I work pt @ a retail store, in a good week I work 15 hrs... normally I work under 10hrs. Either way one of the bosses calls and says since it mandatory for people to work black friday that they wanted to know if I was available. Um... no I'm normally ASLEEP thank you very much! But since we are broke and we have bills to pay and bellies to keep full I volunteered to work & the first shift of that nightmare of a day. Yep, I"ll be there @ 3:30 am til noon.... I don't drink coffee but dam I think I will have to go to to the gas station where I can get a really really big cappicino all sugared, & doused with tons of vanilla creamer to help survive the day. Either way a job is a job and money is money weather or not we like the hours always.

Yes, I have been in your shoes! I did a seasonal job at Macy's last year to earn extra cash. It was CRAZY! Hopefully your day will fly by!

Hi, 3SnuggleBunnies! I have to agree with you that a job is a job, and money is money. Take care of youself, and be careful on this day. I personally try to never go shopping on this day, it is to much headache and sometimes fatal. Take a big mug with you when you go to get your cappuccino, an make sure to save some for when you get to work. Good luck to you.

Sadly I think I'll be dying of thirst from talking so darn much! *LOL* Plus we are not allowed to have drinks other than in the break room or locker... All I can hope is that I even get a break. But knowing my luck I'd fall asleep in the break room. *LOL*

Yeah but money is money. Though my hubby says he doesn't want to hear me complain since I agreed to work it. But it would also be the only day I work that week anyways as hubby works Sat & Thurs everything would be closed. I did work a 10p-2am but I guess they shouldn't of hired me at those hours but hubby worked day shift at the time and I was willing to be up til 2am if I had to, to earn some kind of income but fit in a lil nap so I could mind the kids.

I used to work the overnight shift at KMart when I was younger. I had to work the night of Thanksgiving a few times. I was just getting off work a hour after the craziness began both times. I could not imagine being there the whole day. Good Luck!

I origionally started there as overnight. But they put me on register so I could "get more hours" but between my availability & such I get on a good week 15hrs on a lousy one 4.

Oh, that sounds like a miserable day!! Last year I went shopping on BF for the first time in my life--never again! I just wanted to see how it was, and it was horrible. No place to park, short tempered people dragging crying children around and such heavy traffic! It's a good day to stay home and I wish that you could!

It'll be a fast paced day. All I can do is be thankful for holiday pay from the day before. It won't be much but that will help out alot as well. There are plenty of short tempered people out there.... they just all happen to get cranky @ the same place @ the same time!

What position do you work? Hopefully you are the cashier, I think that's basically the only safe position in a retail store on that day! Everyone else just gets trampled. I went black Friday shopping once, and it was nuts!! I haven't had the money to do it since. Every year we talk about saving for it, but we never do. I've never had to work a black Friday, or if I did it wasn't a retail type job so it didn't matter.

Yep, fraid so. I have never worked a black friday in a store like the one I'm at now. My last retail store was in a mall & on black friday they opened at 7am and I worked @ a sporting goods store so they didn't have squat compared to what I'm going to have for customers to contend with.

3/sbugglebunnies yes now days a job in the hand is worth a dozen you cannot get in the bush. If I were young and working I would do whatever is asked of me and keep my job as the unemployment rate keeps climbing up. lots of people out of work but no jobs for them at all.

exactly and if my hubby's machine isn't running his odds of picking up extra hours can be very slim I will do what I need to, to help out our household. Plus I think I get a lil bit of holiday pay or something for working the day before or the day after as well. So that will help too! You are right too many people without jobs. Sadly my job most people work there as a second job. Just imagine if wages were higher there would be more open positions for those who are working 2 jobs could just work one.

I agree with you. Although I should be retired I work full time and have a part time job during the tourist season. today I am just coming form the part time job and am so tired but we do what we have to do. what else can we do? throw our hands in the air AND GIOVE UP? W are lucky that we have a job to go to. My adopted country is just feeling recession and we have not reached ground zero. with no unemployment benefits for its citizens then God alone knows what is going to happen

Well now, somebody has to do the job. Time will fly with so many shoppers. Just think, you will be able to grab those bargains even before the doors are open. Merry Christmas!!
