What do you think about 'filler episodes'

As you know anime episodes are mainly adapted from manga series. Usually when a manga become popular it is adapted to screen and published as anime. Naturally, one anime episode covers a lot more manga episodes. So in order to follow manga from a distance, sometimes animes involve filler epiosodes. Most recent example i follow is from Bleach; the plot about Zanpakutou's rebellion is filler. Although fillers are neccecery to keep publishing fresh epiosodes, i feel like they're hurting the overall story. That is one of the main reasons i stopped watching Naruto and Bleach as anime but only reading the manga. What are your opinions about fillers? Do you enjoy them or do you believe that they are neccessary?

I enjoy them sometimes. I think it can be good to take a little break from the action with a funny filler. However I don't like it when the is to many as it takes away from the overall plot. Sometimes I think it would be better to just play older eps to help fans remember charters or something that happened that will effect the plot. Just my humble thoughts.

I guess it all depends for me. I generally don't mind filler episodes if it's short and has a good story. But I don't like it when it's just a bunch of different filler arcs after one another, perfect example with the endless Naruto fillers. That really turned me off the series. I basically forgot what the actual storyline was about by the time the fillers ended. Another time when I don't like fillers are when they use them in short anime series. I've actually seen 26 episode series that has three or four fillers that has nothing to do with the show whatsoever. I also don't like it when there are fillers in the beginning of a series. An example would be the D.Gray-man anime. I think I was 17 episodes in the anime and they started going into these filler episodes. That just ruined the show for me because they had plenty of material from the manga to use but didn't.

I like them occasionally...if they show a different side to the characters, their lives, the story...or if they're particularly fun. Most of the time, filler sucks, though. Mostly when it's fanservice themed filler. Just...occasionally, it is awesome. And bah, "necessary" is subjective when we're talking about stories anyways. xD

I don't mind fillers if they let us relax for a while and gives a new story plot. Ffor examples, in dramas, we get to see something like "Behind-the-scene" videos. But for animation, they don't have such thing so fillers felt like a replacement of "Behind-the-scene". I think it depends on situations to say if they are necessary. For example, such as Bleach, I don't really appreciate their fillers during the middle of a long battle, we were suddenly shown fillers. It makes me felt quite angry and the time to wait for the fillers to finish is torturing!

It all depends on the filler itself. If you'll notice, only the anime series that has fillers are the kind of you-don't-know-when-they-will-end series like Shugo Chara, Bleach, Detective Conan, Naruto and so on. IMO fillers are necessary to create some relief in the storyline of an anime...but too much fillers and flashbacks makes you want to abandon that anime UNLESS the fillers are made smartly or witty. That is one of the reasons why I don't like Naruto and Bleach. Aside from having a lame story (bleach is exceptional) Naruto fails to make the filler 'smartly made' which Bleach and detective conan succeeded to do.

I don't like fillers at all. In Naruto, there's a lot of filler episodes. those episodes really annoyed me. Yes I agree with you, they are hurting the overall story.

I TOTALLY agree! Fillers are 98% crap! For Bleach, I decided to skip the entire Zanpakutou arc. I haven't watched Bleach in months. I hate Bleach fillers the most as the recent 2 filler arcs started in the middle of the HM arc and the Karakura fight arc respectively. That's simply ridiculous. At least Naruto's fillers flow with the main story line. For Naruto too, after watching a few episodes of fillers, I decided to drop it and wait for Shippuuden to start. So far, Shippuuden fillers are not half-bad and they do not last for many episodes so it's bearable. I think that it's better for the show to go on breaks like the anime Major. So far, there are 5 seasons of Major and between each season, there's a few months break. Anyway, I dropped Bleach manga when Ichigo killed Ulquiorra. I really hate how 'good' people never die in Bleach and only bad people die. The only thing I like about Bleach so far is the Vaizards. Is the manga getting interesting?

Fillers are nice only between plot lines. So when a story ends, nefore the next one begins, they can put in some fillers. And so they did for quite a while in both Bleach an Naruto. Until the anime caught up with the manga. Then they placed those horrible fillers in Bleach, when , after saving Orihime they are all back in the real world, and after the "princess from soul society" fillers they are back in Hueco Mundo like nothing happend. That was confusing and anoying!! I personally don't understand how the manga can fall behind. It's easier to draw ten pages a week (very whort chapters in Bleach!!) than a whole animated episode! Ohh..and by the way, smedtra. In many ocassions, mangas continued even after the anime, but not because there was no interest to continue the anime but to make people but the manga to see how the story goes on. In the east it's the other way arround : they don't promote movies with books and comics, they promote the mangas and light novels with the help of anime. Personally, I like fillers placed between major story lines tht are either funny, or they clear some information about the characters and their past. Speaking of fillers. Do you know which anime has a whole season that is made only of fillers and nothing else? Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. It was a cute series meant to amuse people with funny, romantic adventures with Sousuke and Kaname that had nothing to do with the serious major plot. But it was very fun to watch non the less. So I guess if fillers are placed corectly in a series and have nice subjects they can be very pleasent

i dont mind filler episodes as long as there good to watch but if they divert too much from the actual story line then i dont really like it. Bleach's Zanpaktou's Rebellion is actually good. i really liked it It shows the Zanpacto's humunoid form and the story is interesting other fillers in bleach werent that appealing to me.
