Networks are Starting to Cancel Shows Once Again

I just don't understand why the networks don't give shows a chance to gain an audience. Every year we start watching shows that interest us. We get hooked and then they cancel the shows. I don't know why I continue to let these networks do this to me. I should just watch my news shows and movies. Here are the following cancelations so far. The shows marked with the stars I watched and thought were very good shows.
1. Eastwick*
2. Hank*
3. Beautiful Life
4. The Cleaner
5. Monk
6. Southland*
7. Trama*
8. Dollhouse
I also think Jay Leno is going bye bye too.

I thought the Cleaner was doing well. *shrug* I only watched it once, by accident... I was channel surfing at like 1 in the morning and caught a glimpse of Jackson Rathbone so I stopped, because I adore him, and watched the whole episode. It was really good but it's on A&E so I never could remember when it was on to get into it too much.
I really liked Dollhouse...what I had seen of it, which was the first season. I am not home on Friday nights so I have all of this season so far on my DVR but now that they've canceled it (poor Joss...he was so excited about this project
) I'm trying to decide if I should just delete them, rather than watch what there is and be disappointed when I get to the last one.

Meanwhile.... Does anyone know how the ratings system really works? Like me and Dollhouse for instance. I really liked the show but I couldn't watch it in its regular time slot so I recorded it. Does that still count in favor of the show or does my "vote" not really count? In which case, is it better to watch what shows you can online so they get the hits that way instead of DVR'ing?

They get you hooked and then take it away. I wouldn't waste my time watching it now knowing that you will not have an ending to the show. I just don't understand the networks and their decisions. Give a show a chance like they you to back in the day. Thanks for responding.

I also watched Eastwick. I thought it was a good show. Although Southland was canceled, at least you'll be able to see all the new episodes they already shot on TNT. NBC wasn't even going to air them, which seems like such a waste to me. As for Jay Leno's show, it will be around for a while. It is so much cheaper to make than a regular show, and even though it is last in its timeslot they said it is getting the numbers that they expected. But I think we can all agree it was a mistake, huh.

I think they could have promoted Eastwick better too. I think they gave up on a terrific show way too soon. I'm with you about waiting at least until January.
You mentioned Hank being canceled. Do you watch The Middle or Modern Family? They're terrifically funny. I'm sure you know they air after Hank, but I was wondering if you had checked them out. To kind of make up for Hank since you liked it.

Oh yes I would watch channel 7 from 7 to 10pm - Hank, The Middle, Modern Family, Coogar Town and Eastwick. That was my Wednesday night.

Yes I can't believe they didn't give Eastwick more of a chance. I think if a show starts in September or October they should be on at least till January. To invest your time in a show and then for it to be canceled without a ending is just not right. When Sexy Dirty Money was canceled they came back with four episodes to tie up all the loose ends and give us a good ending to a series. I think all shows that have a continuing story line should have and ending played out. Thanks for responding.

I hate that. I really like Trauma. I cannot believe they are taking it off right after it gets started.

I really like Eastwick, too. Are you sure about Dollhouse, it is one of my favorites and I thought it was just on a long break with all the baseball, etc. It is supposed to be back this month with Summer Glau joining the cast was my understanding. If Fox drops Dollhouse, than the only show that I will be watching on their network is Bones.

I read it on Yahoo last night and Dollhouse was listed. Regarding Eastwick that was one show that my daughter and I watched together. I told her that it was being canceled and she couldn't believe either. I just can't believe that the networks don't give these shows more of a chance. Thanks for responding.

Monk was one of my favorite shows but it was on for a long time and it's shutting down rather than being cancelled. The Cleaner hasd the misfortune of being on a network not known for new cutting edge shows. Regarding other cancelled shows, I still miss Life, The Unusuals, Midnight, and Jericho.

Monk was on the list that was on Yahoo that stated the shows being cancelled. May I ask what the difference is between shutting down and being canceled? Thanks!

Yes Monk was good too. He is so funny with his OCD problems. However, Monk has been on for a long time the other shows just started in September or October. They don't give the shows a chance to find an audience.

I can't understand why these shows can't stay on till next year. Why can't they give them more then two months before they decide to cancel. It doesn't make a bit of sense to me. Thanks for responding.
