Nowadays it has become common giving pocket money from a small kid to a college going student. Is it necessary for a school going kid to give money daily providing everything what ever they want. Many parents are also encouraging this. Iam seeing getting money in hundreds to school buying this and that useless stuff...Doesn't lead this to a wrong path ofcourse not all.....okay it's acceptable occasionally like some important days that too under our guidance...what do you feel?...once if we start giving in the middle if we won't they start feeling that we are not caring for them or neglecting as they have got accustomed to that and sometimes even they start demanding....this may lead to many negative things like doing thefts...in own house...I think that everything should be in limits....thank u....

My mom gave my brother and me lunch money. Used it to buy comic books, games, and cds. Those were the good old days.

I think its good to give your school aged children pocket money before going to school. You never know when they may need it or they may even use it for recreational uses. My parents used to always give me a little money now and then when I was in school. It was for if I may have saw something in the snack machine at school that I wanted to buy or if for emergencies. Such as if someone may have forgotten to pick me up from school, I missed the school bus, or if I had to stay a little bit later at school. I could use the money to make a phone call home. Or if on my way home I had decided to stop and get a snack with friends. So yeah, I think that it is a good idea that parents give their children money for school. You never know when the money might come in handy. I'm not saying though to give your kids a large amount of money, but just enough for that day. Or even for a week. Thats something my parents always did. Gave me enough, including change, just in case phone calls needed to be made.

My parents used to give me school money ever since I started schooling if I ever wanted to buy some snacks or drinks. I would give my child a little bit of pocket money, if I had one. Just enough to buy some food to eat but not too much that he or she would waste it. I would also use it as a tool to start teaching my child money management because that's how my mother taught my brother and I. She actually would give us school money but if we wanted anything else like toys, we had to save up for it. She wouldn't even buy us candy bars. We needed to save up our own allowances for that, too.

Yeah, I give some pocket money to my cousin because they just can't earn money by themselves yet. Thailand of course doesn't have the freedom to earn good money like developed countries such as the US so letting the school boys get jobs will be risky.

I totally agree. There should be a limit to what kids get. Wait, there already is!! It's called an allowance! It's weird to see my younger siblings pine for monet and get it on demand, when I had to earn it doing odd jobs around the house as a kid. I only earned ten cents a job, too! I think an acceptable allowance for an eight to twelve year old is around ten to twenty dollars a week.

In my case, money is necessary to go to school. So during my time when I was still going in college, I was given money for fair and food since our house is far away from the University and I have cannot go home for lunch. The pocket money I get everyday was just enough for fare and food. I always make sure that I do not waste a single cent. I come from a poor family and there is not much to spend to with those useless things. I think it is okay for our child to have money for as long as we monitor what they are using it for. So when my child later on reaches college, I will be providing him money, but such will be just good enough for his needs.

I think money management is something a young kid in say classes VIII and above should know. They should get some pocket money but not a whole lot. They are to be told to use it wisely for they are not going to get any more and have to manage within that. Everybody has desires to buy something out of his own money and we should not discourage them totally but I am also of the opinion that it should be absolutely within limits. My parents did the same and I remember I used to save up for special occasions and felt great happiness when I was able to purchase something through those savings.

I dont think it is necessary to give money to children since it will only spoil them.they will even feel superior to others who dont bring money in school.I think parent should not encourage this practice, rather they should tell them the importance of money.they can provide them with the lunch of their choice so they will feel bad about it.
