Is Professional Sport So Stressful That Athletes Needs To Resort To Drugs?

I was quite taken aback with the latest revelation of Andre Agassi's admission of drug abuse during his professional playing career. I can understand the stresses and depressions that he can have and encountered but what I do not understand is why is there no avenues for him to relieve and speak out. I have seen the vast improvements in the aspects of coaching, physiotherapy, sciences and equipment and apparel technologies. But, I just do not see them having attention in the mental and psychological aspects. I do not think that Agassi is the first, there are others and I am just concern how people forget about the athletes well being while chasing for performance and results. How would you view Agassi's admission here? Is there any way to prevent such an incident from happening?
