Do You Set Goals For Yourself?

With the New Year just around the corner here in the US, I am sure soon people will start thinking of New Year's resolutions and things they would like to see happen or accomplished for them in 2010. Maybe you set New Years resolutions for 2009 and have seen some of them happen while others you gave up any hope on almost from the start as well. But what I am referring too from here, is more than this. I am referring to personal Goals or Dreams and desires that you might have set up for yourself that you would Love to see get fulfilled as well. Maybe it is to Read the Bible thru, or Go Back To School and get your GED, or Bachelors or just an associates degree as well. Or maybe it is to buy a New home or car, or work on getting out of debt more as well. Personally I think we can all benefit from setting goals in our life, and having dreams on things we would Love to see accomplished. I know I have some that I am in the process of working on, and others newly accomplished. But no matter what happens even if I find myself failing, I know I am still in control as well. So what about you? Do you have Goals or are you just one who tends to go with the flow letting things happen and deal with it from there? ~~TINA~~

I prefer to let my life run away without a plan. I am often disappointed with the plan I've made. plans are not always as expected. I more often get lucky without thinking about goals. I have been more comfortable like this.

Hi indahfth. Erma Bombeck wrote a book entitled, "Life is What Happens When You're Busy Making Other Plans." I LOVE that title because it's so true! Plans often go awry. The trick is to enjoy the journey, not the destination. You have the right attitude, in my opinion, anyway.

Somebody told me several years ago back when I was painting shirts that he learned that things don't always turn out the way you plan them. I had painted a shirt at the time that I didn't think turned out right. I was told that I had painted an original, though. Kathy.

Well, many times our lives do flow better without making plans, but sometimes making plans, or at least having ideas is a Good way to start even if it is not always a Goal.

hi tina I am seriously thinking of really getting that ugly fat off me, and getting my blood glucose r eadings down to normal , I think I can do it if I really really try. also learn to think positively, and do more writing, and think oh sure somebody will buy this. Maybe those are dreams but yet I could make them come true, perhaps.

Well, from someone who is Diabetic, and insulin dependent to boot I know that there are often a lot of factors that play a part in glucose readings but if you really learn to take part in what effects yours you can really go somewhere with making this type of wish for yourself for sure. Wishing you the Best.

I do NOT make new year resolutions, but I am a goal-setting fanatic. I have long-range goals detailed on my white board. I have detailed steps to attain those goals, with progress bars and dates. Every morning, my first job when starting work is to re-write my priorities list, with my daily goals, and I monitor it throughout the day. Surveys show that only 3% of people have goals and write them down. Another 10% have goals and plans but keep them in their head. 87% drift through life without definite plans. The 3% who have goals and write them down accomplish 50 to 100 times more than the 10% who have goals but do NOT write them down. So, yes, I have specific, measurable goals with steps towards achievement.

Yes, I am involved in 4 projects this month. I am doing Nanowrimo, a short story contest, a 30 poems in 30 days fund raiser for The Center for New Americans, a cool nonprofit near where I live, and a self inflicted 100 poems in 100 days featuring 100 prompts from my favorite local poet. I'm also posting here and at Blogit, another site I write for.

I try to. But I set realistic goals which I think I will be able to achieve. Although the goals seem impossible or a bit hard, I'll still try, as long as they are within the realistic realm. It seems so fast that 2010 is fast approaching; never really realizing it at all.

Yes . I usually set a very big goal which I think I will realize my dream. Absolutely, setting a goal can make us chase for our dream and make our life more significant. I do think everyone should have a goal.

it's hard first it became a dream, then you try to make it a reality which is hard because they're a lof of obstacles to deal with. but i agree with this discussion, there should be a goal so that you will have a chance to succeed in life, otherwise, you won't learn from your mistakes if it fails.

Yeah. Maybe at first the dream will be difficult for me to realize. But if I never give up. I think will succeed in the end .

I do have goals I strive for....since I was very young I wanted to be a writer....and now I have three books out...not without wanting to give up.....not without people giving me a hard time....sometimes reaching goals are very hard...but my motto is never, never ever give up! And that is very hard not to do at times....there is a song out right now that Carrie Underwood sings that is so encouraging....not sure of the name but when I hear the words it's so uplifting...

Well I haven't officially set goals per say. I'd love for my husband and I to be in our dream doublewide this time next year, well technically from our wedding day I've had this goal. I'd love to be able to purchase all of the things that my husband and I want as well as need also. Be able to get most of the things we'll ever need in one year, besides groceries of course that we'd get on a weekly or bi weekly basis. Of course bills would follow under, well you know what I mean, the basic needs that don't need to be replenished or refurbished often if at all! I know it's a really high goal, but I think if we start saving after christmas, and we mylot to our heart's content, as well as doing the sites that gives us gift cards, we'll be able to accomplish this very well for sure.

The one goal I usually set for myself is to become more healthy, whether that means losing weight which I need to do or just eating more healthy. I reached that goal this year, I've lost weight and gotten more healthy and I feel alot better than I did before, and I plan on keeping that goal into the next year. I would like to lose more weight and to keep it off.

I set goals for myself but never make New Year's resolutions. It puts too much pressure on a person, I think. My goals have no deadline, no date to be done by. When I set goals, I begin working on them right away and they'll get done when they get done. Life is short and I don't want to be stressing over reaching deadlines. I'm just happy to be alive each day. I try every day to be the best person I can be and am always open to improving myself, so I have no real need for New Year's resolutions.

I do set some goals in my life. I set them for how much I earn each month online. I try to always do better than the previous month - but that does not always happen. I try to set long term goals in life but the downturn of the economy has changed all of those goals. Now I basically try to survive.

Yes I have goals, we all should set goals for ourselves. It gives us something to work for, to stive for. I recently fulfilled one of my goals and I was so happy and excited about it, I stated a discussion about it. About a year ago, I set out to be a power seller on ebay, I did that. Now recently they made some changes and added Top Rated Seller Status, I set a goal that I would be that. I did it two nights ago. I know some people don't understand how important that is, but if your a seller on ebay you know. it takes alot of time and work to be a power seller and then to be a top rated seller on top of that, woohooo..

People all over the world treat the new year as the new beginning and they set resolution for that. But I don't do that at least not because its a new year. I mean you can set goals for yourself any day of the year, just to make your goals sound special people set it in the new year. My advice would be not to set goals specially because its a new year.

With every new year, I would make all of these wonderful resolutions for my life. I don't think there's a single one that i completely followed through with. I always had good intentions to fulfill these resolutions. i think that maybe i was just setting too high a goal to obtain,. When the goal was too much for me, i gave up.
