What's with these teens asking random people for money?

I guess this is a continuation of my other discussion dealing with teenagers and money. This is something that I've seen quite a bit of lately and it kind of bugs me. I help out at my aunt's donut shop during the weekends and I sometimes get these teenagers that come along looking to buy some stuff but they don't have enough money. Some of them go so far as to pretty much accost random people that walk by to ask them for some money. I really don't know what's up with that but it can't be proper behavior. I mean, you don't just go up to people you don't know to ask them for money. That's just wrong. I don't remember anyone being like that when I was their age (makes me sound and feel old). If we didn't have enough money then we didn't buy the stuff. It was as simple as that. Has anyone else seen or encountered anything like that before? Or is it just me?

Hi munchiez, thanks for the response. As for where I live, it's Redding, California. And you're right, I would be so embarrassed and ashamed to ask someone I don't know for money. Heck, I feel that way even when I ask my friends and siblings for some money. It makes me feel strange to think that I'm incapable of earning my own money.
