Can you think of a living creature which do not have any purpose here on Earth?

My daughter ask me, "Dad, if the mosquito only brings diseases and death to us, then why God have to make them in the first place?". Do you think its an easy question coming from a 4th grade students, you might think. But it makes me think two minutes before giving her an answer. "Mosquitoes do bring diseases and deaths to us, but they can be also a source of food for many small animals such as lizards, spiders and frogs. Thats there main purpose here on Earth. With this very noble purpose, they bring a well-balanced ecosystem. What happen when there are no mosquitoes? small animals may die as well as the large ones who depends on them as source of food. A chain reaction would happen and eventually Mother nature would suffer". A long answer for a simple question, and hopefully I get it right? Her next question though is even tougher, "Is there any living things that God created who do not have a purpose here on Earth?". I haven't got the answers yet, but maybe you guys and gals can help.

How about cockroaches? Do they also have a purpose? I understand that mosquitoes could be food for some other creatures, but are cockroachs also food for other bigger creatures? I am not contesting the idea that everything has its purpose, but can anyone tell me then what is a cockroach for?

cockroaches are natures garbage men, sanitizers if you will, they eat the stuff no one else will and yes they to are part of the food chain.

First, i want to say that you have a very clever daugther. You must be happy with that. I think you gave the right answers for her first question. For the next question, i remember some point of the lecture i've ever joined. Only human beings have the purpose for themselves of their existence. The other things (living or unliving things) have the purpose of their existence but not for themselves. They have purposes of their existence for the sake of others, as you've said as chain reactions. The fact belongs to all things in the universe (not only on earth) altough we don't have complete knowledge about everything and their purposes.

The purpose of human beings for themselves is just a matter of being selfish, words created by same human like us that who only think for themselves. Have you ever think of your purpose in life in this planet? Have you ever think why you are born? Do you know the real purpose of human beings in life? Humans are the highest form of living things in the planet, if other lower creatures do have purpose for this world, then what more humans? Humans have free will and the ability to think and create things that is unimaginable, the only problem is that, we people use that only for our selves, we do not know the real meaning of life and the real purpose of being here in this planet. Humans knowledge are very young and it needs more nourishment and super intelligence to understand how things need to be done.

It may appear sometimes that some creatures have absolutely no purpose to serve other than being pests but I'm sure there are and we may not know it yet. This brings to mind the body's appendix which a lot of people say has no purpose whatsover. But medical science after studying the same say that indeed it has a purpose in absorbing some body's infections. I'm sure that the creator of life has a design and purpose for everything and many of these are still unknown to us. What is obvious to us is the balance of nature and the food chain but there might be something deeper.

Pretty good answer you got for her first question. For the next one, just like the first responses, God made sure that every creature or even those non living things have a purpose. The rocks, the trees, the oceans, if we don't have this things we won't live just like the fishes needs the ocean, the land animals need land and forest, these things only proved that we have a God because everything is in order. Happy mylotting!

Hello Fulltank, i believe there should not need be a reason for an animal or plant to be existent. Perhaps there may be a creature on Earth God created that does not have a purpose but what does it matter? It all seems that philosophy drives us to seek the truth and knowledge but questions such as that i believe does not need an answer to.

I do agree with your answer to her first question. As for the next question, I believe that everything on Earth has a purpose. Even the smallest things that seem to only cause despair must also have a reason for being here. We might not be able to see it clearly, but their purpose must be there. . .
