Wal Mart

I am the husband of a woman that works at Wal Mart. She was a valued overnight employee. She wanted to spend more time with her husband and daughter in the evenings, she changed her hours from 9pm to 7 am. Her supervisor informed her she could alternate jobs. And her pay scale would not be reduced and her job title would not be lowered. Tada!!! Guess what? She took a $2 an hour cut in pay, she was reduced to a cashier. My wife has worked at Wal Mart for 4 years. I have seen how things are run in this business, I believe she could do any of the upper management jobs. I have personally seen one of the night time managers walking around and all he does is twirl his keys. It p**sses me off the way Wal Mart in general treats their employees. I believe Wal Mart if it was several years would have been called Sambo's because that's the way they treat their employees. And please forgive me for any derogatory remarks referring to them as Sambo's. Wal Mart treats their employees like ___________? (fill in the blank) I am a husband of a Wal Mart employee, each time I see one of the managers, I would like to take him into the deli department and beat the stuffings out of him.

I know my daughter has worked at walmart at two different times and they are not really good to their employees at all. They lie, cheat and abuse their employees. I just don't understand why the employees don't get together and protest against the store. I also don't understand how they stay in business if employees are so unhappy. Unless they are staying because they can't find another job due to the economy. We will see the store start to lose their like ability if more people would come forward with their stories. Sorry that your wife is going thru this and WALMART is very unfair to have done this to her. There ought to be a law against such treatment.

I live in a small canadian community and it is known here that a Walmart job sucks because they treat the workers like garbage. They think that workers are a dime a dozen and you are easily replaced. The turn over rate is really high there and they are always looking for workers because people don't stay longer because of the mistreatment of the workers. I am sorry that this is also happening elsewhere but then I think it shows that there is something wrong in the formula the company is using for their employees.

Hopefully people will stop shopping there to support the workers and maybe walmart will realize what creeps they are!

I have read and heard so many stories on how Wal Mart treats their employees. I have not shopped there in over 10 years because of this very reason. I also think they destroy small towns and small businesses. You may get some of your products cheaper but at what price are you really paying. I think they are greedy and don't care at all about their employees. I recently read an article about how the employees were given demerits if they failed to come to work if they had flu, h1n1 or if they stayed home to take care of a sick child. check it out for yourself http://walmartwatch.com/

walmart - I love to shop in walmart.
I am sorry to hear about this.Walmart is one of my favorite store.I love to sop there because most of their stuffs are cheap.Although my hubby doesn't like this store.I also hear one of my friends who works there. She complained about how bad the management treated their employees.I hope one day they could wake up and change their attitude towards them.Perhaps they should protest against them. Its a way of showing their mistakes.

I no longer shop there because of their practices. I just don't feel good about it. Any way it works for me and you will have to decide what works for you. I know people save money there but i feel it is at a high price for someone else whether it be the Walmart worker or the worker in another country working for just pennies a day and under bad conditions so that walmart can sell that "product" so cheaply!!!! check out this site! http://walmartwatch.com/

I think your use of the word Sambo is excruciatingly painful, it is not a word to use to describe Wal_mart... just use a swear word with dots or something... because you are in effect saying that wall mart are treating employees like black slaves, why not just say that? There is a video out about all the bad stuff that wal mart does to it's employees, they are definitely subhuman it's a shame that your wife has to work there at all. And cutting wages and titles and then hours is something that wal mart is known for it is the big bully syndrome to keep employees from complaining. The ceo's of wal mart need to be imprisoned it's as simply as that.

Unfortunately I have heard this time and time again about people who work for WalMart, and this makes me wonder if the reason why WalMart hires more older Adults and people from other nationalities more often around here, is because of their BAD work ethics, etc. and these are the only kind of people that will work for them? But in reality there are other places out there unfortunately that are about just as bad or worse.

I'm really sorry to hear this. But yes, I must admit that there are people out there that are like this. It's all just a part of the society we live in. We all have to deal with these people, no matter where we are. I would suggest your wife to go talk to one of these manager people about the problem as nicely as you can. Maybe there is another side to this story. If they still refuse, then maybe she can consider switching jobs, because I would hate to work in that kind of environment. I hope your situation improves!

I am a spouse of an employee as well. He works about five departments a night while the ones that make several dollars more than him set back and relax. What the heck is the problem? If you have an employee that does the job you pay them. If the employee doesn't do the job fire them. You don't reward them by not giving them anything to do. My husband has literally told them he changed his name. LOL I don't know how Walmart has even stayed in business as long as they have the way they treat their employees. They have now strong armed everyone into getting direct deposit or they get these prepaid credit cards where it costs to get all your money at once. It's ridiculous. Now the health ins. They have told everyone if they don't want the insurance they have to put it in the computer. If you don't put it down in the computer walmart chooses your ins. Needless to say you have to be on the clock to decline the insurance. If you are working overnight in my husband's store they won't give you the time to use the computer. How is he supposed to decline? Even worse, what type of plan will wal-mart give him for insurance?

I spent 20 years working for a large supermarket chain. There were many times when I hated going to work with some of the scheduing that was dished out to me. However, I needed the money, and the benefits including health, eyeglass, 5 week vacation, and more. So I had to suck it up and do the schedule that was handed to me. I worked hard and was promoted in a management position and worked a much better schedule with more money and benefits. It also took more than 4 years to get there and the sacrifice of not being with friends andd family at certain holiday and weekends. So, maybe she should ge another job or try to get back to her former position. Good Luck

That is too bad, as a married woman with children, I would not like to work at nights because evenings are usually family times. If I were her, I would look for another job and switch when I get a better offer

Every single person who I have known who has worked for walmart has never been apreciated. Not only do they not make any money what so ever, but also the level of apreciation is minimal. I strongly suggest that it would be better if your wife would spend fulltime days doing tasks and writing discussions here than working at the wal mart. Unfortunately sometimes we are all driven to situations where we have no or little choice.

You should hear the story about my dad, who USED to work at Walmart. Long story short - Dad worked at Walmart for 3 years, mom had a knee replacement so he took FMLA, he was supposed to get a paycheck every two weeks. For four months we didn't get a paycheck from them, even though he called almost every day, and occasionally one of them would say there was a check on the way... Nothing ever came. Finally he was 'downsized', or fired. He then tried applying for unemployment, because we had our house foreclosed on, were four months behind on bills, and he needed to get some money fast. When he applied for unemployment Walmart contested it, saying he quit. So they cheated us out of 4 MONTHS of needed money. Bad things have kept happening since then, and my dad ended up leaving my mother from all the stress. By the way, he was a manager, he even went through their horrible training! I have no respect for Walmart anymore.

That is a common puzzle between HR and employees. It is not fair to work only night shift for any married, or single unless out of personal preference. The employers have their way to balance usually through financial means, though sometimes not as an open policy. Since it is your choice, so that you can have normal evening life, it is better to focus on the advantages. Time with family members weigh higher, as long as you can make two ends meet. Keep in your best mood, so that your daughter feels happy with dad and mom.

I am not surprized at all! Walmart has had a bad reputation for years, when it comes to the way they treat their employees. That's why not too many states want them in their towns. We fought like heck to keep them out. The prices may be cheapers on some ways, but it's not worth it, if their taking it out on their employees. And FYI...I had to buy some printer's ink, and found that Walmart was 2.00 more than Best Buy...so it most cases, Walmart isn't all that cheaper. You have to be real careful in what you buy there.

Umm, I see the issue. I don't know how to help you solve them though cause a manager is a manager, we don't have the authority to pick managers. Can't blame the upper management either cause if they are doing a bad job then there should be complaints made to the upper management. So i see this as an internal issue which only walmart can help. Hope everything works out fine.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife, but it's unfortunate but true, Walmart really has no respect for the people who work for them. So, you can be the best employee ever but they'll never acknowledge that or care. And it's even more frustrating because despite how bad the economy is, Walmart is still doing pretty well. It's not like they're losing millions of customers and their profits are plunging, so for them to cut her pay by $2 simply because she wanted to change her working hours is disgusting! Especially when they said she wouldn't be affected at all by it.
