Christmas time - what does it mean to you?

For me - Christmas evoles so many fond memories of my childhood. I recall the Christmas days when it was so cold that I could see my breath as it left my body. I remember the smell coming from the oven, with the Turkey being cooked to perfection, ready to be eaten - or perhaps devoured is a better word - by the family. My father sitting by the fireplace ... sometimes even blocking us from getting any heat from it. The usual movies and programmes on TV. The neighbours would knock on the door and come in with gifts, staying for some time to chat and recall times past. "Christmas is not the same anymore" they would say. And they were right. It's not the same now as it was back when they said it either. So, even though I no longer celebrate Christmas - each year brings a gentle reminder of my childhood, and a myriad of tales and stories of wonder, awe and anticipation of those toys left so magically under the tree. After all these years, I still cant figure out how Santa Claus could do it :) What does Christmas mean to you?

I really hate answering this question this way because I've always said Christmas is my favorite holiday. But the truth is, it means having to spend money, or even worse, not being able to spend money. One favorite thing about Christmas is going Christmas shopping. Going to the mall, sesing all the decorations. Shopping around, thinking what should I get for this person, what should I get for that person. Now I'm unemployed, have been since before last Christmas, plus now I have a mortgage. I'm telling you, one reason I hope to find employment this year is so I can go Christmas shopping again next year.

Isnt it a pity that so many people have lost sight of the religious significance, and concentrated so much on the materialistic side of it all? When that happens, everyone feels under so much pressure.

It is a pity that so many have lost sight of why Christmas is, but not being able to shop at all would make a sad Christmas. Many people are in that situation right now. Charity is one of the things I love about Christmas.

This year for Christmas Eve my husband and I will be at his cousin's house. Then at the stroke of midnight we will open one gift each. This is a tradition he has done since he was a little boy. We will snuggle up watching movies all night long. Actually our Christmas festivities start the day after Thanksgiving and continue throughout the holiday season. I bake every Saturday afternoon (cookies, candy, bread and fudge). I also put together gift baskets and make home made gifts. Once I have children of my own I will be able to add reading bed time stories to that list.

:) thats very nice .... and im sure your children will enjoy remembering all the traditions when they get older :) Even though I dont celelbrate Christmas any more, i do feel a little tingle and glow during the season, because of the spirit of joy, happiness and togetherness that so many of my friends feel at this time.

I love Christmas, it is the time when all relatives from all over the world gather and re-unite again for that one special holiday. Usually a huge dinner from dec. 20 until new years. I still can recall the time when i used to believe in Santa Claus. Now i still force myself to believe, and i find it funny. I also love Christmas carols and night stories. Exchanging gifts is the one i always look forward to and snowball fights. Most importantly, i love being with my family during Christmas, talking and eating all night long. Just perfect.

Christmas to me means happiness because during this seasons almost all the people are smiling with happy faces. The feelings of unexplained happiness inside us if we feel the cold breeze of air. Those Christmas carols, lanterns and shopping malls are lot of people passing by. Trying to have their christmas shopping. All of this are the figure or pictures of how Christmas are appreciated by us. But the true meaning of Christmas is the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. This is the belief of all catholics.

they said christmas is just for kids but it depends on how you take it. For me ever since, christmas makes me feel good and i am still trying to figure it out why..maybe it is already in me. so it's christmas time and it's time to share our love and good tidings to the world. have a merry christmas to each one of you...

Christmas is a gathering of sorts, of families, friends who have been apart from us and even those who live near us but we don't get to see as often as we like as we live very busy lives. It's a time for remembering loved ones and showing them how much they mean to us. It's a time for celebrating Christ's birthday, our saviour.

Christmas means many things to me and I love every bit of it. My memories are of a huge tree for a big family, lots of pretty packages (two gifts each for 10 people makes a lot of gifts), the school play (they don't do that any more) where we all got popcorn balls and candy and sang "Silent Night." I love the sights and sounds and smells of it. Christmas colors are my favorites and I play Christmas music from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year's Day and sometimes more than that. Christmas means more opportunities to remember those less fortunate and there is always someone less fortunate, no matter how bad your situation is. It's a time to take time to look at the stars, the snow, the faces, the decorations... and to really see them. I always get a little nostalgic around this time of year. Mom and Daddy are both gone now and the house where we grew up burned to the ground. I can still feel the frozen ground under my feet and the wind biting my nose and how the wood stove felt after coming in from doing the chores of carrying wood and feeding the chickens. Christmas Eve dinner would be waiting, then we were hurried off to bed while Santa did his work. I wish that all kids could have memories like that.

TV changes from something from the Russian tundra to something from the deepest Saharan desert; I am driven crazy by Christmas carol muzak; all the bloody shops are shut; tradition and socialisation mean I have to buy two or three presents I can ill afford for relatives I haven't seen for twelve months or more and mostly don't much like anyway. Bah! Humbug!! Lash

It really means a lot to me especially now that I have my own family. Christmas gives new meaning and significance every year. The celebration may not be the same but the joy and the happiness it brings to my loved ones is more valuable. It is the time where our family bonds a lot and spends time together, where reunions were held and exchange of gifts were observed. I am so excited for the parties!

PRESENTS just playing. Christmas time means a lot to me because it is a great time for family and friends to come together, catch up, exchange gifts, and eat some amazing food! I am Hispanic so i have a HUGE family with LOTS of kids so we just have so much fun spending time together when we can. The children really make the holiday worthwhile when they are open their gifts. They are just so thankful for what they get and thats exactly how it should be. My cousins and i are 20 years and older so all we do is eat and talk talk talk but it is so nice being able to have that little amount of time together and if there are gifts they are always something hilarious! Older family members like Aunts, Uncles, Parents and Grandparents just enjoy having all of us together and cooking amazing food such as Turkey, Cookies, Cakes, Pudding and so on. Watching Christmas movies is personally my favorite because it takes me back to when i was real young! I never actually thought Santa was real so i was not too big on him but other than that i love the family, friends, food and gifts on Christmas!
