A Question For Anyone With Serbian Background

Is there some kind of holiday today in the Serbian Orthodox church, or something? Maybe this week? A Serbian friend of mine mentioned taking a week's vacation, and the Serbian show that plays on a local station on Sunday afternoons is featuring a lot of religious sounding music today. I don't understand a word of the language, so I can't tell what the announcer is saying, I've just always listened to the program, because I've always liked the program. There's something different about today, and I'd love to know what's going on. Can anyone fill me in?

Hey hun, though you know I'm not Serbian, i have looked up some information on this and found this. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Serbia this outlines that tomorrow, November 16th is Kurbanski Bajram otherwise known as Eid al-Adha. if you want i can look up more information on the holiday it's self. This holiday though i know now changes every year, the date of it i mean, as last year it was on November 27th

Oh okay, i just read some info on it. The reason the date changes every year is because they follow the lunar calander. This holiday is celebrated by muslims/serbians alike. This holiday is the festival of sacrifice, following about 70 days after the end of ramadan which is the celebration of the feast. The festival of sacrifice is celebrated in honor of prophet abraham who was willing to sacrifice his son as proof of his loyalty to god. They usually sacrifice a cow or sheep and the meat is shared with family and friends and then others who have nothing. kubanski bajram also marks the end of the Pilgrimage or Hajj to Mecca The celebrations are begun with prayer in the morning and last a few days.
