H1N1, there was mention on both the fact sheets that there was a previous vaccine for H1N1 in the 1970s. Therefore, I think that the media is just overplaying this "newest" virus to get attention and viewers. I take precautions to not get the regular flu, and those are the same precautions that I will be taking now. Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly. Cover your face with your arm when you cough or sneeze. Eat nutritious foods and take your vitamins regularly. You know, all the stuff that you are supposed to do anyway.

I am not sure what year it was, but the vaccine for the H1N1 in the 1970's caused serious health problems. I think that is when they started doing more testing and improving vaccines to make them safer, but I could be wrong about that. I do know that the recent vaccine has been reported to be safe, especially since they are not using the actual virus in the vaccine. Since this particular one has not been around that long, though, I still think it is far too early to tell. I did get my little one vaccinated, though, because the risks from the virus outweigh potential risks from the vaccine.

Actually there is a lot of hype and hysteria going on with this flu stuff that's going on. I do what I do every year, stay indoors, wash my hands a lot, keep sick ppl away from me and live on chicken soup and hot cocoa. b]!!Happy Turkey Day!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**[/b]

I did not wear a mask. Didn't even occur to me. But then I tend not to get all the stuff that goes around anyway.

we cant celebrate where im at. cant go into the reason. but i do celebrate online without family knowing. i loved giving out candy to the little ones when i lived alone and with my late hubby. i hear its worse for the kids to get this flu. so, yes, id wear a mask and let on like its for halloween. or if your child cant celebrate, buy some candy just for them and sit with them in costume and watch some kids movies and leave the lights out.

we only had 8 show up this year-it seems to get lower every year even without flu risk.

Hi scarlet_woman, I can happily say no trick or treaters to think about as no halloween out here, and I haven't heard of a case of swine flu here since June. You look after the sick biddy now and those slobs as well.

Halloween came and went up here without much worry. We just did what we normally did, and dressed the way we normally dressed, and things went on as usual. There is very little worry about the flu in this area. Sure we watch out for it, but we are not taking any unusual precautions.
