Yes, there are many different brands ofcourse. I cannot say which brand is the best amongst them. But, I have been using "Toshiba" brand for some years now, and I am quite happy with it. It is "Toshiba" Satellite. I carry that along when ever I travel on my business trips.

If you are located in India , I would recommend Dell as it has the best after sale service. Now it might sound stupid , But in case of a Laptop it is one of the most important aspect because if anything goes for a toss the user can not just open the case and fix the issue as it would have been in case of normal assembled machine. On the other hand brands like Acer is also making its mark with price and range of laptops they have launched recently. So first decide what is important to you and then buy it. Hope this helps. Lenovo is the best in my opinion due to their excellent support and build quality. They may be priced higher than say a Dell or Acer but their support is second to none and they are designed to take a beating.
