MPs and the Royal Family - Britains Biggest Benefit Cheats

Don't get this wrong - I'm not in favour of cheating the system if you're on benefits. It just sickens me to hear MPs going on about benefit cheats while all the time doing everything in their power to ensure they can still milk as much money as possible from the tax payers purse. We all know about them hitting the taxpayer with the bills for their second homes, travelling expenses, lunches, weekly groceries, 52" TV sets, and the rest, and their reaction to being caught is to start whining about how unfair it is that they no longer get these "perks"! (Although they're making pretty sure the new rules still allow for plenty! Must be good to write your own rulebook!) What the royal family costs is another thing that winds me right up! Even the Queen isn't worth what she's paid - we pay for her house, don't we, after all, and on top of that, she wants a few million quid for going out a few times a year and shaking peoples hands! The woman doesn't even know how to brew a cup of tea, for Gods sake! But apart from her, check out the civil list - you're also paying huge wages to her second cousins, aunties, brother in laws, daughters pet blimmin poodle! Most of these people are people we don't even know, getting a tidy wage because they have some very distant connection to her maj! And they do NOTHING to earn it! Am I the only person who thinks these individuals are the biggest benefit theives we have in this country?

Hi Lou, this has missed it's rightful home in pe along with my diatrabes against the royals, biggest council house scroungers in the country. My opinion has always been the same on the german and her poodle philip along with the rest of them, off with their heads. Biggest mistake England ever did was bringing them back after Charles was done away with. I always say if only Oliver Cromwell had had a bit of a sense of humour then the UK could now be a nice republic and saved the expense of those interbred morons.

Certainly not lou. I'd be prepared to learn to knit and cross the water for a front seat at the executions. You are way too soft.

Now the trouble with that idea Tony is there wouldn't be world wide approval, all those across the pond would be complaining it was barbaric, but they've never had to support them. I tell you I knew the UK was done with and lost all its sense when all that fuss was made about one air head getting offed by the Arab when Jeffrey Bernard was the one who should have made the headlines that day, as he actually did something. Well of course I realised before that and have loathed the palace brigade consistently for over 40 years but really. 1789 was a great year, and the world may well have been deprived of Napoloen without it. Why on earth aren't people intelligent enough to realise that the idea of an hereditary figurehead is the most ridiculous concept ever.

Ahh. See, I asked what pe was before, and you mentioned another post all about it, but I couldn't find it! I'll have to go and have another look lol! But...yaaaaayyy! I'm with you. I read somewhere recently that most MPs wouldn't be employable in todays market, they have no usable skills, and the royals are exactly the same, about as much use as a chocolate teapot! Kick them out of the castles and palaces, make them sign on and look for work, and let them live on the streets until a council house becomes available, in about 12 years, for them.

No, you're not the only person - I believe the Taxpayers Alliance has rather a strong opinion on this issue! Personally, I think the monarchy is the greatest waste of space ever. I'd nationalise the monarchy tomorrow and sell off all royal assets to raise funds for more social housing. I'd also give MPs a pay cut and eliminate the whole 'expenses' fiasco altogether. But then - I'm sensible.

Hi, Mjay! Welcome to Mylot! This is making me feel better so far! I'm in total agreement with you - they're pretty worthless, and cost a fortune. With MPs, to be honest, I'd go a step further, I'd force them to give back their second homes, sell them to put back into the treasury, and have them all up on fraud charges. I'm going to have a wee look-see at the Taxpayers Alliance! Cheers for the comment!

Yeah, I had a look, but I don't like looking at things from a single point of view, so had a look aroun for some of the articles, and I kind of thought they had a "convenient" view point on most things! Thanks for the heads up though - yet another thing to get wound up about! Lol! And you're more than welcome! Oh! You're at 104 posts - I'd thought you were newer than that earlier, or else you've just been busy!

I quite agree with your comments. I'd definitely force errant MPs to give back everything they stole from the taxpayer! I'd watch out for the TPA, though; much of the upper echelons of the organisation would gladly sell their aunty for a few bob... It's essentially a right-wing-fest with the usual disdain for any leftist (or publically funded) organisation. Ta for the welcome!

Hi louc, very frustrated huh? Where did you get the information from? or how do you know they are spending taxpayer's monies for their own benefits? Maybe you can think this way, they get their money from other sources of income such as investment, education and many other ways. Be Happy! You are feeling better now which you had expressed your thought on mylot.

Yeah! Football fan club is not a problem though...lol. Well, what can I say now. It is hard to believe that they treated their people in such. I agree with you Louc74, a leader should serve their people instead of the other way round. Another thing is that thea09, I think we have a discussion and comment going on among us as Mylot member. Please don't include Malaysia, come on man. You can code my nick for the next discussion, deal. Have a Nice Day....

Well I have to intervene here as most certainly they get their money from the taxpayers, a proportion of each persons tax is wasted on them. It also goes far beyond the cash they receive directly in that way. Taxpayers fund their protection, keeping necessary police from protecting the citizens (sorry, they aren't citizens - they are subjects). Their travel is financed at massive expense. Maybe you'd like to take them on over in Malaysian and pay for their upkeep. There are many in the UK who are totally aware how much it costs for the royal shower to be supported. If more people made themselves aware of the facts instead of extolling the virtues of this celebrity circus which has inherited their own wealth because it was not taxed in the normal way of other peoples wealth then we could be done with the whole lot of them and ship them off to Malaysia. I will just give you one actual statistic here for you to mull over and it dates back more than 10 years so you'd need to add inflation for the real costing. One family hanger on had her tights (ladies hosiery akin to stockings) paid for at tax payers expense, to the tune of £7000 per annum. Most people at that time were receiving about that in an annual wages.

Just realised, I should have mentioned that although they're advising they put more into the treasury than they take from the civil list payments, this doesn't include the cost of protection, police presence, state visit costs, or travelling expenses - they're all paid over and above their civil list payment, which is purely for their "personal expenses".

bunch of useless scroungers they are. don't mind if they are kept but stop wasting tax payers money on them and get them to do something useful.

i said exactly the same thing before, pay attention - i don't care if they are kept as a tourist attraction (preferably in sound-proofed enclosures) but don't waste money on them.
