How to open a stuck jar-cap?

Hi guys! I thought I'd asked you for suggestions on how to open a stuck bottle-jar cap. My son bought a jar of Ruffles Ranch Dip and in his haste to open it he tried using a bottle opener. Now, I think it is stuck and I can't seem to open it. I know it is trivial, but I was hoping I could suggestions from you guys. Thanks.

Tilt the jar and bang it on a hard edged surface, so that the edge hits the section between the cap and jar.
Run it under warm water.
I can't think of anything else at the moment but usually just using these two work.

I have tried hitting the jar on hard surfaces. But thanks for the suggestion of the hot water, I might try that. Hopefully it works. I'm just affraid that if I expose it to so much warm water it may turn the dip. The cap is made of metal so it might just expand enough with the warm water, that I may be able to pry it loose.
