I have a personal computer and the monitor is giving some problem. I am thinking of exchanging it to some other PC. My daughter says buy a laptap, that occupies less space and can carry anywhere in the house. What do you suggest. Do we get all the features in laptap or notebook? What is the difference between laptap and notebook? Please advise me.

The difference between a lap top and notebook is that, notebook is quite small, with a 10 inch screen. It is quite light and it is not very heavy. Notebooks are okay if you do not do much work with them, and they are useful for sending email and just browsing. I do not know the power of the battery in netbooks. Net books are available at a little lesser price than the laptops. You may not be able to watch movies in the netbook. The best thing is to change your monitor to a LCD, and continue with the old desk top.

Rameshkumaar57, sorry to disturb you again. What is LCD monitor? Can it be fixed to my present computer? Is it very costly compared to other monitors?

A LCD monitor is a flat screen monitor, which is quite thin and sleek, and it does not take up much space on your table, and its power consumption is also less when compared with the normal CRT monitors we have.It gives a much better vieweing pleasure. Usually a 18 inch samsung LCD monitor costs about Rs.7000 to Rs.7,500/

There is no need to call me as Shri.Rameshkumaar57. Just call me plain Rameshkumaar57, which will do. As an elder to me, it really pains me, when somebody gives me such respect. Sorry I was not able to respond to you earlier, as my son was sick, I had to admit him in the hospital, that is why I was not able to respond to you earlier.

Aunty, Its better you can replace your moniter to a LCD one. I agree the laptop consure less space but if htere is andy problem or repair in that they tell it cannot be repaired. Notebookis lesser than the size of laptop but it has not got that high configaration. We can only send mails and browse. So s.on to your desktop itself and you replace your monintor.

It all depends on what you are going to use the computer for, my husband likes his desktop PC because he has a larger keyboard that he's more comfortable with, a mouse, and other things. I, on the other hand, prefer my laptop because of the touch pad, a keyboard that is closer to the screen so I can see it, and the fact that i can travel with the computer.

There are pros and cons for both Desktop and Laptop. Good thing about having is a desktop is that fixing it or upgrading it won't give you a headache since you can easily open the CPU and do the necessary things that you wanted to do. As for the laptop, it is portable enough that you can bring it anywhere which will make your life easier since you can finish your work even if you are not at home but in terms of fixing and upgrading it's pretty annoying since you can't just go and open your laptop that easy.

Don't give up your deskstop, that one stays at home, it wont be hard to have your monitor repaired, A notebook is 1/2 of a laptop, what i mean is a notebook has lesser processing capacity than a laptop, less HD space, lesser in size and smaller processor. A notebook is design to be placed inside a personal hand bag, while a laptop would have its own carry bag.

The problem of the monitor is very minute. When I switch on the power switch of the monitor, the green light comes and the monitor lights up. When I take away my finger from the switch, again it goes away. There is some loose contact. But for this small problem, the mechanic will charge more money for the visit. Further he should be dependable also. However I thank you for your advise. I will buy laptop only. As per your advice, I will keep this desktop too.

Its is definitely the switch,I can teach you how to replace the switch, if you know how to use a soldering iron, you need to open up your monitor and replace the magnetic switch which turn on your monitor, We can also glue your switch so that it stay on, (always) you just press it hard and placed the super glue. It is not a problem if the monitor is always switch on coz you can kill it from the plug.

Get a laptop. It'll make life easier. Portability is freedom. A good battery helps. I think notebook and laptop are two words that describe the same thing.
