Ref making bad decision. Shouldn't we do something?

Ref making bad decisions during big games in the EPL isn't much news nowadays. It has now been an accepted fact that ref will come out with bad decisions that will make or break a game. Sir Fergie has been blasting ref like every other games. Of course, being a ref isn't easy. They are like running a marathon during a match, and it is quite forgivable for ref to make mistake when the are running 10km per match. Shouldn't someone do something? Like making use of technology to help ref?

hi storm^^;; i don't watch soccer nowadays but i did play on national tournaments. well yes, everyone can make mistakes on making decisions inside the field but some are blatantly favoring a team over another. my team experienced this several times when a referee appointed to the final match is close to the coach of the opponent team. it's really a nice suggestion to have something assist referees like fast replay of a video when a certain situation that is very hard to decide occurs and when a team thinks that their team is being biased...because in games, referees decisions are irreversible

Irreversible decisions... That was a nice word for the current situations in soccer. Thanks for commenting!

yap and there's nothing we can do when the referees' decision is final...even when we can see in the replay that there should be a foul or mistakes in their calls but it's already finished and a team have already lost...

Sometime their mistakes were based on some personal prejudice. Their decisions were not objective. In the case referee vs Man. United, Fletcher said that maybe the referees were influenced by Arsene Wenger's complain when Man. United defeated Arsenal. Wenger said that the referee with their decisions always give benefits to Man. United. After Wenger's statement, the referee seemed to be unobjective when controlling games in which Man. United played. The situation is getting worse because of Fergie's statement against the referee after the game vs Sunderland. The referee who lead Man. United's match showed their hostility to Man. United squad.

Yes indeed. This is very serious, having prejudice even before the match started! Just look at Drogba. We can't really tell if he was really diving, but his infamous reputation will not help him abit.

I guess the problem is not so simple. On the one aspect everyone is pushing for technology, but the other aspect is how much does it slow the game of football. Football is so pulsating because it is fast paced and refs have been making an odd mistake here and there and things have moved on. The other aspect is that how many people actually go for refereeing. I think some of the professional players need to be motivated to take up refereeing once they are done with their career as a player, that might give them a better perspective. Cheers! Ram

In the highest level of soccer matches a decision of the referee is so vital in deciding the fate of the match, we should definitely use technology to improve decision . Like in cricket we could have a fourth referee here who shall look at a television screen and advice the on field referee to make the correct decision wherever possible.I am sure this will also improve the confidence of the referee as he will have somebody to rely on whenever he is in doubt.

Yeah, if you watch Manchester United occasionally you can see some refs have absolute blunders at a couple of games. I really do think they should start with the 6 officials that UEFA stated they will try. Sometimes the referee's just don't get into positions that are possible to judge so why not have more ? Looking at the N'Gog dive yesterday night was absolutely astonishing. A disgraceful dive ! One of the worst ever ! Look at Fletchers clean tackle a C.Asley cole ? He totally got the ball and was penalized then Drogba pulls brown over in the box and they score ? The refs were looking too much at the ball, if they had two other officials who actually looked into the movement of the box instead of looking at the ball then I'm sure that the goal will be disallowed.

A referee must be helped by technology. It is a must. In a case where a referee is not sure about what is happening then the referee should consult with the next referee who watches the replay.
