I'm a pin keep artist and craft junkie extraordinaire. I've been crafting nearly my whole life. When I was young, we didn't always have a lot of money, so handmade gifts were a very important part of my life. Not only did I learn to make many different things, I learned the true value of a handmade gift. The love that goes into a handmade item, as well as the effort and talent it takes, is phenomenal! This is what makes handmade gifts such treasures to me, because it means someone cared enough to gift me with a little bit of himself so to speak. I find it very rewarding to share myself with loved ones in the same manner. Please share your opinions of handmade gifts here, won't you? I'd love to hear your input!

I value handmade gifts. I've made handmade gifts before for friend's birthdays, etc and I enjoy making & giving it away. The same as receiving one. I have handmade gifts given to me by my friends back in high school & it is still with me today.

Hi radiance27! I'm glad to know you cherish handmade gifts as much as I do. I also love to hear so many other people get a sense of satisfaction from creating and giving them as well. I have several handmade treasures given to me over the years. It's such a sweet feeling to touch them or just glance at them and think fond thoughts of the giver.

I love getting hand made gifts and I love making them. They're always unique, even if made from a pattern because everyone does things a little differently. Most of the gifts I make are knitted because I enjoy knitting the most, but I've made other things, too. Everyone seems to enjoy them.

Absolutely peavey! I love to receive handmade gifts...always have. It's great to see things done from another perspective, almost like getting to know a part of the creator. I've never learned to knit although I'd like to. Momma tried to teach me but I never quite caught on. I do crochet though. It's cathartic really...and so easy to do while watching the tube! lol I believe most folks cherish a handmade item so much more than the mass produced equivalent. Of course there will always be a place for fine china, silver, wedding rings, and such. But a hand embroidered linen tablecloth means so much more than a mass marketed made in Thailand polyester one. :o)

Thanks for commenting Jill! I love adding new things to my list as well....Hubby, not so much. I love giving my family and friends handmade gifts that commemorate important events or loved ones that have passed on. I often incorporate keepsakes and such into that type of gift. I've given my nieces Christmas stockings made from an old tattered quilt their Great Great Grandmother stitched of feedsack fabric. They love those stockings better than any other Christmas decoration they have! I don't have grandkids yet. I'm sure I'll have several big ole boxes chock full of the things they make for men when I do!

i've been a crafter all my life and i agree that something someone makes for me is always much more special than a store bought gift. i think christmas has become the worship of the credit card.

Hey AndieBee, I love handmade gifts as well. They are so much more unique than store bought ones. -When you made those Christmas stockings, you probably thought about those kids a whole lot and you pictured them happy about their gift. This alone is so much more worth then going to the store and buying one. Each handmade gift tells a little story about the giver and the receiver. - Just now I am thinking about those psychics who put their hands on objects and feel the vibration of the person who owned it.- If we give a self made present we might just give the gift of the loving vibrations of our thoughts towards the person we made the present for.
