Something new for the cats...

So, once again, we are trying to get something organized around the house. The roomie had the idea that a new cabinet to hold her vinyl to cd player so the cats can't get to it, a printer/scanner and maybe, her new drive tower (when our geek delivers it...)
There is only one place in her room for it to fit and to make sure it fit we measured the area, how deep it needed to be to hold the player, etc.
So, we go shopping. There is something for $60 at Salvation Army, but really its too big. Not just too tall, but right on the limit of how wide it could go. So, we continued shopping, knowing that it wasn't going to be grabbed right up.
The first Goodwill we went to really had almost NO furniture at all, very strange, because it generally has a good bit. I said that there was another pair of the stores further out and we could try them.
She said, go for it, so we started out. But, I forgot it was now rush hour so I stayed on the access road. As annoy as the lights are, at LEAST I'm not in the worst of the traffic (I hate traffic.)
But at the next Goodwill we found what looks to be the perfect piece. (personally, I'd be measuring the record player to be sure it fits, but it should.)
So, we bought it to fit in a specific place in the roomie's room.
Then we, well, 2 guys at Goodwill, crammed it in my car and we head home.
Then, we have to get it OUT of the car...
Well, getting it out wasn't that big a deal, gravity did most of the work, but its large, HEAVY with a glass front, and just a fraction too wide to fit on our rolling cart. Dern!
We struggle to get it inside the front door and then I'm pullling it and the roomie is calling encouragement. After some fighting with it, we got it into the kitchen.
"Sorry I wasn't more help," she said, "but I had the cart."
"Why didn't you fold it up?" I asked - just a wee bit peeved...
She looked at the cart, then she looked pretty sheepish. "Cause I'm dumb," she said. "Blame it on the anesthesia..."
I rolled my eyes (for all the good that did since she couldn't see me do it.)
"Lets just leave it here," she said. She meant leaving it in the middle of the kitchen so she could clean out the space where it will go.
"Fine," I said, "lets just get it a little more out of the way" (since it was about 2 feet from the door at that point.)
We shoved it a bit further into the kitchen and went to eat our dinner that we had grabbed on the way home.
Pretty soon, I hear. "Come here, turn on the light."I go into the kitchen and there the cats were all over the thing checking out the new smells. First Rygel and then Timus crawled up into it from the back. This morning Rio was inside.

she's been working to get it in place in her room - I wish I could help her get the room more together, but she's BAD about just filling up the space until there's only enough room to get to her desk, TV, dorm fridge and bed - and remember, the room is only 12x10

oh, Timus is a very happy boy, he makes some trouble, but he's just about as friendly a cat as we've got
ordinarily the roomie does the "guy" stuff around here - being as she's 5'10 and 300+ lbs, but sometimes she just doesn't think - I honestly thought she had closed the cart a couple of times so she could help me, but...
a fellow or 2 would be handy, shame we just can't land one...

Sounds like u took on quite a job. Are u like me & have to do everything yourself. Gets old, doesn't it? Glad u found the piece u needed & glad the cats liked it. U better rest after all that.

Honestly, I don't feel that I have to do it myself - in fact, the 2 roomie's have been packing up the stuff that was previously stored in the area and the other roommate - the one that can see - has been mopping the floor and running wires. I came home to find all 3 pieces in the kitchen, with the boxes of stuff also in the kitchen while they are cleaning the space for the new cabinet...
Am thinking of getting in there and moving the bookcase to a better spot so that the cat's won't knock it over

Better get the gear inside it quick before the cats claim it as their new Condo!

lol As I was reading, Elic, I was 'there' enjoying the whole conversation. As for the cats, that's not hard to picture at all being Tigger and Simba are like that with every piece of furniture or scrap of carpet we bring in here. Even the clothes basket full of clothes from outside is thoroughly checked out and then made into a temp. bed for a cat nap. Thanks for the entertainment!

Oddly enough, I got a new piece of furniture, too, to organize my stitching stuff. I wasn't planning on it, but driving around Sunday with my friend, we saw a tallboy dresser at the curb with a free sign on it, so we stopped and picked it up. She was thinking of taking it to a consignment store but then I started thinking it might fit in my dining room (where I have a little set of drawers) and I could clear up a lot of clutter. Looks great, too. I have to give the little set of drawers to my friend, though.

LOL never underestimate the power of a determined cat..or several
one of my cats used to get into a closed desk drawer.i still have no idea how he managed it.the space couldn't have been more than 1 or 2 inches.i'd go to get a paper clip and there he was purring at me.

Cats ARE curious by nature, and forever think, that no matter WHAT you may bring home, it is somehow meant for them.
They're probably thinking..."Wow! Hey check out this humongous new toy mommy got us! Cool huh? Now...how do you get into this thing anyway?"
;-)

Isn’t Timus a handsome devil? One of the things I love about cats is their curiosity and the way they just have to come and take a look when there is something new; they usually can’t wait to jump in or hide in boxes, furniture etc. When my husband replaced our old carpet with floorboards in the lounge room, one of our cats kept walking on it while sniffing the ground and the other would stand on the doorway too scared to walk on the floor although I could tell she really wanted to!I would get Timus out of the new cabinet or it will become his before you know it!

Haha cute pic! My cat Mika is the same, anything new into the house and he has to check it out. Anything you are doing he has to be there to supervise! He especially likes helping when I clean the fire in the morning, he will watch intently as I clear it out then put one paw into the ash decide against any further investigating and leave a trail of single dusty prints!
