I visited my counsellor last week and we talked about ways to improve my life and she decided that I should include more fun time into my days, in fact she could not believe that I couldn’t even whistle with my fingers!(LOL) She said that we should all make some time for fun every single day and that is my challenge until I see her again. She said we make food, we make love etc but we forget to include making fun on a regular basis. So help me out here guys what do you do for fun? How do you make fun every day?

I think we certainly need fun in our lives. I think my idea of fun would be enjoying myself like going for a walk, or cycle or jog, swim, enjoying activities with friends and family members and many more.. Fun can be healthy too, and I always try to inculcate that to my daily life, wherever I can get some free time.

That's one good way to exercise. Going for slow walks, and to gradually increase the pace right up to brisk walks. As long as it's a walk, it's healthy enough...good for you, Paula..

The trick is to find fun that is also good for us. We've started going for long walks with our dog in the evening now that the warm weather is finally arrived in Western Australia; we talk, we laugh and our daughter rides her bike. We come home tired but relaxed and who knows we may even get a little fitter including the dog! Thanks for being here zed!

I come here. Really, I do. I enjoy the conversations - like this one - and don't respond to ones that might cause me to get into a frustrating argument... I don't like to argue...

I'm not one for arguing either and I avoid it whenever I can. MyLot is definitely on my list of fun things in my life, that's for sure and I am so thankful I found this site. I had no idea when I joined how much it would change my life for the better! Thanks for the response ElicBxn!

Play games. Watch comedy movies and try to mimic the actors. Face paint each other. Try to cheat while playing cards. Learn a couple of simple magic tricks and try to amaze each other. Try caricaturing each other. Try piggy back. Try to search for the non existent lice in each other's hair. Try wearing each others' cloths and act like that person. Try responding to discussions like these giving wild and spintaneous ideas that come into your head.

It is call "hobby" darling. Life is meaningless without a hobby. When your day work is done... - It give you something to do... - It give you something to enjoy - It give you something to think about And it relieve the loneliness if your friends or partenaire in life are not around. The majority of people live such a busy life... that they reckon they don't have time for a hobby... or that it is a waste of time. Time is money they say. They are very wrong. A hobby will keep you sane. Partying with friends is not a hobby. Getting drunk on Saturday night is not a hobby. A hobby is something which last for ever and is always there for you. It won't argue with you... and it won't betray you. It won't leave you for someone else either. Your hobby is your best friend. What hobby you choose is entirely up to you. Nobody can choose a hobby for you. If you cannot think of one... it is because you are not ready for one.

Very good answer Aussies and I agree with it. I feel very passionate about my writing and my books and I am never bored. I think my counsellor may have been referring to letting your hair down kind of fun. She talked a lot about the child in all of us and how important a sense of humour is. I like your comparison of a hobby to a best friend...Thanks for sharing your views, appreciate it!

Ah?! Really? You like cleaning the house? I really envy you since I find it soooo boring. I especially hate cleaning the floor. I try to invite people hove quite often since having guests is the only thing that actually makes me clean the house thoroughly. And I love cooking and experimenting new dishes and desserts.

It doesn't sound like much but I have fun. I hope you find some fun things that make your heart sing, it's usually the simple things... Thanks for responding AmbiePam!

I used to be able to whistle with my fingers, but after having a couple teeth removed to facilitate realignment via braces, I can't anymore.

Maybe i should take a page from this counselor book..I don't do alot of things for fun unless it is doing my crafts, watching television, grabbing a good book..or playing online games. Other wise no going out and having fun.. I hope others will give you some good ideas.. I am answering from email inbox so not sure what ideas you received yet..I would like to go out bowling or to a movie maybe once in a while mostly I'm a homebody though.

Maybe going to a few parties..going dancing would be the thing..ever try Karaoke? I don't have any kids..but I am around them everyday since they live all around me and I see my little sister several times a week and I do get to be a little silly with her..she likes to dance..and do the hokey pokey.. and of course she says she can't do it alone so there I am..putting this and that in and out..lol and wiggling as I turn my self about.. and she loves it which makes me smile seeing her have fun..

If the things you describe are what you enjoy then there's your fun, although my counsellor was referring to letting your hair down and acting silly type fun that we don't do enough of! If you have children there's your perfect excuse for having fun like a kid again! Thanks for being here mtdewgurl74, I appreciate your response!

Oh boy! *sigh* And I was banking on you to pass on some tips which I thought that counselor had shared with you…fun time for me???!!!! Where is ‘me’ time for most ladies that we can convert them to fun times? Whatever time I get for myself, I spend on catching up on things I like doing…reading books and mags, surfing net (without interruption from father-son duo), shopping, TV, lazying around…but hey! Cant these be fun too? I mean if I am enjoying myself doing these things, aren’t they my fun things? What do you think…what does the counselor say on such things or does she have any specific definition of fun things?

She says, and I agree with her, that whatever makes your heart sing is what is fun for you and if it is not hurting you or anybody else you are quite entitled to keep doing it no matter how strange, weird or boring it is to other people. She is teaching me all about finding your authentic self and doing away with the masks that we wear during our lives. I enjoy talking to her and, the way I see it, if I retain even only one percent of what she tells me I have gained more than what I had when I started!

What's wrong with not being able to whistle with your fingers? I can't do it, also, and I live quite happily myself (I'm lying, when I was young I tried a lot and it bothered me that I couldn't do it, and I found it quite rude of your counsellor to point it out...). It sounds like the suggestion is to find something that could make you laugh, feel happy and relax. That could be a hobby, or some group activities or reading books or watching films. I like reading comics, cooking and watching films, and all of the three things help me out in different ways. Cooking help me relax, reading is good when I am in a bad mood or sad. Films... almost in all cases, it depends on the genre... I guess you should try various different things in order to discover new ways of having fun. sometimes we have expectations about some activities but the reality is different.

Is it possible that your counsellor has not a clear image of how you are with others? I guess our relations outside are difficult to recreate in a one-to-one formal discussion. Sorry my English is bad, I'm not sure I expressed myself right. What I mean is, she coul think of you as someone who "doesn't understand a joke" because you seem serious in your conversations, but instead your sense of humour is somhow more refined (some jokes sometimes are so obvious that you just "forget" to laugh...). Your friends would know, but she couldn't since she doesn't see you in your normal life. That's my personal opinion, though, and it could be totally wrong. I really hope you will soon find a way out of the bad period you seem to be experiencing. I'm sure you are stronger than you think yourself. Happy mylotting :o)

You may be right XiaoLin, I think she is referring to allowing ourselves to just be silly sometimes and let go of our daily stresses and come to think of it she has not seen me with my little daughter, I can get pretty silly!

True...I'm not so sure why she referred to whistling with your fingers, I hope there's a method in her madness! I do have a lot of things that I enjoy doing and I am the type of person who is rarely bored. My counsellor may have been referring to seeing humour in things and viewing the world as a child would, I suspect, which is a lot easier to do when you resolve issues that are bothering you, I think. I do have a pretty good sense of humour as my friends tell me and I'm sure I'll snap out of this bad spell and enjoy life a lot more. See? I feel better already! Thank you very much for a great response XiaoLin!

Hello Paula. If i am alone i have several ways of enjoying myself and having fun - reading a book i like, playing on the computer, watching a movie or episode of one of my favorite series. I could also go to the hypermarket near me and look at the new stuff they have and maybe buy something good to eat and enjoy. When not alone, i would include love making as a way to have fun as well, also going to the cinema, museums, zoo, parks, theaters

I can have fun anytime whether I'm alone or with company. I rarely get bored because there are many things I enjoy doing that I seldom get time for. I love watching movies and reading is one of my passions. Making love and getting out and about are great too just not at the same time (LOL)! Thanks for the response elitess!

Hi paula, I just read one response that said having a hobby is a fun thing to do [ which it is of course] but to me a hobby is a relaxing pastime, I do crosswords, read and do gardening as a hobby and unless I see someting funny I Am not having a very good laugh. I think what your counsellor means is that what you need is to have some fun and I mean real fun. Go dancing with your friends[ if you like dancing] or go for a walk and try to see things in a funny way, fly a kite! and laugh at your self for been silly, put music on and go to some website that have funny jokes and laugh with gusto, or just get a comedy DVD and watch it, or get to a karaokey site and sing along [ I do that with my daugther some times] Now Im 64 and she is 31 and we have a great time! is fun, is silly but who cares! the fact is we are having fun and that is what is all about I make sure to have a good laugh every day and that keeps me healthy and in good mood every day.

I have archery as a sport, which I use to wind down and relax. This is not the most fun thing in the world, but I do enjoy it and have some fun times. Another way that I like to have fun is to act like a kid and play games with my kids! I like to go skateboarding with my son and have scooter races with him and play basketball with him and my daughter. I love to act like a kid on our trampoline with our kids too! After I do some of these things though, my body usually reminds me that I am not a kid anymore...lol

Having children is the perfect excuse to act like a child again.I used to take my daughter to the fun places with the climbing frames, slides etc and I would climb, slide, jump etc with her until my back would give in or I would pull a muscle! Thanks RawBill, archery sounds great, thanks for the response!

You are most welcome Paula. Just yesterday, I took my kids to a local park that had been rebuilt and found myself flying along down the flying fox like a kid screaming "LOOK OUT" at all the other parents who were not watching where they were going and walking in front of me!

Hi paula 27661, My definition fun is something that makes you laugh releasing the "happy" hormones. This could be from going to see a comedy show with a friend or jogging on a trail until you are exhausted. If you can find anything outside of work and sitting home eating that makes you laugh and want to continue that happy feeling, do it again and again. Writing here makes me laugh, definitely reading some of these posts make me laugh out loud, even when I am alone in the house. Having fun is a good medicine.

Your counselor what? decided for you? Uhm.. i am also a counselor and decicding for someone is a no no in guidance and counseling it's one of the rules and proper method in couseling. Anyway we are only humans and we commit mistakes.Okay uhm.. fun everyday? What do you think are the things that makes you happy? Then if you know the answers? Do you think it would be best if you those things often? Making food and Making love is also happiness in fact making love is a hell of a happiness. Being with someone you love and doing things that you both like and enjoy is happiness. Satisfying your self for something that you really want to do is happiness, playing with your love ones is happiness and most of all having the opportunity of living in this planet is happiness. So now, what do you think? Hope my response helps. Good day!

Taking time for Fun? This is an interesting thought for sure. I do know we often get so busy with our lives, that we forget about doing something Fun for sure. I know for me, not everyday but a lot of the time, I will take time to log off from here and go to http://king.com and play some of the games there, or I will go Bowl on our WII or something like that, so to me that is getting out of the norm of everyday life and doing something Fun without having to spend any extra $$ doing so as well. I hope you are succeeding with yours as well.

If whistling with one's fingers was a requirement in life many people would fail and most likely never have any fun. Fun is anything you do to enjoy yourself that gives you pleasure and does not harm another person. It can be something simple like listening to music or looking at flowers.
