What do you do when the person refuse to accept your gift?

Once I've give a gift to a friend, before we have misunderstanding but then I realized that I hurt her in some way and asked forgiveness. But then when I give her the gift she refused it. I felt a bit upset but then I understand her.
Have you experienced being refused to accept your gift? What did you do with the gift?
