The Mayan Prophecy of 2012

I watched the BBC documentary series on the Mayan Prophecy of 2012 with a growing sense of awe and unease. Could these highly advanced people who are known to have been the greatest of mathematicians be wrong about 2012? It seems the Maya point to a sudden shift in the axis which could reverse the poles. This will take place when earth swings too close to the great Black Hole in the centre of our galaxy. There is scientific support for this theory - an alignment of planets that will bring us dangerously close to the black hole the Maya speak of. They mention that half the world will starve and be drenched in blood. But it's not the end of the world. According to the Maya, after the final catastrophe, a new golden age will dawn - a new cycle- with people much more spiritually aware. What do you think?

Good lord this is one of the worst ones yet. Ok, lets start with this first: " There is scientific support for this theory - an alignment of planets that will bring us dangerously close to the black hole the Maya speak of" No there isn't any scientific support for this. The mayans didn't speak of any "black hole", the mayans didn't even know an astronomical object called a black hole existed. In fact, they knew nothing of astronomy that they didn't observe with the naked eye. There is no planetary alignment due anytime in the next 10,000 years or so. I did a run up a while ago of the planetary orbits and sorry, no alignment of more than 2 or so planets due any time soon. even if there was, even if all the planets in the solar system were to line up withg each other in a direct straight line, it would do NOTHING to us, it would have no effect whatsoever. So no, there is no scientific basis in that at all. Also, the nearest black hole to our own solar system is roughly 1600 light years away, (not the one at the centert of our galaxy) not exactly what you could call close enough t have any effect on our own solar system, even if the planets all lined up tomorrow. even at at light speed (an impossibility in itself), it would take over 1000 years to get anywhere near us. Now.... "Could these highly advanced people who are known to have been the greatest of mathematicians be wrong about 2012" the short answer to this is....NO. They weren't really what you call "advanced" and they weren't the greatest mathematicians ever either (that would have been the early greeks, pythagorus, mobius, etc) and the only thing they knew was what they observed with the naked eye, again, this is way over hyped and romanticized. Then there's this: " It seems the Maya point to a sudden shift in the axis which could reverse the poles. This will take place when earth swings too close to the great Black Hole in the centre of our galaxy" There is no such thing as the earths axis shifting on it's poles, it has never happened. Do you understand what it would take to do this? We have never even come close in astronomical terms, to the center of our galaxy, in fact, we are about 36,000 light years from the center of our galaxy, even if we began the jounrey now, at light speed (see my note above on this) it would take 36,000 years to get there in a straight line. Agian, this is impossible. Watch every "documentary" on the Mayans, not with awe and unease, but with a healthy skeptisism and armed with real knowlege of astronomy and physics (neither of which the Mayans had), it is hype and myth. the Mayan calender doesn't "end", it does the same thing our calenders do every year, we just go out and get a new one to begin the new year. CRIPE I can't wait for 2013 to get here so this nonsense will hopefully disapear from the internet.

Wow! What an explanation! Many people seemed to be happy in scaring us with their documentaries/prophecies which have no basis at all. What scares me most and we should all do, are the prophecies in Revelation of the Holy Bible. Some prophecies have happened while others are yet to come. The time has not known only the Holy GOD but the signs were given in Matthew 24. We should surrender to GOD so that we are prepared when the time comes.

Check it out yourselves. Watch History Channel's documentary on the Mayan 2012 Prophecy on YouTube and you'll get all the answers. By the way, the Mayan calendar had predicted accurately the coming of the Spanish Conquistadors -- and the exact date too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR-ig1zWus0
