Excersize with kids?

How do you fit your fitness in with little ones around? The local YMCA offers a discounted membership fee to low income families, and I've put in an application for that. I cannot wait for it to be approved. There are child care facilities there for while I'm working out, and that will be such a great help! Until then, mainly I'll do a work out in my living room. I send the kids to play in their rooms for half an hour, and I'll either turn on the Fitness On Demand channel or pop in a DVD for my work out. On nice days I'll walk to the playground. While the kids play on the playground I'll do some cardio. My oldest showed me some of the drills he does for football, and I've started doing them on the field next to the playground. Sometimes the kids will come down and run around with me. What do you do for excersize when you have the kids with you?

I exercised with my little sister back on summer break alot we would walk up and down my holler about 12-16 times would make about 2 miles. Then I bought her one of those big 16 inch balls from Walmart and a smaller 8in ball I added a picture of a ball like the ones we used of the big one. We would take the big one and we would stand back to back and hold the ball arm length then pass it side to side to each other only twisting the top half of our bodies.. then we would take the smaller ball and take a step from each other still back to back.about 50 times. and then put out legs shoulder length apart then bend to push the ball through our legs and then she would reach for it then hand it back to me over her head then we would do that about 40-50 times. sometimes we would sit on flow across the room from each other and roll the ball across so we would have to lean as far as we could to reach it. we would also jump rope to see who could do the most without messing up..and using the hoola hoop is also great exercise..even if you can't do it.. cause your constantly bending up and down to pick it up..if your like me and little sis..lol We also played badmitten and that was fun and great..also alot of bending up and down to pick up birdie..Well, I do hope that you get approved soon..

We used to do lots of stuff like that when we had our house. In the summer we'd be outside until dark playing frisbee, ball, badmitten, football... whatever struck our fancy that day. That would have been after a nice long walk, half mile or longer. I miss it, and am looking forward to getting back into our house!

Mostly I just went walking, when they were too little to keep up, they were in the stroller. My neighborhood when my kids were little was idea, lots of uphill/downhill and nice views. Now they can keep up...

We do loads of walking! We've cut down on it a bit since moving into the trailer park, we're right on the main road. But on nice days we'll go find a nature trail or something. Walking around the neighborhood is something we really miss from our old house, and we're looking forward to getting back there.

In the summer we go for long family walks in the evening or bike rides. I haven't been much for working out until the last few months since I've started to lose weight and even then its a struggle to get motivated enough to do it. I got myself a wii fit. It comes with one work out game that has fun activities like hula hoop and stepping and you can even run. My kids like to play it too. My youngest can even do some of the activities on it which shocked me because he is only a little over 2. I got some cute tape of him doing the running one. I'd like to get a treadmill soon so that I can walk and run inside since the weather is turning colder. If it were just me I'd still walk, but I feel bad taking my little one out if it is cold.

We used to do lots of walks in the old house, but it's tough here cause we're right on the main road with no sidewalks and it's 45 mph. I want to get a Wii Fit, and the Biggest Loser game (it needs the Wii Fit to play it). Hopefully for Christmas!

I am not a confident person and so I am reluctant to want to go to a fitness centre anyway. Although it would be nice to go swimming once in a while but like you say its hard when the kids are with me. I just use my sons wii and do wii fit plus, I do an hour in the evening and the kids follow me but they know that I want to be serious and do exercise. When I finish I always play a bit on some of the games with them too.

I've been to the gym before and I never minded it at all. People don't really pay much attention to anyone else anyways. Except me, I like to people watch, but not in a creepy way! I can't wait till I get my Wii Fit... but I'll still send the kids away when I do it, there's just not enough space in our living room!

When my children were small, I would exercise with them. I started when they were only a few days old. I'd lie on the floor on my back with my knees bent. I'd lie the baby on my stomach, tense my pelvic muscles and raise my pelvis off the floor. As the child grew his weight added to the intensity of the exercise. By the time he could sit up, I was bouncing him, and we were both having a laughing good time. Another exercise to strengthen those abdominal muscles is to do sit-ups with the baby in your arms. We played all kinds of active games. Even "horsie" can give you more than sore knees and elbows. Try to throw the child off your back by contracting your abdominal muscles and flexing your spine. I can't imagine the mother of a toddler needing to go to the gym for exercise.

Well done. You are incredible to take on exercise too. I sometimes use my daughter's wii fitness programme but she has to be here to set it up for meOther than that I walk around the property and that is it. Not good I know.

I am hoping my hubby gets me a Wii Fit for Christmas! We have the Wii, but not the balance board. They're still like $100 here. Like I said, hopefully Santa will bring it!

When I walk outside I will put my son in the stroller and push him or pull him in the wagon. When I walk inside on my treadmill he will just play in his room which is across the hall from my exercise room. I also have a weightbench in there that I work my legs out with and he never comes and tries to bother it. I will tell him that I have to exercise and for him to go in his room and play and he does. Then sometimes I will do crunches or push ups in my room and he will just sit there and watch me and laugh. lol Sometimes he will imitate me and do them too. He is 3 years old so he thinks it's fun. Sometimes I will take him to the park and let him ride his bike or scooter and I'll walk and they have the things where you can work your legs and stuff so I will do that.

i suggest just going for a walk. i used to take my kids for walks when they were younger and we walked just about everywhere. now they are older and i have knee issues. you could also go to the library to see what sort of exercise tapes they have there.

I don't have any kids myself but my niece goes to dancing classes in her spare time. They don't really learn how to dance. They just sort of move around to the music. The instructor does stretching with them and makes it fun to exercise.

Why dont you excercise with them? Play ball games in the park or go swimming. Or see if they want to join in your workout DVD, excercise will be good for the kids too. I imagine they have loads of energy, and are pretty flexible too so i wouldnt worry too much about it being too hard for them or anything. I remember at that age i never needed to warm up and would never get tight muscles or anything.
