Poor Cooper

Our cat, Cooper, somehow managed to get into some poison in our new house. I don't know where or how he did it, and I don't know what it was. I feel awful about it too, like somehow it's our fault and we weren't careful enough. He got so thin that you could count the vertebrates in his spine. The insides of his ears turned yellow, as well as his eyes and his gums. He was so frail that he scarcely moved. He rarely ate and we had to 'force' him to drink water. It was so hard to deal with because for a while we had no way to get him to the vet. Finally, we found some transportation and got him to the vet immediately. He ordered us to feed him liquified food every 4 hours and give him nausea medicine and antibiotics every 12 hours. The first 2 days of this were hard. Cooper fought and fought with the little strength he had. He'd clamp his jaws shut and push us away with all four paws. It was hard to force him to eat. Finally, after those first two grueling days, we found a way to feed him that suited him a little better. His strength is coming back and his eyes are turning back to their usual bright green. The wait for Cooper's test results seemed to take forever and none of us slept well on top of the hectic feeding schedule. When the vet finally called, we were all so relieved to hear that it wasn't fatal. As long as Cooper keeps eating and taking his medicine, he'll be okay. As for the rest of us, I'm not sure. My boyfriend is the only one able to feed him and he's still got to be in school and such. Poor thing barely gets 3 hours a sleep a night.

I am so sorry to read this Have you searched the House for the Poison? The thing is if it is still about as soon as he is well enough he might get to it again I am glad to hear that he is doing better though and hope that he will soon be able to eat himself

We were thinking the same thing actually. He's an indoor cat, so it has to be in the house. We think it may be in the garage because while we were unpacking some boxes he went out there to explore. Our other 2 cats haven't been out there and they've been fine. So we're keeping the garage barred off to all our pets for their safety.
