I am always cooking too much rice for a meal whenever I cook it. I can't seem to cook small portions! A friend of mine told me that you can't reheat cooked rice. Is this true? If so why not? I don't understand why you can't she just said its bad to do so. I have thrown away a lot of rice because I thought I couldn't re-heat it.

Carmelbg- I typically don't reheat old rice, but what I do is cook it in fried rice. It is easy to make, and takes care of day old rice! I open it up for all veggies, but there are many great online recipes for variations on standards fried rice. You also do not need to have a wok to do so either. Any large pan can be used. My suggestion though is to invest in a rice cooker. This way you get exactly the amount of rice you want for the meal, and it cooks perfectly. I've had one for years now and wouldn't go back to rice the old fashioned way unless I had to. Happy Mylotting. Namaste-Anora

I have been reheating rice for a long time. As you said it's hard to cook a small amount. I cook it until it's almost done then freeze what I don't think I'll use and finish cooking what I will use. I do the same thing with pastas. Rice is frozen for microwave or TV dinners all the time. The same with pastas. I don't like to freeze my pastas with any sauce because it soaks it up and then when reheated it's too soft and dry.

If we have leftover rice we reheat it or fried it for breakfast. It is so disapppointing to throw food because some people experienced hunger. As long as the rice is not spoiled you can reheat it or make a new dishes out of it.

I have the same problem. I always cook to much. I have never saved it I always give the rest to the dogs because rice is good for them. I dont see why you couldnt save it and use it again tomorrow. I wouldnt let it stay in the fridge cooked for more than a day though I would imagine it would get soggy. ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always!~ Copper

Your friend is very wrong. I usually cook for just myself and I deliberately cook too much rice. I can then have rice the next day and use up my leftover vegetables and meat. I freeze the remainder of the rice so I can always have it on hand. So many recipes call for cooked rice so it makes it so much faster to do the dish if I already have the rice cooked.

I thought it was very strange and asked why I couldn't re-heat it and she says it bad for you to eat it. After reading all these posts I am annoyed I listened to her and wasted so much rice! Never again.

Are you kidding I alway reheat rice. I just add a little bit of water and nuke it. I have no problem with it and it still taste just as good as the first time I made it. Why does your friend say its not good to re-heat?

Yes, Of course, You can. When you reheat rice , you can add some water and some salt and boil it for few minutes until the water boils. And then you can drain the water. This rice reheated with salt will stay for a long time without getting spoiled. You can try.

Hi Friends, There is also one more thing you can do, if u cook more rice and if you dont feel like reheating it, u can take that rice, add some salt and chilli powder and just grind it in a mixer or grinder for a second and you can make small balls out of the paste you get. And these balls can be dried in the sun, (make sure the balls you make are small, so that the rice paste should be completely dried till the inside). And then once it is dried it will be very crispy, and you can fry these balls in oil, And these will be like fried chips, And this will be very crispy and tasty too. You can have this as snacks and also can be had with any food items.

Sure rice can be reheated. If I am going to use the rise the very next day. I place on the first shelf of the refrigerator in a bowl not the colander. If kept in colander the bottom of rice gets hardened. If I need in 2-4 days I place in the freezing compartment, then on removing immediately to microwave a reheat for 15-20 mins. If unfrozen about 5-10 mins. My mother told me a trick she saw done- if the rice is not sufficient and you are preparing more then when the set inthe pot is almost done just add the older set in and strain.I have never tried it however but does make sense.

Yes, you can re-heat rice. I always put the extra in a zip bag and re-heat it in the micro. If too dry add a little water to bring back the moisture.

Smart use of the zip bag, not used these in the microwave before. Thanks!

yes you can re-heat rice in a microwave oven or re-create it in another form like fried rice by adding bits of garlics, onion, carrots, green peas, and meat to make it tasty.

I almost always reheat rice if I have too much. I actually find that it doesn't get soggy... it gets dry. So to prevent the dryness, I get less than a teaspoon of water and sprinkle it over the rice before I heat it up. It helps re-steam the rice in the microwave if that makes sense. Or I fry it up with some soy sauce and egg to make fried rice. Either way, rice is totally reheat-able!

Yes I have reheated rice loads of times. We tend to use mostly brown rice and if there is too much, as there usually is, we put it in the fridge and then reheat it for the next meal. It tastes a little different sometimes, but it adds variety! Derek

Rice is one of the few things I reheat at the microwave oven. In two minutes you have your rice as good as just done. It´s a pity that you threw away your rice. Besides just heating, there´s a lot of ways to use it if the leftovers are not enough. I like it very much as an omelette or tortilla. I don´t turn it but put a cover over the skillet. I like to put some slices of cheese when I have some. I also use it when I make lentils or to add to a broth to make a soup. You don´t have to have uncooked rice for that: you just put it at the end of the cooking period. I hope this helps. Happy posting!

Of course you can reheat rice there is nothing wrong with doing that. You just have to keep turning ie always so that it does not get burned or alternatively, use a microwave

I've reheated rice for about as long as I can remember. I remember when I was a child and we'd have rice for dinner, my mother would refridgerate the left over rice and then the following morning she would heat it up with milk, sugar and raisins and make breakfast for us. In our home, however, we eat a lot of rice and when we have left over I will refridgerate it until the next time that we are having a meal with rice. The taste of it doesn't change and I just hate to waste food.

yes .. we can reheat the rice.In a rice cooker pour some water and keep the rice in a closed vessel. The water gets heats up which in turn heats the cooked rice. You can use the pressure cooker also. Hope the microwave oven also helps for this. Is this reply useful to u.
