A singing voice? My child? Well if you've been following my discussions might you know: 1. I always wanted to have a singing voice 2. I don't have one 3. My kids won't let me sing 4. My mom had a pretty nice voice So it was an interesting and pleasant surprise to have Cary's teacher tell me that he's musical (I knew that) and that he has a pretty decent voice (I knew it was better than either of his sisters' voices) and that we might want to consider him for choir. The child following the mom's dream possibly? Pretty cool... PS They're all three doing great in school too, hooray!

I can easily pick anything that is out of tune, but to my sorrow, I can't sing a note in tune. I LOVE singing. I love music. Two things I always wanted to do were to play the piano and sing. I'm pleased I could never learn to play the piano because my fingers wouldn't allow me to do so now and it would be so much worse to have the ability yet not be able to use it. The inability to sing doesn't stop me from singing though - especially not on my long drives on my own! I hope Cary enjoys the choir. It will be good for him - and you.

Well first step, contact the teacher and see if there IS a choir. Maybe she was talking about choir in general and not at the school specifically. But that would be great if it's available and he wants to.

Congrats to Carey. My voice is probably worse than your and of course, it reminds me of a story. I am not known for brevity. Actually, some mylotters have told me that I make too long posts, but what the hell - you cannot keep a good pair of X chromosomes down!2 years ago I was in the Dominican Republic with a GF and she can sing. It was a church conference for a week. Remember that I do not speak Spanish but she did. One of the Priests had heard GF sing something called the 8 point hallelujah and he loved singing it. Well, they had a street Mass and there must have been at least a thousand people if not more, attending the Mass together with 2 bishops and a posse of Priests - maybe 12 or more. GF had sore throat. Reember that bit. Vital. Halfway through the Mass the priest comes up and says the Bishop would like for us to sing the 8 point hallelujah. Totally freaking out we made our way to the front where the Bishop and Priests were. The conductor of the choir pointed his little baton at me to begin. I told GF that she had to start then everyone would join in. she opened her mouth and only a croak came out - not even one hallelujah! My face must have shown what I was feeling and the Priest bravely begun and then I joined in. It was awful. I was so embarrassed and now whenever it is sang at Mass we look at each other and start giggling. I am laughing now at the memory

What maxde it worse was that I did not know it was going to be a street Mass and I did not use the b/room at the Museum. I so wanted to wee. So my friend asked a lady if we could use her bathroom as we were walking up the top of the street. This blessed women had an outside toilet and no running water and took her precious water to clean the place first. Now I am in dire straits. She then put water in a basin for me to wash my hands and water in a pail for me to flush. I was bursting and fumbled with my zip on my jeans. I sat down gratefully but the jeans were ruched up and so I wet my jeans. Yelled to GF who started to laugh. Blessed women had given me all of her water. So I saved her pride but gave money to her GS as I knew that she would get it for him to go to school. So this happened abuot 20 mins before we were asked to get up and I kept pulling down my T shirt and hoped to high heaven that there wasn't an odour!

that's good. why dont you enrol them in voice lessons to enhance their talent, that way, you will have your dream come true through your sons. i also train my youngest to sing and i regret not having enough time to let the elder brothers sing too..

It is great that he has a natural talent not only for music in general but also for singing. Is it something that he enjoys doing? It would be great if he could pursue that, even as something that he does in his free time for fun. It is even better that all three of your children are doing great in school. I hope that they continue to do well, since becoming a teenager has a tendency to wreak havoc with a child's brain. I think it is all the hormones or something.

I know he wants to learn guitar and I've been holding off a bit. I'm going to ask him about the singing before I talk to the music teacher about choir.

It is wonderful that he has so many options. I think it is a good idea for you to talk to him about it first, because then he can decide what is more important to him. That way, he will like what he is doing better, because he had a say in it.

Congratulations Mommy Dawn-- I am proud for Cary... a promising star. I know how happy you are for receiving that news from your kid's teacher. I will not be surprise that sooner you will be sharing more about his performance -- my dear stage mom LOL.

We felt the music here in the text of the discussion you started at mylot.com. But that melody is created not by your child. It is created by his mom. Mother of a child could feel better than other. Mom sings in the response of her baby. And the same song we listened here in your discussion. No love is pure and great than the love of mother of a child. Child gifts you lala lala in response of the love you gifted him. wish you and your family best of uck.

Does that mean two trips to school - or would the girls have to be early too? If so, how would they feel about that?

I don't know the details yet, but hopefully the timing is such that I can drop Cary for Choir, drop Dearra off and then come back with Naomi. Or Naomi can go with Cary. Or if it's really early, Richard can drop Cary off separately. It's only one day a week anyway.

Well done Cary! I am just like you Dawn, I love to sing but I can’t and my daughter won’t let me do it. It’s great that your son has a good voice; that is so lucky! My little girl sounds as though she’s inherited my singing talents unfortunately so I won’t be encouraging her to audition for Idol anytime soon! Great to hear they are all doing well at school too, you should be proud.

Hi dawn, my first impression on meeting the new music teacher last year in the shop was he must be tone deaf. There's really no need to lie to me and tell me my son has a good singing voice. I've heard it and guarantee he's inherited it from me.

congratulations . you can now sing to your heart's content (at least in the bathroom). no offense . i know exactly how a mother feels. in this regard, i'd like to let you know of an almost exact same thing i discovered. i hve a toddler and he goes to school already. english is our second language and they have this 1-10 counting numbers being studied already complicated by the before, after or in between missing nos. that the child has to figure out. my child didn't exactly perfect the quiz but he got 3 mistakes (the highest in the class). i was so, so happy since being a former teacher i know how complicated this is for a 3 year old child with english as a second language. but i do know that in education, as long as half the class can answer and half of them can answer half of the teacher's questions then they can study it. big, big deal for me since i'm quite poor in math. i totally zonk out with the site of nos.

That's really good! You're son would be living your dream. I've been a choir member for years, and it's so much fun. Not only do I get to sing, but I also get to socialize with people who have the same interests as I do. I say let him do it if he wants to.

That's okay dear, atleast you could sing with the right tune. You don't have to be a diva or a pop star. Even pop star do not really have a good quality voice. Just enjoy music and be proud of your child who will make your dream come true! :)

I will happily admit that neither I, nor ANYBODY in my family (as far as I know) has even a partially bearable singing voice. My sister is the one who is usually spouting out a tune. However, I don't think "tune" is the correct word to use. It is an absolute racket and has me holding my ears in pain. It's miserable having nobody to serenade you like some privileged Greek god :D Only kidding
