Wow, no discussions in this topic yet? There are so many bands out there these days who play so many shows a year. What is your favorite band to see live and why? Who put on the greatest show you have ever seen?

I've been to some pretty amazing shows. I live 250 miles from any real good venues so I have learned to pick and choose shows carefully. One of the best was at a little dive bar in Colorado Springs, with about 150-200 people. One of my favorite bands, Kill Hannah, had just gotten off an arena tour supporting, I think, All American Rejects, and they were super excited to be back playing small venues so they were putting 110% into the show. After that I was hooked. I have vowed to see them every chance I get, no matter the cost. I saw them again in October of this year and got to meet a couple of the guys before the show. They are some of the sweetest, most appreciative people you'll ever meet. It's really fantastic to hear a band you admire thank you and tell you that they know it's because of their fans that they get to keep doing what they love doing. After the show the lead singer came up to me and a couple of other girls who had been there before the show too and started talking like we were old friends (until an actual old friend pulled him away).

That's a great story! I used to live in Boulder for many years. While I don't know any of the bands you mentioned, I know the scene in Colorado is great for many genres. Everybody stops off in Colorado! I'll have to check out those bands, thanks! ;-)

Is this really the first discussion in this interest? That's crazy considering there are almost 200,000 MyLot members! lol. But thank you for being the first. Let's see.. the best band I've seen live? Probably a band called Rancid, and I saw them a few years back at this venue called First Ave in Minneapolis near where I live. Rancid is.. kind of a neo-punk band that's been around FOREVER. They brought a lot of energy to the stage, and they did some Operation Ivy covers, which was super cool because that band is no longre around. Another band that I saw that was pretty sweet was Social Distortion, also about 3 years ago. They were pretty awesome too. I love how interactive they were with the crowd, and they actually played all of my favorite songs, which was pretty sweet. I haven't seen a band live in a few years unfortunately.. I'm just not as "into" seeing bands as I used to be (I used to go to local shows and semi-famous shows all the time with friends who I no longer really hang around). But anyway, my two faves? Probably Social D & Rancid! What about you? I think it's only fair that you answer your own question!

I've heard of Rancid before. And Social distortion, well, let's just say " I was born to lose and destined to fail!" lol. :-)

The best concert that I have ever seen was George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Merle Haggard. I guess I think that is was the best because it was so many big name (back in the day) artists. I would love to see Billy Joel and Elton John in concert. I tried to get tickets this summer, but it wasn't feasible. They were playing at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. I think that would have probably topped the previous concert. It seems just about every concert that I have been to has been pretty good, besides maybe one or two exceptions. Another favorite was Montgomery Gentry and Hank Williams, Jr. They put on a really good show. And when I seen Alan Jackson, I thought that was pretty good as well. I could go on and on. LOL

It's been a while since I saw a band live that I truly enjoyed. Unfortunately, most of the music I like are by artists who are long gone or, at the least, past their prime. One of my favorite musicians is Leonard Cohen. Finally, I saw him in June 2008. It was like a dream come true, even though I prefer his stuff from the late 60s and the 70s. To finally hear that voice and those wonderful words with my own ear .... him in front of me - wow! It sent shivers up my skin and put tears in my eyes. An artist that I wish I could have seen? Jeff Buckley. That would have been amazing.

Where to start..... My all time best show was Pink Floyd's 1994 Divison Bell tour show at the Palace in Auburn Hills, MI Need I say More??? Other live bands that rock are the Black Crows, Rusted Root, Phish, DMB, Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra, Moe, String Cheese Incident, and Steel Pulse. Now my most favorite unknown band is from Houston Texas. "Moses Guest" is a quartet containing 2 guitars, piano, bass and drums. These guys play the best jam rock with a southern blues twist that I have ever heard. The first time I saw these guys I was floored. Their musical concepts were deep and yet they could keep you dancing all night long with their upbeat style. Eventually we all became friends and I keep in touch with them still. Even though they have never been picked up by a major label they still play some of the most honest music I have heard!
