Have you ever bought a New computer and then had something happen and wished you would have bought yours from somewhere else so you could have had a warranty, etc. with it as well? Or bought things not bothering getting the warranty to only wish you had later on? Well, I have done this in the past, and learned my lesson a couple of times so now unless I warranty it, if I am going to spend a lot of $$ on something I get a warranty included for sure.
I just bought a Dell XPS 430 the end of April, and had it delivered to my house. It is actually the Computer I am using while posting this discussion as well. But I have been having nothing but problems with it lately which is quite frustrating for sure. I have tried everything to really no avail. Everytime I come in here and keep active doing something I have no problems, but anytime I am off of here even for just 10 hrs. now my Computer ends up freezing to where I have to reboot my Computer for it to do anything. After spending an hr. on the phone last night with Dell while also trying to post some in here they helped figure out I have a BAD hard drive, so they ordered a New one for me, and I should have it replaced in a couple of days. So maybe I should unhook this Computer for now, and use one of my other ones in the process?
But it is a Good thing I spend the extra $$ for things like this as it is a better protection I feel for me in the future for sure. And since I know little about how to change things myself it would make better sense as well.

This why I buy HP products. they gave us Dell laptops at work and we all had so many problems with them I'm surprised they are still in business! Sorry! I've been buying HP for over 12 years and nver had a problem with anything from them! Tdemex

I built cars for many years and no matter how hard our Quality Control tried, there was always 1 lemon! So don't doubt there were a few HPs out there suffering for the same thing! However, I'm 62 and have been trough 2 Desktops! 1 digital camera, 4 printers and 4 desktops all Hp and never any problems with one of them in fact most are still in use after 15 years!

I am glad that it will be paid for. I have been lucky so far. I am glad they are taking care of it for you.

Well, it has been interesting, and I had to have 2 New hard drives put in this computer last month, but it does look like things might be working a lot better now. Just wish I could find more time to be here online.

Well, I have a laptop that is also a Dell, and the other home Computer that still runs good that is almost 4 yrs. old, but I was needing a better computer for playing some of the games I like to play, so I figured this Computer would do great. If all of the Bugs ever get completely worked out on it, it probably will.

I always check the warranty with any new product I buy. I only buy reputable brands, because a warranty is useless if the company goes out of business.
As far as computers go, I have a great little computer shop that attends to all my computer business. Astrabyte is a local business which only sells and uses top quality products and they have willingly gone the extra mile for me. I check prices at other stores and Astrabyte always gives me a much better price than the lowest available.
I am strictly non-techno, so any I ring Astrabyte if I have any problems. If they can't help me over the phone, the technician will come to sort out the problem and once again they are very generous with their charges and have "thrown in" extras at times as well. When the problem has meant I'd be without a computer/modem/screen for a few days, they have given me a loan of one. I would be lost without them.

Well, it would be nice if I knew someone or somewhere that I could depend on when it comes to Computers, and doing the work they need done in them from time to time, etc. but since I do not, I buy from other places, and usually get extended warranties to cover the length of the Computer as well.

Hi Tina, I think that it's always important to have a warranty on your system. When the warranty expires you should renew it. I for one love diggin around inside my pc. I tend to do everything myself so I don't have any warranty on my pc, that expired some time ago. If you don't know what you are doing though then I would always advise that a warranty is taken out and extended when it is about to expire, this will save you a lot of cost later on. I also have a Dell computer and I'm very pleased with Dell in terms of support when I used them. Andrew

I know just how you feel because I had a modem to blow out with me twice since I got this computer in February of this year. What happened was, lightning struck my house twice and both times it blew out my modem. Since my computer was under warranty, I had both of the modems replaced free of charge. Everytime we have a storm, I unplug my computer. You would think that after the first time it happened, I would learn my lesson. Because I'm getting older
lol, I forgot again! I try to remember everytime now. Kathy.

Well, even since they replaced this harddrive, there are still times I am having some issues with my Computer, but I am just keeping an eye on it. But at the same time, I am really beginning to wish I would have bought this Dell in a store so someone there could look it over more themselves to where then I could feel more satisfied.

We warranty our items. We don't want anything to happen to them and not be able to fix them as it seems if they don't have a warranty they break a lot sooner. Then again technological things like computers become obsolete, and then some other new computer comes out like once a year, it seems... Like windows 7 with all the new screens, etc.

Good thing u had the warranty. My son bought a dell a few years back thinking he was buying the best & he had trouble w/it forever. Nothing is made well anymore no matter what u buy or how much u pay for it.

I'm glad that some things come with warrantees but I never buy the extended warrantee anymore. I've never had anything go wrong with anything I've bought until long after the extended warantee has expired. Also, learning that salesmen are encouraged to push those extended warantees and get a bonus every time they sell one with any electronic gadget or appliance, I decided to stop paying that extra money.
One thing I'm fearing right now is that my laptop is causing some major problems... financial problems! I'm on my desktop right now. My husband had to completely reinstall everything, including the operating system. I'm so glad he did that because I'd have no computer to use at all right now if he hadn't. I turned on my laptop only to be told, in a pop-up from my anti-virus program, that a worm was trying to send my credit card information somewhere. I turned it off immediately! I did have that service called LifeLock, which secures and insures your personal information up to $1 million, but I had to let it lapse because of lack of funds. (It's only $9.95 per month, but we didn't even have that.) Now, I'm very afraid that our banking information has been breeched! I'll have to wait until he wakes up to tell him what just happened so that he can delete and reinstall everything on my laptop. Geez.
We just recently got new cell phones. Mine keeps freezing up like you mentioned about your computer. I have to reboot it at least once a day. I'm thinking about replacing it with another phone while it is still under warrantee. I've found that, if something is going to go wrong, it usually does it in the first year when the normal manufacturer's warrantee is still in effect.

I have a three year warranty with the laptop I bought last year. I paid a little extra for it but I am so glad I did! I bought a great HP laptop which I had to return because it was scratched, got another one and had to return it because the touch controls would not work and the third had to go back because DVDs would not play properly on it. I could not believe it; this was HP which is one of the best computer brands out there! After contacting their head office and demanding a refund I bought myself a Toshiba Satellite and have not looked back; it works just fine and I’ve had it almost a year now. I decided on the extended warranty after all the problems I’ve had; it’s just piece of mind.

Hi KrauseHome
well warranty periods are absolutely necessary when it comes to computers, one of the things that could easily malfunction over smallest of mistakes, extended warranty is also advantageous, motherboard flaws are one the worst and they could easily change it without asking for some extra bucks coz the product is in warranty period.

I never buy warranties they are usually ripoffs, the only warranty you should have is the one from the store, over the life of the product you will pay almost half of what you paid for the product over the life of it.
Also they will keep charging you unless you ask them to stop.
Clark Howard who is possibly one of the greatest consumer advocates ever warns highly against buying warranties, all your doing is giving the salesperson a nice commission.

Hi Krause,
I think most the products are available on warranty now. Something similar incident happens to us in our office. We bought a new computer and after installing an anti virus packages the computer stopped working and hard disk showed some errors. Luckily it was on warranty and we got a new hard disk instead of the damaged one. So before buying the product we have to make sure that the product is on warranty.
