There are 188,935 populatin right now in mylot and I know that a lot of folks are from different country with different background. We can not use the same name to sign up, that is why a lot of people use a bunch of letters with digit to sign up only. And a lot of people would not like to use their real name either. I see that some of the people like to end up their comment with their name, in such case, I will address her name using her own signature. How about you? Will you address somebody while you leave a comment there? How many people are the real friends in your country? Will you address his or her name in mylot? I am just curious for that. Please share your comment here.

I tend to use the person's username nonetheless unless I am told to use their real name or feel comfortable with using their real name. Usually it will take a while of them responding, commenting or discussing with their signature being their name for me to even start using their real name. I have friends here that I know personally, my husband for instance, and I'll usually just say "hon" or "baby" or something like that.... or use his username when referring to him... but I won't use his real name.

starsailover, it is definitely better to make sure that the person is okay with using their real name, or else it's best to use the username. I do agree with that, I don't want anyone to be upset if we use their real name and they didn't really want that broadcasted, etc.

Hi some cow girl: if i met a real friend here on mylot i won't adress him/ her by their real name unless he/ she shows me that i can be that confident to him / her. Even with that i find that using the nicks chosen by the users is nice too, most of them are interesting or funny and are enough in this virtual world. Thanks for your answer.

I do exactly like you. There are members who use their real names or sign off with their real names, those people I address by their names. Or maybe some have become good friends with me and I know their real names…those people too, I address by their names

NO..I will not ..The reason is that I will not see the user name of the discussion starters or respondents in most of the cases..If we see their user name, and also if they are having good relationship with us in various on line activities, we may not be able to express our own views regarding the discussion issue, particularly if it is against their view..Because, I want to point my views strongly, what ever it may be..So I am not seeing the members...And hence, I will not be able to start my response or comment with their user name..But in some cases, some of the members used to make their responses under another responses..In that case, I will refer their user name while leaving some comments.

Hi sasalove, I will always start a response by addressing the person either by their user name or their name. If I haven't come across someone before it will be their user name. If it's someone I see regularly and they have a long user name I'll abbreviate it. There are quite a few I address by name though as we are in and out of each others discussions a lot.

hi, thea09, it doesn't matter whether they use their user name or their real mame. we know, name is only a symbol. if a person is good, kind, sincere, we will develop a friendship and i will write his address down in my notebook. when christmas is coming, i will post him a christmas card, wish him happy christmas. so, can we develop a friendship? haha... oh, happy happy everyday!

Hi Thea, Sometimes I just realized that it is not an English name, it is just a symbole that I don' t know whether I address it correctly or not. Just like your name, thea, what doesn't mean?

Hi sasalove, a different name is a good thing. Surely my name is not 'allknowing' (lol) But it does seem odd when we address members with their IDs which are not their real names. A the same time it does give a touch of friendliness and informality here. Some are so long that it kind of sounds funny but I suppose one can shorten them while addressing. I do address sometimes not as a rule but as an exception, whenever I am in a mood to do so. I have done it this time. Saw? (lol)

thanks for addressing me here. I love it. It is true that it will give a touch of friendliness and informality while addressing somebody. What is more, it will make us to remember the person who come to your discussion. I surely know that "allknowing" is not your name, but do you like people who address you like that? If not, why not change another one. I did not address you here as I am not sure if you like it or not.

Once we have chosen an ID it is there to stay and we can do nothing about it. I do not mind if you call me 'allknowing' or even for that matter 'timbaktu' if it pleases you as long as your intention is not to hurt me!

I only known 2 person real names here and the other is my referral. Whenever i reply to their discussion I use to address them with their real names and although i like to use their real names they would not like me to do so. As they are very keen with their own privacy. Thus, I respect their rights and prefer to address them with their user names. While, others insert their real names in replying to a discussion. Though, i address them with their name signature.

I Don't mind using my real name (which is Alyssa) but I rarely do. I don't really care if people on the internet know it, because it doesn't make me uncomfortable and I don't think it's a safety issue at all (after all - how many people in the world are named Alyssa? Millions I would assume). I don't sign it after each post, though, because that would honestly take forever! I'm fine with people referring to me by my username. Whichever. I think it's nice when people refer to you using your name or username - it's a nice, personal touch.

I don't really address a person when I am responding to a discussion. I don't really see much point in doing it. I guess it would be courteous if I started a reply that way. It's funny because some of the time they spell my name wrong. lol.

As people are from different countries, assumed that most of them used their own name rather than the English name here. The spelling of your name is complicated that I am not dare to address you in case any mistakes.

Hi sasalove: I have noticed that people do this and i used to address themselves by their names in this case. Even with that i don't find it that important. I'm starsailover in the eworld, period. Lol. XD. My real name's Alvaro, i love my name but my nick is special to me, it shows my love to one of my favorite underrated bands in the whole world: starsailor and that i'd love to know them one day. Thanks for posting.

Hi Starsailover, I think it will be better to call the nickname and I also use another name on the e world, saying I love others to call me sasa. Thanks for your response and have a nice day.

hi, sasalove, everyone has his own privacy. after all, internet is not real enough. few people is just cheat others online. in my opinion, we don't need to use our real names, because it doesn't matter whether it is a real name or a pseudonym one, name is only a symbol for us. for me, if he is kind, sincere, and want to be a friend of me, we will develop a friendship, i will address him.

i dont think it would not be proper to name any real names unless both partys new each other or if someone had a post so good someone important had to find a way to get a hold of them....

As I get to know more people in mylot I would use their name it shows respect for that person and you know that person has put some thought behind what they are saying rather than just commenting to earn money. But for me I have to get to know what people are like before I use their name.

I do not necessarily address a respondent to a discussion directly, not unless i can clearly decipher their names or if it were of importance. However, it is a great way of building intimate relationships and forging true friendships among other members of the site.

Actually I don't address the person while I respond to a discussion. Not because I'm rude but because I often forget :P. But I usually don't forget to put a Happy Mylotting at the end. Happy Mylotting!
