Returning to Further Education is a Better Way to Look for Work?

China

If we have a chance to make a choice between a good job and further education, for most people, they may tend to choose a good job instead of education. In fact, it is obvious that people have no interests in study and tired of continuing their education any more. But now, with the downturn of the economics, more and more people are becoming jobless. Although there is no great stigma associated with being laid off, most people want to hunt for a better job again. However, for keen competition, it is next to impossible for jobless people to find an approproate job. So, at this time, people return to further education in order to look for job. What is your opinion about this phenomenon? Do you have some friends who are jobless return to education just wanting for a better job?

yes, it will be an additional feather on your cap. go ahaead and take all the opportunities where you will gain more and advance your career. sometimes this is included in giving you a promotion, an additional salry or increase and other benefit having advance education. cheers!

An additional feather on your cap?it is really an appropriate analogy. Sometimes, perhaps returning to further education is becoming the last chance for jobless people to find a better job, especially during the downturn of the economics. If I have met such a so bad situation someday, I may tend to further education too even if I am tired of study. Thanks for your reply.

yes it is an additional "colored" feather on your cap--like having an award, exposure to international training and conferences, taking masteral and doctorate degree courses (further education as you termed it) and anything that will make you more bankable than the rest... thanks!

i have been in that sort of situation before, and to be honest i would have preferred to work than to go to school, but i had no choice. i believe that educating oneself is important, but what with the recession, it makes it tough to pay for the education, whilst working limited hours.

Yeah, for the long run, it is a better choice to continue further education. But for the slnmp of the economics, most people have to choose to work instead of education. But compared with people who are jobless, you are so lucky because those people have to return to education even if they are tired of study. Otherwise, thay may lose the last chance to hunt for a job.

My relative wanted to pursue further education. She worked for two years during which period she did one distance education degree, saved some money and now she joined proper college to do another useful degree. After this she wants to do doctorate in that subject. I feel it is thoughtful action.

At present, it is a wiser choice to continue education and then try to find a better job. If she want to hunt for job at first, perhaps she need to face various competition from many aspects, such as other jobless people, the graduates and so on. Wish her success. Happy myLotting!

I think i am going to futher my study first. Because in China, especially when I want to be a teacher in the future, I need a high degree. So I would rather get my degree before I go to work instead of trying to conitune my study while I am working.

Education is one of the source of acquiring knowledge. And most of that knowledge can be used in looking for a job. In short education is the key to success.

I do think alot of people are going back to school because they do not have a choice. The market is horrible and they need more schooling for the type of jobs that are open.

Unlike most people, when I planned a career, I chose to become prepared in several areas, not just one, most of which would be somewhat recession-proof. This was after hearing stories from older people who had lived through the 20's and 30's and they daily stressed the importance of putting a good education first. Then when times go bad one has resources to fall back upon. One cannot wait until one is jobless to make the changes necessary for a good life. One has to plan ahead.

I would say that it's always better to get an education as it were. I love to study! I never had the opportunity whilst at school, well let's just say that I came out with no qualifications! Now that I'm a grown man I have decided to make amends! I'm not working so while I'm not working I always think the best idea is to try and improve myself constantly through study. I know that things are difficult right now but if you have qualifications these will definitely help you to become noticed. When you study, this says a lot about you and believe you me it's all positive. It shows that you are committed and determined to improve yourself no matter what is going on in the world! Andrew

higher studies will be a better plan, but think of the amount of tution fees and others you gotta pay for going with your studies, most of the people, was not able to afford for graduating , then their next thing is to get a job, they can't shed any more to pursue studies.. in india the cost of education is very high..in foreign countries, the cost of education is very less, i'm telling for their country citizen and people..some countries offer free education(higher studies) will have an example, in united states, suppose the fees for doing M.S. per smester is approximately- $ 20,000 when it comes for our country men, they have to pay RS. 10,00000.. this is the difference... that is for M.S. now in our country education, for studying B.E., u have to spend 40,000 rupees for tution fees alone, for one year.. so the cost is very high in our country, so many go to take jobs..

I think furthering one's education to qualify for the jobs that are in higher demand today is an excellent idea. It is perhaps the only hope for some, so I commend those who take that route. Karen

It is true that people enroll in a continuing program of education for them to have a better job, a high chance of being employed in a company and of course for a much higher salary/compensation. Education is a continuous process, meaning people do not need to enroll in a educational program or enroll in an institution just to get educated. Well for those people who can afford a quality education why not? but is it really needed? is it a need? or a privilege? In the present world economic condition, i don't think so... people can be educated in many ways by they're own. They can learn by reading books, surfing the net, watch t.v., read magazine, read news papers, playing games and etc. So many mediums to learn and study. That's why for me the real problem here is the people itself. So what? if they are not finish with their studies? So what if they only finished college degree not a post grad. or doctorate degree? They can still have better job! They can still find jobs that will make them live the life that they wanted. But the question is how? Simple! People need to be more aggressive when looking jobs, People need to show that they are capable and committed to the work that is being offered, people need to show that they are willing to learn, people need to show that they are determined to give their very best for the job. here is a simple scenario, 2 man is applying for a job in a company... The company only needs one that will do the job, the 1st man have masters degree and even have much more experienced than the other man, the 2nd man only finishes college and only have 2 years of experience, guess what?! the 2nd man is the one who have been hired by the company. Why? because this man done his very best in the recruitment process... Yes the other also but this man is really different, he proves that it's not the experience and the education that matters, but it's how a people can do the job, how an individual can handle the job, how a people can give effective and efficient service, and most important of it how he is determined to dedicate himself for the organization. He show the company that he can be an asset of the organization not a liability! That goes for the jobless. And for those who doesn't want to get laid off to their job... The best thing to do is to show the company that you are determined to help the organization to put them on top of the line, Show the company that you are capable and committed to your job, Show loyalty, and Most of all love and enjoy the job. have some quotes here: for learning: The amount of effort you exert = to the amount of knowledge that you gain - The amount of knowledge you gain = to the amount of success that an individual will gain. for work: The amount of effort an individual exert = to the amount of praises that you will gain from your superiors and the company = to great rewards and the life that you are dreaming... hardships = success there is no success without hardships...

When I was 20 years old I was working for a ship brokers as a container marketing controller. Sadly I was made redundant. So I let out my home and got a working holiday visa for Australia. Whilst there I worked as a children's nanny and I began dreaming about possibly becoming a primary school teacher. When I came home just over one year later I went into further education to get an A level in English Literature and a General Certificate of Education in Maths. Those qualifications and experience helping out at a primary school helped me get on to a degree course. I am now a primary school teacher. So therefore I would say further education can help someone that loses their job and has to move into a different field of work.

I think many people would go back to school and train for a new profession if they could afford it. When they were working, many people have just enough to get by and nothing extra for tuition. When they lose their job, they have no money at all and can't even make ends meet so where will they get money to pay for school?! It's a vicious cycle. We had a "stimulus" that spent billions and we "saved or created" jobs--each of those jobs cost us taxpayers $230,000!!! Better to give out of work people that money to put them through school and support them as they learn, then we'll truly have improvement.

I think that part of the problem today is that too many people are competing for too few jobs. At least in certain career areas. Everybody wants a high paying white collar job and with globalization there are just to few of them. Other career paths, which may also pay extremely well, cannot find enough people to fill positions. These are the trade/technical positions. The electricians, plumbers, carpenters, mechanical and service fields. There are plenty of jobs in these fields, most requiring minimal education. My son opted to go to a good technical school after high school, and majored in collision repair. After a one year course, he is happily employed and making more money than many college graduates with advanced degrees.

hello get browser I don't know, it needs more money, time and resources to get into this another further education thing. well, i congratulate for those who had secondary education right after getting a college degree but as for me, i think it's a lot more expensive than it's supposed to.some have done it and get barely the job they need from that additional education.

It's amazing for me to read this post(some of ur posts in fact),coz I can not find even slightest sign to figure out that ur native tongue is not English. Now back to ur point. I think I'm the one belongs to the crowd that will not continue education. Firstly,I'm a guy likes to face the reality,I take going back to school as a negative way to handle with the tasks that we encounter. Scendonly,I assume that walking on the common steps is one of expressions that show u are mediocre and piontless. SO,I'd rather fig out method to solve with it even that will trap me into another task.
